Questions & Answers

There was no leveling pad in the box and the bottom sits a couple of inches above the ground. Am I missing something?

Asked by: Laura
The leveling pad is a thin white styrofoam pad on this model. The bottom is supposed to sit just a couple of inches above the ground -- that's just enough space for a drain to get in there and slope back to your p-trap drain assembly below the level of the subfloor. This styrofoam leveling pad, installed in conjunction with a 2x4 ledger board across the back of the tub at a height of 14 inches (the Bootz Aloha takes a sturdy 2x4, others require a 1x4), helps keeps the top of the tub level from back to front when installed over a level subfloor.

My space is 58.5" from drywall to drywall. The tub width is 60". Is there a way to reduce the size to make it fit?
Asked by: Jeff
Yes. You need to cut away the drywall and TA-DA... you'll have a 60" opening.

IS THIS A 30 OR A 32 IN WIDE TUBE

NEED TO KNOW WHAT HOW WIDE THE TUBE IS
Asked by: MAILMAN
The width (side-to-side) is 60 inches. The DEPTH (front-to-back) is 30 inches. With all due respect to the Bootz reply, the only way that the width of this tub would be 30 inches is if the regular entry or exit was from one of the ends of the tub.

Aloha 5 ft. Right Hand Drain Soaking Tub in Bone is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 98.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Complete garbage. this is the third Bootz tub I've bought against my better judgement for rental properties. Each time there have been major defects despite the box looking perfect. This last one I opened up and examine quickly at the store but of course I couldn't see the bottom corner until I got it to the house and fully unboxed it. I'm absolutely disgusted once again. extremely thin porcelain that is chipped in several very visible places. In one of the photos you can see how extremely thin it is, you can barely feel the scratch but that is bare metal showing which will undoubtedly rust shortly after use. the bottom corner is fully devoid porcelain.

I am the registered home improvement contractor of the outfit, and head up our small work crew. We have quite a bit of experience in bathroom renovation. This is our go-to standard tub for houses and apartment that we are renovating. We typically go with the Bootz Maui when we want a slight size upgrade for a home’s single tub. Usually, it’s the Aloha, and personally, I feel the Aloha is even better made than the Maui. This tub has proven its worth to us. Let me write a bit about steel tubs in general. Steel tubs are stamped out of sheet steel and covered with a thin layer of porcelain, perhaps a third as thick as the porcelain layer on a cast iron tub. Steel tubs weigh much less than cast iron tubs, which start at around 250 pounds for the lightest models. Steel tubs require special care in handling and transport compared with the plastic tubs that they compete against in price. Steel tubs are not as easy to install versus their acrylic and fiberglass competitors. But ultimately, if you know what you’re buying and how to put it in, a porcelain-on-steel tub is a much better value than its competitors. It will outlast cheap acrylic and fiberglass. It will not yellow. It will not fade and become dingy. It will not react to UV light. It will remain easy to clean. It will retain its antimicrobial properties. Perhaps most importantly from my perspective, a steel tub like this will not look like garbage when paired with a well-built ceramic tile surround ten or fifteen years down the line. Chips in the porcelain coating can be repaired easily with enamel repair kits and pens. Large areas of the coating itself are very hard to compromise through regular use. For all these advantages, there are few things you have to be aware of when you buy one of these tubs from a place like The Home Depot versus a specialized plumbing supply place. The stock and supply clerks handle all kinds of tubs. For clerks in a hurry who maybe sell one of these every month, it doesn’t always make sense that steel tubs in a largely anonymous box have to be handled differently from plastic tubs in much the same box. So when you buy one of these, go to the store with a roll of sealing tape in your hand and a box razor in your pocket. Explain ahead of time that you are going to have to inspect the tub completely before you accept it. Cut around the top section to remove the printed oval. Inspect the interior of the tub carefully. Then cut away carefully to check the flanges and the apron. Use the tape to put the box back together again. Do not buy the tub unless you are willing to go through with this step, under the eyes of store clerks who really won’t have patience with you unless you explain to them ahead of time exactly what you’re doing and why. They deal with all kinds of people every day over many different products. They can’t be expected to know why you’re destroying the box of a tub like this if you just go at it with no communication. If you find a flawed tub, check the rest of the stock. Be patient. Do not assign blame. Act like a pro if you are being paid to put this in for someone else. Act like a prepared and informed consumer if you’re buying this for yourself...but if your chosen installer knowingly sent you to Home Depot to pick up one of these tubs and didn’t warn you of these selection and transport realities ahead of time, you should think about finding a different installer. If you know how to insulate and install a tub like this, you already know all this. If you don’t, you should learn before you buy this tub, rather than as you go. There are a lot of great videos on YouTube. There are even better home improvement manuals that you can buy in Home Depot or elsewhere. Bootz makes a variant of these tubs with additional coatings which improve noise and heat insulation and make these easier to transport and install. The Bootzcast and Mauicast tubs are really a great value, and I highly recommend them, especially for DIYers. In closing, this is a great tub. It’s not an optimal DIY product. But if you handle and install it correctly, you’re going to get real value for your money.

It was chipped & bent upon arrival, so I called and asked for a replacement. They don't exchange, so I returned it and was told to call customer service for a discount when I reordered. I did this, the service tech had no clue what I was talking about, but did give me ten percent off and free shipping. Got the new tub, only checked the corners for chips & bends. Bad idea. Due to unforeseen delays, we've had it too long to return. It has a significant chip and bend in the back flange that we are disguising with caulk. Decent tub for the price, but DO NOT get it shipped to you.

Our contractor picked one up randomly and there were no issues with it. he balanced it well and secured it well. after 6 months of good use(5 of us and we're not too heavy- like 110-170 lbs), we haven't had any issues. No tile on the wall has cracked and no big issue with the tub. the ONLY thing is not all the water drains around the tub drain. They should've made it dip in a bit more to drain all the water. So far, no water stains but maybe because we repiped and our water is good? if you have galvanized and your pipes are rusty or the water in your area is bad, it may leave a tear drop ring around your tub drain
