Questions & Answers

Motor Reliability - Is there a known issue with the 15-AMP motor

Of all the table saws I've researched I really like this Bosch 4100 model, however the one issue I've read about is with the reliability of the 15-AMP motor used, which is now the only thing keeping me from buying it. I do understand that with any mass-produced products (cars, tools, etc) there will be some number of quality related issues. So the question is this - Is there a relatively significant number of reported issues with the motor that is used for this table saw, and if so what is Bosch doing to address the issue(s). A response would be helpful and appreciated. The question going unanswered would like lead me to purchase a Delta's product. Regards
Asked by: Ron
I have had my saw for about four years and it has, until yesterday, performed great. Yesterday it began making a noise and the blade would stop as soon as I turned the machine off. There was an odor that smelled like burned bushings and windings. I am very disappointed. I now have a 4100 for sale that needs motor work. Let me know if you are interested.

How does this saw handle hardwoods like maple, walnut, cherry, etc...
Asked by: Jim
Thank you for your question. The 4100-09 Table saw is designed to cut through hard woods. It has a Smart Guard System which riving knife and anti-kickback pawls provide protection when a kickback occurs, while the barrier guard assembly provides a barrier helping to deter blade contact while allowing an unobstructed view of the point the blade meets the work piece. Does this saw come with the digital readout on the fence that is shown in the video or is that an accessory, if so how reliable is it?
Asked by: PMH
Thank you for your question. The 4100-09 does not come with the digital display on the rip fence. The DC010 was the part number, unfortunately, it is no longer available. For further assistance, contact us at 1-877-BOSCH99 (1-877-267-2499) from M-F 7a-7p CST.

Customer Reviews

15 Amp Corded 10 in. Worksite Table Saw with Gravity Rise Wheeled Stand is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 209.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great at first, but... Everything worked great when I purchased it. Solid and accurate out of the box. I have had it for a couple of years now, and the whole thing is falling apart. The steel guide on the fence eventually wears out the aluminum guide at the back of the saw, keeping the fencing from sliding like it should, and not allowing the fence to run true to the blade. The stainless steel rods that the motor rides up and down on wear out the aluminum housing that they are placed in, causing the height adjustment to be unusable, and takes accuracy down to unacceptable levels. The aluminum table has grooves worn into it from cutting lumber on it. I was going to have it fixed, but the cost was so high I decided against it, and when I went to pick it up, it was completely disassembled, the parts thrown in boxes, and they refused to reassemble it without replacing the worn parts. For the money, I was not expecting to buy a disposable product, which is what this is.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Where did the great reviews come from? I’ve been doing trim carpentry for 40 years. I haven’t seen a lower quality portable saw and I own four different brands! The fence lock lever was misaligned from the day I bought the saw, it had to be ground on one side to get the work piece to ride against the rip guide! After several months with constant lubrication, the blade won’t raise up or lower, I am blowing the dust free and lubricating regularly. The wheels and tires are too small to pull over a step without dragging the frame over the steps!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best I've worked with,,,!!! I burned up two Orange ones before I said "NO MORE". Wasn't worth the 50 miles I had to drive for repair of lifetime warranty. Then comes the Bosch and the rest is history. I put a 60 tooth Bosch blade on it and it's been a power house. Has ripped everything I've put through it, and I live in hardwood country. I'll admit that the sawdust port could be more efficient but no portable saw is great in that area. I'm more concerned with the motor performance and consistency. Solid built and easy to transport. Every carpenter should have a good broom for saw dust,, and it makes plenty. I would buy another one tomorrow if this one quit today. etc., etc.,.. This was my first Bosch power tool but it won't be my last. It costs a few more dollars but "it works" and you don't waste time driving back and forth to the "lifetime warranty" fix it store. Highly recommend this saw to anyone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best of the pro-grade portables Bosch Model 4100-09 , portable 10" table saw. Purchased 6/17/2010. This portable table saw exceeded my expectations. I have used it for the last seven years with only a few minor inconveniences, the fence loses its’ parallel occasionally after ripping large numbers of siding panels or twenty or more framing lumber pieces, the dust port sometimes clogs with tiny shards from the above mentioned practices. In every way this tool is exceptional. It came out of the box with the blade true to table top and slots for the miter gauge, still is. I check it each spring, with a Woodpecker Table saw gauge, as I begin to work on our remodeling projects. The saw has been kept in an unheated, uninsulated out building throughout the years. Has been covered with a tarp during some extreme mountain thunder storms, has worked flawlessly. The wheeled base makes moving and setting up simple and effortless. I no longer need too fold it or collapse to store it for the winter. But that feature is a great asset. Before purchasing the Bosch I checked it against all the professional grade portable saws. It was then, and still is, the hands down must have tool. Mike Kuck Bolton Landing NY

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Table Saw: I bought this about 1 year ago and I must say, it is great. Cuts everything easily and very clean with little effort. The stand it sits on is just as amazing as the saw. Rough cuts, fine cuts, every cut has been great. I highly recommend this saw to everyone. It has impressed me from day 1.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Table saw, Just as described, not cheap but excellent for precision work This is my first table saw. I read many reviews before deciding on which one to buy. For a hobbiest it is definitely not a cheap item, however if you need precision work, it's worth all the money. As many have also said in the reviews, you must verify and adjust if necessary all cutting angles. Mine was slightly off on the toe of the blade, and YES it is not that easy to make the adjustments, but once it's done it works perfectly. The folding/telescoping cart, ...the best for ease of portability and storage. I am a hobbiest, but as a retired engineer, I am very annal regarding precision work, this saw did the job. I bought it on the Home Depot CC, they gave me 6 months same as cash, what's better than that deal?? maybe a free one for Xmas... I would highly recommend this saw if you want to do precision cutting. I also suggest using a good blade. I use the Diablo with 100+ teeth, All that I can say is don't hesitate to buy one. Oh yeah there is dust, but come-on guys its a table saw and cuts wood. I use a shop vac attached to it it suck 90% of any dust.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from An overlooked source of problems. Those experiencing motor issues should first check the tightness and quality of their electrical connections at the wall socket and in the circuit from that wall socket to their electrical panel, and the connections in the panel itself. Any connections involving the tightness of a screwed-together connection, the adequateness of the size of wires involved, or connections made with a wire nut are suspect and should be carefully checked. The 15 amp draw of a power saw motor will quickly reveal deficiencies in any electrical connection, and any electrical issues are much more likely to be in an existing shop power circuit or electrical panel than in a brand new, factory-tested motor. I learned this after returning a non-performing saw and getting a new one, which had exactly the same motor issues. I didn't complain about motor quality - I checked my connections. After cleaning and tightening all the connections in the relevant circuits in the panel and between panel and socket, the problems disappeared, and have never returned. Cut off the power to the socket and/or panel before attempting this. Call a qualified electrician if you have never done this type of repair yourself. Electricty can kill you if you make a mistake.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from So far... so good The stand was easy to assemble -- good instructions. The setup instructions for the saw leave something to be desired in my mind. Also... I struggled to get the foam shipping insert out from underneath the saw. However, I stuck to it and got it set up. First cuts on 3/4 plywood were like a hot knife going through butter. Accuracy is pretty good, although I always measure. My first project is a chest of drawers for my granddaughter. So far the cuts are accurate, although I always measure. I've been using the Bosch blade that came with the saw, but intend to upgrade. I'm very impressed with the ease of folding it up and storing against the wall in my space-challenged garage. Portability was #1 on my list of requirements. I did my due diligence and purchase came down to Bosch, DeWalt or Rigid. Home Depot special pricing was the deciding factor along with good reviews on stand/cart.
