Questions & Answers

How much oil does it take to fill the first time before use?

None
Asked by: Ernesto
I bought one, and it leaks oil out of the box. The two year warranty costs $80 just for the service people to look at it. No wonder only one in almost 100 miles exists. They told me it was questionable, even though I never used the generator that it would be covered under the warranty because of arbitrary Briggs and Stratton passed decisions. I was shocked, no pun intended. So, I can't run an alarm clock!

Electric start would make it a better value. Going to be hard to pull when it's 0 degrees outside I suspect. Use is off grid cabin. Will soon get a battery bank to run lights from.

I purchased this generator in early January 2018 (2 months ago) to supply power to my 2200 sq ft house during power outages. I chose this model because I have always gotten good service out of my Briggs engines (almost exclusively lawn mower and lawn tractor applications). Additionally the specs and reviews were comparable to the Japanese competitors, who were over twice the price. When I received the Q6500, I was not disappointed. I was surprised how quiet it was. At 50-75% load, it was not objectionable inside the house. It powered the lights, refrigerator, several TVs and internet at under 50% load. If I minimized that load, it powered my 4500 watt water heater at under 75% load. It's all I need for the next ice storm. BTW, I connected the generator through a Generlink transfer switch, also purchased from Home Depot. This switch was installed by my power company at no cost. It also works very well and makes safely connecting a portable generator is to your electrical system a breeze.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Generator In most countries, movil generators are used for emergencies or camp days. In my country, Venezuela, the supply is irregular. We were more than 1 week without electricity and this generator, allowed to energize, 1 refrigerator, 2 freezers, 10 LED bulbs, and the water pump.,among other things It is large and heavy, but with the handle and wheels system, it is versatile. The noise level at maximum power is acceptable and when the reduction button is placed, it reduces a lot. I highly recommend it [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I got conned into buying a BS generator when my 20 year old Mitsubishi stopped working during a power outage. I figured it was about time, so I ordered the Q6500 BS generator. While I was waiting, I took a look at my broken one. I pulled off the valve cover, and the rocker arm nut fell off. So I adjusted the valves, and started it up, ran great! So I figured I had a back up. I get the Q6500, and no more power outages, so I put the oil in it started it up, and was impressed with the quietness of it. I put it under the shelf, and about a month later, I moved it to another spot in the garage. It had oil under it. I took a pic of the stain after cleaning it up. Thinking it was probably some I may have spilled when filling, as it had a plastic case around it, I waited a few days, but it still leaked in the new spot. I took it to the local dealer, and they were not happy to see it, and told me it would be $80 to look at it. I said it has a warranty. They said we have to determine if it qualifies. I said, how can it not, its never been used, and I just got it. It's leaking out and there is no damage visible, and there is no evidence that it has been used. They said, Briggs and Stratton is hard to work with and they often deny claims that they thought should have qualified. My heart sunk, I just dumped a thousand dollars into a piece of junk that I really didn't need. I think the leak can be fixed, but ever buying a Briggs and Stratton toilet brush would be far and few between. These guys are creepy to talk to on the phone! Total rotten attitudes.

I loved the deal of the day! I especially like the transfer switch, it saved from having to get one from the electric company. Easy to move around with wheels. Had for 2 weeks, haven't had a storm and not ran it for a long time but looking forward to having whole house ran off of this generator.

Even if it arrived intact I still would have returned it because it simply is TOO LOUD! To its credit its way cheaper than the Honda, but in the end what mattered to me most was quality and noise efficiency, so I bought the more expensive Honda
