Having rather rough walls in a 141 year old house,...
Having rather rough walls in a 141 year old house, lining paper was necessary to soften the uneveness of the walls. The paper was easy to hang even over lining paper, no additional paste was needed. It took paint just fine and I was able to paint it a medium blue with only one coat. I did not have the trouble of the paper ripping easily as I did not over soak it, it performed as expected.
