will this drill through ceramic tile?

Asked by: Peter
Hi there! The GT2000 is a glass and tile bit set. This set is designed for glass and natural stone drilling. We recommend a diamond hole saw for hard tile materials like ceramic and porcelain. Here are the diamond holes saw we offer https://www.boschtools.com/us/en/boschtools-ocs/diamond-hole-saws-22533-c/. For further assistance, contact us at 1-877-BOSCH99 (1-877-267-2499) from Mon-Fri 7A-7P CST.

would these bits drill through concrete or stucco?

would these bits drill through concrete or stucco?
Asked by: duckman
Yes. I used them to drill new holes through tile and concrete (70 year old home). They struggled to cut through the tile but the concrete was no problem. Stuco should have the same results. I used a spray bottle of water to keep the bit cooled though. Also...Keep your drill speed at a "medium" or slower speed. Good Luck! Robert

Most Bosch products are "things of beauty", and I have to say these drill bits are no exception. If you examine them closely you can't help but notice their high quality "look" right down to the dark and clear character etching on the shafts. I tested them on probably what is the toughest job - old thin window glass, drilling fairly close to an edge. I used a Bosch hand drill running at 1300 RPM (max recommended RPM is 2000) and backed-up the glass with 3/4" plywood. I can confirm that holding the bit fairly close to perpendicular does in fact easily keep the bit from "walking" when starting the hole, which is quite impressive on a hard flat surface like glass or ceramic tile. A fine white powder is produced during the drilling. By the way, these bits are not intended to be used on any kind of stone, such as marble - drill glass and ceramic tile only. You will also have to be patient and use fairly light pressure. In my test, I did get some concentric fractures on the backside of the glass, kind of like when a bullet passes through window glass. I probably needed a flatter and stiffer backing, as I also cracked the glass during one attempt - see the photo.

Recently moved to a new house, one bath has the typical tub and ceramic tile on three sides. I was thinking of some accessories I could add but that would require drilling into-thru the ceramic tile. So this being new to me I thought I would get this four piece set of bits that are specifically for glass and tile. Having more extra tile than I hope I will ever need, it provided plenty of test pieces. There are four sizes: 1/8"-3/16"-1/4" and 5/16". They are only between 2" and 2 1/4" long. I practiced using a Dewalt 18 volt 1/2" drill. It seems you need the right technique of speed, pressure and even keeping the bit cool or even lubricated. I have been drilling with the tile, lightly clamped, vertically against a 1/2" piece of plywood with mixed results. Having about a 2 ft x 2 ft piece of cement backer-board I will install some tile on it to get a real world feel of what it will be like when I get good enough to tackle the bath. They do work when you use the proper technique, just hope they don't wear out before I get good at it.

I got the drill bits to install a grab bar in the shower, I tried to drill a hole in the ceramic tile and all I got was a small depression in the tile after several minutes I could see that I was getting nowhere. I don't recommend them for ceramic tile

The drill bits did not even last thru one hole, they basically melted. We followed the instructions etc. I was surprised as Bosch is a respectable name in tools.

I am not a professional glass man, but I really enjoy trying different tools and working with new materials. I've done a little glas cutting before but never drilled it. The first thing I did when I got this set of bits was to find a scrap piece of glass and start experimenting. I expected the glass to crack into pieces. Instead, I found that I was able to drill through a piece of 1/8 inch glass without cracking. That was with the 3/16" bit. I also found that the bit was getting a little hot so I used a little glass cutting oil that I got with a glass cutter. I was so pleasantly surprised that I found a piece of ceramic tile to try it there. That was even easier than drilling glass.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very Disappointed in product After drilling only two holes in stained glass project with the 1/8” bit one half of the bit was gone on one side making the bit wobble and cracking the glass. Thought Bosch was better then this.
