    Q:What crimping tool is used

A:  You have a couple of choices. the crimp ring which requires a separate tool for each diameter fitting...i.e. 3/8=1 tool, ½" requires a separate tool, etc. You can also use a good quality cinch ring for each diameter you're using. But you usually only need 1 tool for multiple sizes, thus saving you a bunch of money.

A:  Thanks Kimmy for the question. To install PEX connections, you will require a crimp tool that is compatible with PEX tubing and copper crimp rings. Sometimes the tool may reference F1807 which is the crimp designation for a copper crimp ring connections. Its required to have the crimping tool that is sized to the diameter of the tubing. The Home Depot carries several varieties dependent on your size requirements. Hope this helps. A:  I used the iwiss pex cinch clamping tool for 3/8 to 1 inch clamps, available at amazon. It is much easier to use then the pex compression tool since it has ratcheting action. Also it is only 12 inches in length so it is easier to use in tight places. The pex compression tool sold at home depot does not work on 3/8 rings and it is very big so you could not get it into a tight place. I also bought the sharkbute 3/8 compression clamps from home depot.

Ordered Qty 2 packs of 5. Home Depot only shipped 2 valves not 10. Unfortunately I was ordering these for a future project. What a surprise to open the box and only find 2 valves when I went to do this project. Now I'm told I didn't report this within 48hrs so I'm out of luck. $65/valve!!!!

My house has pex piping. All my sinks and toilets have a direct run with no shut off device at the appliance itself. I don't know if this is allowed by code but if you ever had a leak it would take you a while to run to the garage and find the main box to shut of the water. Needless to say I had a leak in my toilet and thought while I fixed that I might as well install a shut of valve. Only problem was the pipes running to the toilet are 3/8 pex line. This is the only place you will find an angle valve with the 3/8 barb on it. This may be the reason my toilets and sinks don't have shut off valves. Needless to say I purchased this and it worked great. It was my first time working with PEX so I went with the shark bite 3/8 crimp ring not the compression ring. I bought the crimp tool on Amazon. The crimp tool is much easier to apply and easier to use in tight places. The compression tool sold at home depot does not work on 3/8 ring only 1/2 inch an up. This valve worked great and since I had a five pack I went ahead and installed the shut off valve on all my other toilets and sinks. PEX plumbing is very easy to work with as long as you have the crimp tool. Each valve took maybe five minutes to install. Highly recommend you keep a crimp tool handy if you have PEX plumbing in your house, never know when you will need it.
