Several of the reviews refer to this being the greatest router, which calls into question the validity of the reviews since this is just a router table, correct?
Asked by: Holmes
Sort of... these reviews are also showing up under a combo package they have that includes the router with fixed base, plunge base, and the table. So you may be reading questions / reviews on the page for the table, while someone else sees them on the router’s page it seems.

Customer Reviews

12 Amp 2-1/4 in. Corded Peak Variable Speed Plunge and Fixed Base Router Kit with Hard Case is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 715.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quality Product I just bought the table today and have a few comments. Commpared to the Ryobi Tables this one is far superior. The Feather boards are sterdy and strong. The plastic base looks cheap but is very stiff. My opinion having a large base to mount to a table beats the four point sheetmetal legs. Took me 1hr to assemble and I consider myself to be very mechanial, just a lot of hardware. Router plate is very strong and takes a few minutes to level up. The on off switch is small but in a beter location than the Ryobi. A very clever design. The Brush steel top is very corse and has alot of mass. The fense is made of an anodize extruded aluminum that is far superior to the Ryobi. It comes with a side comparment that stores all the extra hardware and most accesories. I would recommend this for the woodworker that wants something better than the a cheap "good value, good enough" version and the $900 Rockler "Superduper, do it all, digial, I want to be Norm Abram" version.

My last router was just not doing the job I needed it to do and one of my projects on "the list" is a home made router table. So buying a new router became a mission for me. Besides reading tons of reviews, watched many YouTube videos, I also went to the woodworkers group I belong to. I was expecting a wide range of suggestions of which is better, in fact I was expecting suggestions for the very high end ones. Out of about 25 responses, 24 suggested this router and the one who didn't suggested one in the $1000 range, but also said this router was a good router too, a high praise for this guy. When we received our router, I went through the manual, then my wife and I went into the shop and went to work with it, We are working on making furniture that needed precise dados and rabbets. This router did them faultlessly! Can handle both 1/4 and 1/2 bits, comes with a fixed and plunge base and more than enough power to do the job! You looking for a router, look no more, you have found it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong, precise, versatile. Bought the 1617 primarily for a router extension table that I’m making for my table saw. I’ve been using the 1617 some to prepare the extension for its new home and have admired its feel and precision as a handheld configuration as well. The soft start makes for a SAFE start. My old Bosch 1604 only had a toggle switch and though it had less power the torque generated by instant power was unnerving. Looking forward to using larger raised panel bits that an available lower RPM will make possible. I was very impressed with the included proper forged collet wrenches instead of the usual stamped sheet metal one usually gets with power tools. Nice touch. One minor nit to pick is the lack of a dust control shroud in the package. I plan to order the micro-adjustable fence and it does have a DC attachment. Thankfully the router lift I’m installing allows for quick mount and removal because I see now the 1617 will be the goto choice of my router fleet.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from OK for the price. I've had this router table for about a month now, and I would say that it is a decent general purpose router talbel that is adequate for non-critical woodworking. There are a couple of issues with this router table, however. The first is that some of the locking knobs don't tighten down very well, as on the fence and the feather boards. There were a couple of times when routing a board, the fence would move a little bit on me. The feather boards also need constant tightening when running boards through. The other issue I have with this table is that the cast aluminum table top is not perfectly flat. There is a "hump" in the exact middle of the table, which presents a problem in some critical work like cabinet door making. For most other general purpose woodworking, this router table is fine for the price I paid for it. Plus is is very portable.

This is my first router table so take that into consideration with the following. The set up took longer than expected, but was well explained in the directions so I got through it. Beyond that I have only used it on a few small projects but had great results. Like most things, if you take the time to perform a proper set up and run a few test pieces you should see excellent results. The provided dual power ports to start the router and a shop vac (not included) at the same time is awesome! Just make sure your shop vac's power switch is on before you flip the switch on the router table. Yep I was that guy.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great table, but one flaw to nitpick. Setup is straightforward. Leveling the insert plate is the most tedious part, but no different from how any other table would work and you only have to do it once. I was impressed with the quality of both the tabletop and the fence. The fence is perfectly square and very robust and the adjustments it allows make for great stability workability. However: I have one criticism. Its small but critical: The insert rings that go in the center opening are made of thin plastic, and are not perfectly level with the router plate. This means that, when routing smaller pieces, they will dip ever so slightly, when going across it at the bit. If you are doing precision work, you will get a very slight dip in the profile you are routing. For larger pieces, this doesn't happen, as their size carries them across the insert just fine. Using the featherboards pretty much eliminates the problem for smaller work, but you'll want be pretty careful or invest in some after market insert discs. It's a little strange, since the rest of the table is so well thought out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Strong, Reliable, Dependable I used this router for over 8 years. While working in construction as a finish carpenter, I saw and borrowed several different routers. For me, NOTHING compared to this router. There wasn't a job that i did that it couldn't handle. I had multiple jobs that i used it for from simple rounding over the edge to full out raised panels. When it came to flutting, and i did a lot of it, this router is the easiest to hold and manage. After doing several 8ft columns and two mantels with a few custom flutted cased windows and doors, at the end of the day, i was still able to grip it again for those last minute detail work.

Bought this router table with excitement however a only 2-3 months later noticed the router plate was sagged at the center. I was also using their 1617EVS router. The miter slot is NOT really a miter slot in the normal sense and only their featherboards are designed to work. I had a Kreg featherboard that i used on my table saw and tried but it doesnt work. The slot is too wide. Furthermore, whats even worse their non-existent customer servie (Bosch that is). Called them and emailed them. First representative didnt know much and forwarded me to a technical advisor. Well almost 3 weeks later since initial email im still waiting. This being my first customer service request with Bosch well I doubt I will ever buy any of their products. Sad to say I really like some of their products but with no customer service their products are all but useless to me.
