Let me first say I really do like this product. I love the product because it is organic. I like the product based upon its success in killing the appropriate lawn weeds. What people need to understand is that artificial chemical created weed killers do work quite well. Unfortunately they kill too many organisms bugs and beneficial elements like worms which eat lawn clippings and thatch and turn that into fertilizer. What I really like about this is what it is made from. You can see the entire ingredients list on the Home Depot website.
First thing to know about assembling this unit is you must straighten or stretch out the hose with ball on the bottom of it that goes into the gallon container. As you can see from my images the hoses are coiled up. All you do is simply remove the cap that is on the gallon container, you stretch out the hose that's going to go into the Container. As you can see by the images it's too short at the beginning and is long enough when I'm done straightening it out. Once that is complete simply remove the tab that has deactivated the battery or as I have shown in the image open the compartment at the bottom to expose the battery and remove plastic tab. You are now ready to go. Turn the nozzle on the sprayer to an open position. Squeeze the trigger and the pump starts to work. Once the weed killer starts to come out adjust the nozzle to a thin stream or a wide spray as you see fit.
In terms of efficacy, I really do like the product. The day after I sprayed it most of the weeds started to shrivel. Within twelve days nearly everything I wanted dead was dead. I resprayed those items that needed a second dose. To be honest I probably missed them the first time because they're sisters and brothers of the same variety were indeed dead. This was probably operator error on my part. There were a couple grasses within the that I was spraying that simply never wilted or died. This is the reason for my rating of a four-star. I simply popped those out by hand and completed the job.
I will make sure I have this product in my garage from now on. Love It.

I used my Captain Jack’s Lawnweed Brew for the first time this afternoon. I have a few dandelions in the front yard and with the application of the Captain Jack’s Lawnweed Brew I hope to kill them before they spread. The “Lawnweed brew” provides selective control of weeds like dandelions, clover, chickweed and thistle moss, algae and lichens in lawns.
Captain Jack’s comes in a gallon jug with a battery powered sprayer. After pulling the small plastic tab out of the sprayer handle you could hear the small pump running when pulling the trigger. My sprayer nozzle needed to be adjusted so the spray pattern was a solid circle instead of a hollow ring. It is required to remove the original cap from the gallon jug and insert the cap with suction tube before use. The suction tube is coiled up like spring and hopefully will descend all the way into the gallon jug with time. When you first pull the trigger, it takes a few seconds to prime the small pump.
Once the sprayer is primed, you apply the weed killer on the individual dandelion plants or the area where the other weed types are growing. The spray has a light red color which helps you keep track of the weeds that have been sprayed and the weeds that have been missed. The spray works quickly and dying weeds can be seen in a few hours.
After checking the Captain Jack’s Lawnweed Brew affect after 12 hours I can say that it works well. The weeds I sprayed are wilted and dying. The applicator, after the nozzle adjustment works well. I plan to use the sprayer to kill weeds that pop up on a weekly basis after I mow the yard. I would recommend the product to neighbors or friends.

Did not met my expectations. The directions state that I should see results in a few hours. This didn't happen with the dandelions that I sprayed it on. Since it was a cool day the plant may not have absorbed the solution and I may not have used enough spray on the plants to get the correct results and I may have to do a second application. The battery operated sprayer is easy and convenient to use.

The Captain Jacks Lawnweed Brew in a gallon container has a battery powered wand with batteries included. To replace the batteries, you will need a small Phillips screwdriver too remove the two screws.
I used it to spray weeds in the lawn and flower bed and after 4 hours I could tell that the weeds were wilting. I’m sure that in a few days the weed will be completely dead. I like the fold out sprayer and it worked good not like other wand sprayers I have used in the past. The back of the container has a booklet that you can open and read about the product.

I have been searching for a safe liquid weed killer to use on my N. Fla. St. Augustine grass, and this Bonide product fits the bill. It will kill many types of hard to kill weeds without damaging my grass, including clover and dollar weed which can be a real problem. It kills down to the root using some formula which uses a natural iron based chemical that won't harm grasses and is safe for pets and kids after it is applied. I have even used it on some noxious type grass that has a very thick blade...and it seems to work. Give this a try if you are looking for a convenient sprayer that is easy and safe to use but effective.

The best part of this product is the battery operated spray wand. No more pumping up a garden sprayer. I sprayed all the weeds in my lawn and there was no damage to the grass. I checked the weeds about 4 hours later and could tell that it was starting to kill the weeds. The next day (about 24 hours after spraying) there was more degradation of the weeds. Then I check about 4 days after spraying (away from home for weekend) and the weeds were dying, but not as much as I expected. I might need more of a soaking next time.

This is a fairly new type of weed killer that uses FeHEDTA. It’s considered a low toxicity product so it should be better for the environment.
It is a ready to use product diluted to 1.5%. The other 98.5% are inert ingredients. Supposed to be safer than herbicides.
It worked ok on dandelion and a few other weeds in the yard. Its pretty runny so you have to make sure there is no chance of rain until it can dry. In the Pacific NW this time of year it can take more than a day.
Some weeds looked dead after 24 hours. Other weeds of the same species didn’t appear to die or even wilt.
It is a fairly thin product and I believe it does not contain any surfactants.
For the weeds it did kill they curled up and shriveled to the point I could barely tell there was a weed. That helps the grass grown in quicker.
I would suggest setting the tip of the wand to come out in a mist so the droplets are as small as possible to get full coverage on the weed. Less chance of the liquid rolling off into the lawn.
Because it contains iron it will also kill moss. However if doing a lot of square feet this method could get expensive. I would use a regular moss killer.
The battery powered sprayer works great. Sure saves the trouble of pumping the sprayer. Would be nice if the wand was a few inches longer but it worked fine. I am 6 feet so had to bend when I found a weed to spray. Still very simple and easy to use.

Combining a weed killer and a moss killer in one product is a terrific idea. I needed something to kill the moss and weeds in my lawn. This year’s spring rainfall was above normal, and the moss and weeds are thriving.
This product has a battery powered spray wand, so no pumping or squirting is required – just point and push the button. The wand has an adjustable nozzle tip to change the spray pattern anywhere from wide area to pinpoint. This makes it easy to avoid spraying plants you don’t want to kill. The spray wand is very short (only nine inches long) so tall people (like me) will need to do lots of bending to get the proper coverage.
The manufacturer states the active ingredient is derived from iron, and it will kill many common weeds like dandelion, clover, moss, narrow-leaved plantain, chickweed, and thistle. I don’t know the names of all the weed types – but I did spray a large dandelion type of broad leaf weed and some moss. The day after spraying the dandelion it looked droopy, it looked progressively worse each day, and after five days it almost completely decayed. The moss changed color from green to reddish brown quickly after spraying it. After five days it is a dark brown color and appears to be dead.
This product works as promised and I am satisfied with how it killed my weeds and moss.
