Q:Can I use a wrench to change the direction of the relief valve? I just ordered my 2nd 4 gal 3000T (1st rusted out after 4 years). I took it out of the box and found the relief valve faces to the right, but my old one faced to left. Ahh!

Q:Can this unit be supplied be by a container of water or does it require a pipeline?
    by|May 19, 2024
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  JimF, The concern here is water pressure. If you have a pump that is producing pressure from your container, then this will work. Also, you want to insure the unit has water when it is On. So if the container will run dry, you need to know when this happens and are able to shut off the unit until more water is supplied.

Q:I’m building a new log cabin. I will have 2 full bathrooms and a dishwasher. Only 2 people and we will never run the dishwasher while showering. Will this unit cover that load?

      Answer This Question

A:  Tracy, This 4 gal unit is not your best choice for your needs. Please investigate our model ES8 with over 7 gal of water. Even at 7+ gallons, your usage and expectations will need to be mitigated. 1) The dishwasher may not require incoming Hot water (check the dishwasher's manual). Dishwashers have their own heating element but some models still have manuals that state the need to supply Hot water (this is often to meet the energy efficiency tests for the dishwasher). 2) With just over 7 gal of water, your Hot Water shower time will be much less than what you experience with a 50+ gal water heater. The duration will vary depending on the shower's flow rate, the temperature you set on the unit, and the incoming ground water temperature. 3) The model ES8 may take up to 45 min. to heat another new full reservoir of water (your unit settings and incoming ground water temps will dictate the time). This means that your showers may need to be spaced 45 minutes apart. 4) Often times, a log cabin is supplied by well water. Unless the cabin is within about 60 miles of the gulf coast, your ground water from a well is going to be very cold and that will impact how quickly the unit is able to heat a new fresh reservoir.

Q:The temperature dial is marked with MIN, IDEAL and MAX. The temperature range is 65 degrees for MIN and 145 degrees for MAX. Is the temperature dial linear? What is the temperature setting for IDEAL?
        by|May 18, 2024
        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  Lendak, The Ideal set point provides 125 F. It is not a linear progression between the three setting on Min, Ideal, & Max.

This purchase was to replace the same device that died. So that means that I should give the Bosch point-of-use water heater a low grade, but the opposite is true. First: the benefit--hot water at our kitchen sink almost instantaneously--is priceless. Second: we failed to do the annual maintenance that I didn’t even know was required. So yep - it failed. Since I now had a broken machine, I tried following the instructions to clean the anode. It’s do-able, even easy once you practice on a broken machine, but a plumber would have charged us a few hundred to come out and do it. And it’s an annual recommendation. So getting 5-6 years from the original device was a bargain, and now that I’ve practiced on my dead Bosch, let’s see how long I can keep this water heater working! Five stars!

This is my 3rd Bosch 2.5 gal heater. They seem to last between 3-5 years before beginning to leak. I have 2 of them below the sink (kitchen/mstr bath) that provide instant hot water without running the water for almost a minute for the hot to reach these sinks (farthest from the main heater). They are a great convenience. Too bad they don't last longer. But I've gotten pretty good at swapping them out, when they fail. Keep a tray underneath them or the leak can destroy your cabinet. I also have an inexpensive water alarm (battery operated) to let you know if there is a leak.

We purchased this Bosch mini tank in order to have instant hot water at the kitchen sink since our new home with a tankless heater at the opposite far side of the home was taking minutes to deliver hot water. The technical aspects of performing a DIY installation of a mini tank are fairly straightforward. However, locating all of the various fittings and connectors necessary to complete installation was my biggest challenge that caused this project to take weeks. My local hardware and home stores did not have in stock all of the parts that I required. Fortunately, I was able to complete installation in stages without leaving the kitchen sink inoperable each night. Carefully plan your installation and ensure that you have sufficient cabinet space to install the mini tank as well as add an expansion tank (if your closed system does not already have one) to complete the project. Consider how you will need access to the front of the tank to inspect/service the anode annually as well as the possible need to modify or re-route your drain pipe and relocate and/or modify electrical supply circuits to handle the load (if necessary like my job). Make sure that you have all of the right sized supply hoses & connectors on hand before beginning this project. Otherwise, you may be in store for delays and frustrations like I encountered. Most people who purchase this item will likely want to hire a licensed general contractor, plumber or electrician to install since they keep many of the necessary parts on hand in their vehicle.

                  It only works 2 years…
This will be my 3 replacement, due to the water heater leaking and then basically exploding on the inside of the unit. Damaging it beyond repair. Our floor was flooded, because it happened with we weren’t there. 2 -3 years of usage….but has 6 years of warranty on it that won’t help you when it malfunctions. Sad.
