Another professional quality tool from Bosch
Although I have been in the trades for over 40 years, I am a relatively newcomer to grinders of this size and type. I have used various smaller angle cutoff grinders before to cut metals and sand/grind surfaces but this is my first time using this size of grinder. It is beautifully made, as are all Bosch tools I have used in the past. It comes packaged with a vibration dampening side handle and can be mounted on either side and is pitched a few degrees upward off horizontal. I found this placement quite comfortable. The power switch is located on the bottom of the body and is the paddle variety with a safely lock built in that must be depressed before the paddle switch can be depressed - a valuable safety feature. Despite what other reviewers have wrote, I found it easy and comfortable to use - I depressed the RED safety switch with my index finger and operated the paddle. It also has a lock-on button on the rear of the machine that is easy to engage and disengage. The variable speed thumb wheel is located on the rear of the body, operates smoothly and will control the speed from 2800 to 11,500 rpms to enable optimum operating speed for various applications from cutting steel to surface sanding. Four bolts on the front head of the machine and be loosened to allow the head and spindle to be rotated 90 degrees for easier and safer cutting in some instances.
There are several other features that I found useful, although not strictly essential: constant electronics to keep rpms constant even as load is increased or,decreased, acceleration sensor to help mitigate kickback and recoil, spindle lock to make disc changes easier, electronic clutch, soft start, overload protection to prevent overheating, and long life, easily replaceable carbon brushes.
This is basically a bare tool, with the side handle, spanner wrench, and type 27 metal guard included for use for grinding and wire wheel operations included. For sanding, metal cutting, and concrete surfacing and cutting, additional optional accessories are needed and are available.
NO discs of any kind are shipped with this tool but a wide assortment for any application are generally stock at your local Home Depot store.
For anyone who is in need of a high quality grinder, you cannot go wrong choosing this BOSCH unit.
This is a very powerful little grinder. I had some bolts to cut and some welds to smooth out and this did an amazing job. With the hardened bolts I expected this to slow down a little like my previous grinder did but this wasn't even phased by it. I only got it to slow down if I pushed really hard. I also like how for some reason this doesn't seem to try and twist out of your hands. Not sure why it doesn't but I like it. The paddle switch I though was going to be a bit difficult to use with gloves but it actually was very easy to use with thick leather gloves on. The side handle is a bit bare bones. its hollow and unfinished on the inside. I like the shock section built into it but the rest of the handle doesn't feel premium at all. I like the dial on back to set the speed but I wish there was somewhere clearly written on the grinder that told you how many rpm's each number was since many grinding and cutting blades have an rpm max. All in its a great upgrade from what I had before and I like it.
I find the paddle switch to be more cumbersome, yet safer, than other angle grinders I have used. It’s nice that the variable speed feature is combined with a lock-on/off button. I can be more precise with my desired speed thanks to this. It also has technology in it to turn off when it binds-up during a cut.
The power cord is sufficiently long at over 8’, and is heavy duty 16 guage SJ rated.
This angle grinder is pretty bulky and weighs around 6 pounds. I find it less than ergonomic. But, it sure does run smooth.
I would say not for the beginner DIY. Would serve well in a true professional setting!
I really like the variable speed feature on this angle grinder.
One of the things that I really like about this angle grinder is the variable speed feature. In the past I have used dimmers in line with my old electric single speed angle grinder to slow it down. I find that running the angle grinder slower works better for cup grinding wheels on concrete floor and polishing flap disc wheels on exterior painted siding. The paddle switch is different from switches on other angle grinders. I really like the really long power cord. I measured it with my tape measure and it measured 100 inches long. The power cord is heavy duty 16 guage SJ rated. I weighed the angle grinder on my scale and it weighed in at 6 pounds. I tried out the angle grinder on grinding the sharp edges off of some electrical strut and it ran smooth! Overall, this is great angle grinder, and I highly recommend it because of the variable speed feature.
The 13 amp Corded 5 inch Variable Speed Grinder from Bosch is a very nice and durable grinder. Pardon the pictures with the 4" cutting wheel installed, I had just burnt up my last 5 inch and didn't have any more. I would have to say my favorite part of this grinder is the safety guard. It slides on and rotates to lock onto the body, however, you can easily turn the guard with your hand into whichever position you want without having to loosen any screws. To take it off you rotate it back to the zero point and it pops right off. The grinder is variable speed which is always nice. I'm not a big fan of the location of the arbor lock, although this is not enough of an issue to remove stars from the review. The arbor lock is directly on the back which makes it a bit difficult to hold in place while you're trying to change out the disc. If the lock were on the side I think it would be easier to use because you could grip the body and hold down the arbor lock much easier. But that's just personal preference. This grinder is pretty great.
This Bosch Variable Speed Grinder is a solid piece of hardware made in Germany. It has a lot of features, such as variable speed control for detail works, the paddle switch with a safety lock preventing it from a false start, the toolless blade cover adjustable to every angle imaginable, even the power cord is made of a thick rubber (not plastic). Every single feature is right to the point making this tool useful. It is a keeper for sure, an upgrade to anything I ever had.
The Bosch amp corded five inch varaible speed grinder is a heavy duty tool to tackle a lot of jobs. It has a varaible speed from 2800 to 11500 RPM. It comes with a grinding guard and vibration control side handle. It keeps dust away. It is great for metal cutting and masonry. Overall a great tool for professionals and DIY enthusiasts that need a heavy duty for all you restoration needs.
Having a good angle grinder is pretty important for the more advanced diy'er or professional. I have used them primarily for cutting stone/tile. I have had everything from cheap 4 amp corded ones to a monster 15 amp model. This 13 amps Bosch is a good all rounder. It has enough power for pretty much any job while being much smaller and lighter than my 15 amp big boy. It has great cooling so the body doesn't roast your hand while working as well. Another big plus is the lack of vibration when running. It feels very smooth and premium. The speed dial is great for detail work or just matching the proper speed for different abrasives or cut off wheels or wire cups. The guard is tool-less, so on the fly adjustments are easy. My only complaint is that the body of the grinder is on the fat side and makes for a less than confident hold on the tool and tires out my hands faster than a pistol grip style grinder. Definitely a step up from my 4 amp model.

Thisl is a 120 volt corded tool (plug in) withg a wheel diameter is 5 inches that mounts to the 5/8 spline arbor. This is in the class of being a rugged power tool that should work with in any shop. Overall another great tool from Bosch. I used this in conjunction with wire wheels to clean plaster residue from concrete. The variable speed allowed me to find the optimal balance between performance and wire wheel longevity. It seems to have weathered close to 100 hours in an extremely fine dust environment without failure. Recommend using compressed air to keep internal mechanics clean.
