Please help! Are these “weep holes”? They are in both corners. Or were they suppose to be caulked? Also wondering if the surround was suppose to be caulked from the top down to those holes?

The recessed niche can be customized with decorative tile if desired, but adding tile is optional. If you prefer an all-in-one installation without any additional tile work, you can leave the niche in its standard finished configuration.
