Does generator have a 30amp RV plug in and what is largest AC it can power?

Asked by: Mike
I find the answers to this question, especially the one from B&S, to be very misleading. This generator is designed as a home emergency back up generator and not specifically for the RV market. It has a running power rating of 5000 watts and supports short duration surges up to 6500 watts. 5000 watts corresponds to 20.8 amps when used on a 240 volt load, like a well pump. When powering 120 volt loads, it provides two separate 120 volt circuits that can support up to 2500 watts and 20.8 amps each. These cannot be combined to support a single 120 volt load greater than 20.8 amps or 2500 watts. Since RVs tend to be 120 volt only, the most you'll be able to use is 2500 watts, even if you use a 30 amp RV connector (using an adapter to connect to the generators L1430 plug). Some generators intended for use with RVs have an output voltage switch that will combine the two 120 volt into a single higher capacity circuit available through the 30 amp RV connector. This unit doesn't have that feature.

Q6500 QuietPower Series 6,500-Watt Gasoline Powered Portable Inverter Generator with Briggs and Stratton Engine is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 129.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Q6500 I bought this on September 9, 2018 in preparation for hurricane Florence. Luckily my area did not experience any power outages. As I want to ensure the unit was working properly I want to head and set everything up per the instructions and connected my refrigerator to it. Unfortunately this generator was not able to power my refrigerator correctly and kept popping the GCF I plug on the generator every 10 minutes. My refrigerator is a new were Samsung model operating at 115 V at 5.3 A. Now I did have it connected through an extension cord that was rated at a 10 gauge 20 A max voltage of 1800 V. According to the manual for the generator they should be more than enough to power the refrigerator but in real world it did not very very very disappointing. The odd thing was it was able to power a portable AC unit with no problem. I believe the issue is with the GCF I plugs that comes standard on the generator most research indicates that refrigerator should never be plugged into a GC if I plug why Briggs and Stratton would require these plugs on the generator I have no idea. I would not recommend this generator to anyone that I know.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very portable and quite. Does the job After much research, I decided to purchase an Inverter gene... Very portable and quite. Does the job After much research, I decided to purchase an Inverter generator mostly because of its compact size and less weight. I choose the B&S Q65 Quiet Power because of the many good reviews, the many years I’ve had lawn mowers with B&S long lasting engines, and especially because of the Quite Power button. I’m so glad someone in the industry has recognized the need to make lawn tools and equipment quiter. I’ll never understand how a 400 HP automobile can run whisper quite while a lawn mower or weedwhacker can be heard several blocks away. But back to the Inverter. I only had a little trouble getting it started the first time. Following the instructions, I pulled out the choke, turned the switch and pulled the crank. Nothing for many tries. Finally, letting it sit for a while, I called a nephew who has the same inverter. He said just pull out the choke once and push it back in. Then try starting it. Well this worked like a charm. He explained to me that leaving the choke out may flood the engine not allowing it to start. So now, when I start it I pull out the choke once or twice and push it back in prior to pulling the crank handle. This method has worked every time. I would suggest to for future models to install a steel loop or something welded to the frame where I could pass through or connect a chain or steel cable in order to prevent theft (or at least make it a little more difficult to steal). It’s only been a week since I’ve purchased the Inverter but so far, I’m very happy with it. I’ve simulated power outages and have powered 90% of the house (980 S.F. house) including all room lights, basement lights, sump pump, refrigerator, TV and microwave. I will update this review after my next power outage.

I purchased this generator in early January 2018 (2 months ago) to supply power to my 2200 sq ft house during power outages. I chose this model because I have always gotten good service out of my Briggs engines (almost exclusively lawn mower and lawn tractor applications). Additionally the specs and reviews were comparable to the Japanese competitors, who were over twice the price. When I received the Q6500, I was not disappointed. I was surprised how quiet it was. At 50-75% load, it was not objectionable inside the house. It powered the lights, refrigerator, several TVs and internet at under 50% load. If I minimized that load, it powered my 4500 watt water heater at under 75% load. It's all I need for the next ice storm. BTW, I connected the generator through a Generlink transfer switch, also purchased from Home Depot. This switch was installed by my power company at no cost. It also works very well and makes safely connecting a portable generator is to your electrical system a breeze.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Whole house emergency power Bought this July 2018 after a recent power outage. Hooked up to the house, using generator interlock, 240 outlet in garage, utility power return alert and wattage/voltage/amperage meters. It will handle, water well, refrigerator, microwave, lights, furnace and powers computer, TV and recharges devices. It handles all our needs for a long term electrical power outage. So far, we are very happy with the results. Unit is quiet when compared to similar engine powered products, like lawnmower, power washer, log splitter etc..... we should be able to keep it running and let the kids go to sleep at night.

Can't say too much more about the Q6500 - perfect for my needs. one thing I might add is I built a rain cap for use outdoors in bad weather. fairly easy to build from 3/4 " PVC pipe, some PVC tees and elbows, plywood, a utility tub, miscellaneous hardware, and rubber straps. the overall size of the PVC frame is 19-5/8" x 29-1/4". the plywood base is 22-3/4 x 29-1/4". depending how fancy you make, and what supplies you have, costs would be around $50. when the thing is broken down, everything fits nicely in the utility tub for easy storage.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not impressed Not impressed with this generator. Tried to use it and we could never get it to run correctly. Sounded as if it were fixing to blow up at any moment. We plugged a fan into it and it wouldn’t even run the fan. Guess we got a bad one. After waiting for it to be shipped to the store we decided to have a refund instead of trying another one. Had a Honda generator and will prob go back to a Honda.
