How much oil does it take to fill the first time before use?

Asked by: Ernesto
1qt. SAE30 fixed weight non-synthetic comes with it. Use it for the break-in unless you are in frigid cold then switch to synthetic on your first oil change.

Does generator have a 30amp RV plug in and what is largest AC it can power?

Asked by: Mike
I find the answers to this question, especially the one from B&S, to be very misleading. This generator is designed as a home emergency back up generator and not specifically for the RV market. It has a running power rating of 5000 watts and supports short duration surges up to 6500 watts. 5000 watts corresponds to 20.8 amps when used on a 240 volt load, like a well pump. When powering 120 volt loads, it provides two separate 120 volt circuits that can support up to 2500 watts and 20.8 amps each. These cannot be combined to support a single 120 volt load greater than 20.8 amps or 2500 watts. Since RVs tend to be 120 volt only, the most you'll be able to use is 2500 watts, even if you use a 30 amp RV connector (using an adapter to connect to the generators L1430 plug). Some generators intended for use with RVs have an output voltage switch that will combine the two 120 volt into a single higher capacity circuit available through the 30 amp RV connector. This unit doesn't have that feature.

I had a difficult time finding a phone number for B&S that you can speak to a human on (go ahead and give it a try). Once I got a human on the phone I explained the wheel was broken. He said they would mail me a new one. Great I thought... well 10 minutes later they called me back and said it was on backorder. Its been well over a month and still no wheel. Its real fun dragging this 100+ pound thing around without one wheel. Hey B&S how about grabbing a wheel off the factory floor and shipping it to me? I managed to shim the side without a wheel to test the machine. It would barley run my 1hp well pump without bogging down. I had my house lights on and a cell phone charging. When the well pump turned on the lights dimmed for a second or two and once they came back to full brightness I heard my cell phone beep like I just plugged it into the wall to charge. So Im guessing thats its limit a 1hp well pump. I ran it testing different circuits in the house for 5 hours. Then changed the oil per the manual. Well a few days later I found a small puddle of oil and a drip coming from the oil pan plug. So I tightened it and wiped it down. Well a few days later theres a bigger puddle of oil and the plugs wet again. Please note this is not my first time changing oil on an engine. Not sure why its leaking but paying $1000+ you think it wouldn't make a mess where you park it. Add a better gasket or add a foot pound torque required for the oil plug in your manual. While it was running I noticed one of the plastic panels rattling. Upon further inspection I found the panel incorrectly installed from the factory. The panel was not sitting in the track and instead it was tucked under the lip it should sit on. I was able to unscrew the panel and correct it but the chinaman installing it should have noticed this or at least quality control. This left a small cosmetic gouge in the panel. I had a pamphlet that came with the generator that offers a fuel stabilizer or a $10 gift card for registering the product. Well I registered it online at the website and nowhere did it mention any $10 gift card or Fuel stabilizer. So I just gave some company a bunch of personal information voluntarily in hopes for $10. Just a warning to readers no $10 gift certificate and probably spam mail for years. I guess I'll have to hunt for that phone number again and ask customer no service where my wheel, $10 gift card is and why the thing is leaking oil. Im not a satisfied customer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Dealer Service and Great Generator It was two days before Christmas and we were hit with a gale force windstorm on Salt Spring Island, Canada. After reviewing potential generators I decided on the Q6500 for two reasons; price and quietness (The Q6500 is only 6db more than a Honda of the same size and HALF the price!) Our dealer here on Salt Spring went way out of his way the day before Christmas and organized for my son to pick it up before taking the ferry. I love the generator, lots of bells and whistles make it very easy to use (specially like the plug lights...very handy in the dark!) We ran a fridge and two freezers and plenty of light. It just kept purring away. I am very happy with this unit. I am already recommending it to friends. I found out that a neighbor of mine has the same one and was running his fridge, freezer and hot water heater off of his!

I’m reserving the fifth star until I see how it performs in the long term and during a real emergency. One complaint is the bad design of the side cover panel which feels very flimsy and fits poorly where it belongs.

My location was hit with a devastating CAT 5 Typhoon Oct 25th and we needed power so I ordered the Q6500. I am more than extremely satisfied with this generator. A typical days use is about 6-8 hours in the evenings running my fridge, several fans, three table lamps, my 65" TV, Home Theater system, and charging phones, and other rechargeable battery devices. With all that running, I go thru less than a half tank of gas with in QPT operation. Decided to flex it running it in QPT one day adding the use of a microwave, toaster oven, and my vacuum. I ran it from 9am to 1am the next day and after 16 hours of continuous use, I still had 1/4 tank of gas remaining... NOT DISAPPOINTED AT ALL!

When i got it all unboxed, i noticed that the plastic case was broken. There was no visible damage to the box, and this will not hinder the running of the it, but that is the reason I only gave 3 stars. I got it all set up and ran it for about 20 min, my neighbor couldn't believe it was a generator, and that it ran so quiet for it size. I really have not really used it in an emergency yet so I really can't comment on that part of it.

Not a fan of the design of the back cover where you access the oil, or the rubber outlet covers. They do not seal. Good concept bad application wish the covers worked.
