How many days can this run for? We lost power in florida due to hurricane for a few weeks.

Asked by ZeVa June 25, 2020

Answer

This standby generator should be able to be run the whole length of an outage when being used as the backup power source in an emergency situation, providing you follow the maintenance schedule. For this unit that would mean you will want to check the engine oil level every 8 hours of use (or daily) and add additional oil as necessary. After 100 hours of use (or annually) you will want to replace the spark plug, check the valve clearances and circuit breaker torques, change the oil, and replace the oil filter and air filter.

what size transfer switch do i need with a 12 kw

Answer

That is going to depend largely on the current wiring setup of your home. We recommend working with a local Briggs & Stratton standby generator service dealer or a local electrician to help you determine what would be the best fit for your specific situation. You can find a dealer locator on the Briggs & Stratton website.

I bought this generator thinking in a Symphony II smart system but for my surprise I only find a 16 circuit transfer??

Response from Briggs & StrattonJun 13, 2019
I'm sorry about the confusion on this unit. This generator would come with a 100 Amp 16 circuit ACCM 071047 transfer switch. To get a unit that includes the symphony II we can contact a Briggs and Stratton standby dealer.

Just installed, first week of Dec. 2018. Paid an electrician and plumber. Nail biter for me but a piece of cake for them. The 18" distance from the house saved me over $500 in trench digging and underground fittings. Everything was run above ground and neat. Test run went well, as did first weekly autonomous run. Suggestion: buy the WHOLE HOUSE transfer switch, not the 16 circuit and save some $ on the install. This generator can run 3 small homes! No need for 16 circuits unless your house is HUGE.
