Product Overview

BrassCraft’s ProCoat stainless steel gas connector is engineered with added safety in mind. The proprietary polymer coating is designed to withstand prolonged exposure to harsh household chemicals, UV rays and salt. ProCoat is applied to the corrugated stainless steel connector using advanced powder-coat technology. Unlike conventional dipped or sprayed coatings, the ProCoat coating is baked directly onto the connector surface at high temperatures to provide a uniform coating over the entire length of the connector. The coating is applied only after the connector has been 100% leak tested, prior to nut and fitting assembly. This process results in the most complete corrosion resistance available.

Should we use pipe dope on the fittings?

Asked by JayDiddy December 21, 2019

Answers

JayDiddy - This is a good question, we only recommend using pipe dope on fittings that are not flared. Flared ends which are a tapered fitting, must make a metal to metal seal. As per the instructions attached to the gas connector, clean all pipe threads with a wire brush and rag to ensure connections are free of any debris such as metal shavings, rust, dirt, oil or water. Apply pipe thread sealant to the male pipe threads of connection. DO NOT apply sealant or tape to flare ends of fittings or shut-off valve. Sealant and tape will prevent this connection from sealing properly. If necessary, thread new manual shut-off valve onto gas supply pipe, wrench tighten. Thread steel fitting to manual shut-off valve and other steel fitting onto appliance regulator. Thread flare nuts of gas connector onto shut-off valve and steel fitting. Wrench tighten all connections. If you need additional support, please contact one of our Customer Service Representatives at 877-272-7755.

Answer

Hi JL - Thank you for your question. The temperature rating for this gas connector is: -40°F to 150°F. Depending on your application, in a residential connection, our gas connector's are for installation on the outside of the appliance and meet all certifications within the noted temperature range. Generally, these gas connectors are not intended for use with commercial appliances. Those connectors are typically certified to ANSI Z21.69 / CSA 6.16. BrassCraft Gas Appliance Connectors are certified to ANSI Z21.24 / CSA 6.10 and ANSI Z21.75 / CSA 6.27 which limit the application to appliances without casters. You would need to verify that your local codes allow use of this connector in this setting. In addition, you would need to ensure that the application meets all of our application specifications and is not being used on an appliance with rollers or casters. Please contact our Customer Support Team at 877-272-7755 if you need further assistance.

Can this material be used in the attic if moving a water heater and dryer to another location?

Asked by Victor April 28, 2018

Answer

Hello Victor-This is a good question, if you are relocating your water heater and dryer, it would be recommended to extend your hard pipe gas line to that distance you are moving the items to. Our product then would be used to connect the gas shut off to the appliance. We do not recommend that our gas connectors are ran through walls, floors, appliance panels or partitions. Please contact our Customer Support Team at 877-272-7755 if you have any other questions.

Answer

Hello Thomas - That is a great question. We cannot tell you if gas connectors will work on specific makes and models as each appliance manufacturer has different standards. We can however guide you through the process of choosing the right gas connector for your application. In your gas range owners manual there should be a section that tells you each burners rating, add up the gas rating each burner puts out to get a total BTU rating. Once you have your total added up, look on the back of the BrassCraft connector package for the proper length to BTU rating. If you have any questions or have any other feedback, please contact our Customer Support Team at 877-272-7755.

can you join two gas flex lines together with a nipple

Asked by BED1013 July 9, 2015

Answer

Thank you BED1013 for your question. Gas connector installations are regulated by National, state and local plumbing codes. Gas Connectors are available in lengths up to 6 feet per these codes. If your appliance is not within 6 ft. of your gas line connection, per the plumbing code requirements, you will have to modify your gas distribution system. Connecting two gas connectors with a close nipple is against plumbing codes and not recommended. Should you have further questions on the installation of our gas connectors please do not hesitate to call one of our Product Experts toll-free at 877-272-7755.

Are 1/2 in MIP connectors removeable?

Asked by bob April 13, 2015
2
Answers

Thank you Bobb for your question. If you are asking if you can replace one end of this new connector with a 1/2 in. FIP x 5/8 in. OD Flare (15/16-16 Threads) gas fitting, the answer is yes. As long as you replace the 1/2 in. MIP fitting with a fitting with the 15/16-16 flare thread, a thread configuration specifically designed for gas installations, you can do so. If you are asking if you are able uninstall an existing gas connector to alter the fitting, we would recommend that you not re-install the connector once you've made the disconnection. Flexible gas connectors are intended for original installation only. When you disconnect the gas connector nuts or fittings, you may have damaged the threads making the connector unsafe for use. We recommend that you replace the connector and end-fittings in that instance. We hope that answers your question. If you have any additional questions about the product or installation, please feel free to contact one of our product experts toll-free at 877-272-7755. Thank you again,

Response from BrassCraft MfgAugust 4, 2020
Hello PMD - Thank you for your review and giving us a rating. Your local Home Depot Store Associate should be able to special order a 12" gas connector, like our CSSC11-12. The 12" line is the shortest that we make. A gas connector should be at least 2-3" longer than the distance between the appliance and gas supply. Provided that the gas connector you are using is properly sized for the BTU flow capacity of the appliance you are connecting to.  You should select a connector with a capacity equal to or greater than the appliance input rate.  If you are choosing a gas connector for your range, you should add the BTU flow capacity off all burners and oven for a total BTU flow capacity. You should always ensure that use of this connector meets all Brasscraft application specifications. If you have any other questions, please contact our Customer Support Team at 877-272-7755 for assistance.
