Questions & Answers

How much oil does it take to fill the first time before use?

None
Asked by: Ernesto
I bought one, and it leaks oil out of the box. The two year warranty costs $80 just for the service people to look at it. No wonder only one in almost 100 miles exists. They told me it was questionable, even though I never used the generator that it would be covered under the warranty because of arbitrary Briggs and Stratton passed decisions. I was shocked, no pun intended. So, I can't run an alarm clock!

When it comes to inverter generators that do 240 volts, good luck finding one. That is a feature I needed since I'm on well water and the pump is 240v. What is the point of a generator if you can't even run the water? Well, even though my choices were severely limited, I'm happy with this nonetheless and would consider it even if I was just looking for any old 5k inverter generator. I had one of those Champion models that the big box stores were selling with 7500 continuous watts. That should have been enough to run my AC but it wasn't even close due to start up requirements for the compressor. That and it was super noisy and the power wasn't "clean" like it is with an inverter generator. You might find this is your only option if you must have 240V but you won't be disappointed and you won't feel like you were forced into a narrow set of choices. Buy it and don't look back.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worthless, never works when needed I purchased this 7 months ago, it started right up when I bought it. So I put fuel stabilizer and ran it for about 15 min to ensure the stabilizer got into the carberator. Went to use it when PG&E said they were shutting the power off and it wouldn't start. I tried everything: choke, no choke, pulled on it for about an hour. Pulled the side panel made sure it was getting fuel, check spark plug incase it flooded but plug was clean. Drained the carburator bowl and made sure the main jet was clean. Still won't start. Talk about money wasted. Now I can go pay someone to get it running or cut my losses and throw it in the trash. Don't buy this if you want reliable emergency power.

Good luck finding parts, a little over a year after purchase I go to remove the generator from storage to get ready for hurricane season to find that it would not start, removed the panel to find that the carb bowl had fallen off. The bolt holding the carb bowl had broken! Never touched by me but apparently it was torqued to tight. Not a huge deal I'll get a new bolt. NOPE! my $1,400 generator is a brick because Nobody can get the bolt, or a new carb, or a rebuild kit...nothing the engine and carb part numbers do not exist on any website anywhere that I can find. After one season I have a very expensive paperweight because I can't replace a $5 part...

I purchased this generator in early January 2018 (2 months ago) to supply power to my 2200 sq ft house during power outages. I chose this model because I have always gotten good service out of my Briggs engines (almost exclusively lawn mower and lawn tractor applications). Additionally the specs and reviews were comparable to the Japanese competitors, who were over twice the price. When I received the Q6500, I was not disappointed. I was surprised how quiet it was. At 50-75% load, it was not objectionable inside the house. It powered the lights, refrigerator, several TVs and internet at under 50% load. If I minimized that load, it powered my 4500 watt water heater at under 75% load. It's all I need for the next ice storm. BTW, I connected the generator through a Generlink transfer switch, also purchased from Home Depot. This switch was installed by my power company at no cost. It also works very well and makes safely connecting a portable generator is to your electrical system a breeze.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Generator In most countries, movil generators are used for emergencies or camp days. In my country, Venezuela, the supply is irregular. We were more than 1 week without electricity and this generator, allowed to energize, 1 refrigerator, 2 freezers, 10 LED bulbs, and the water pump.,among other things It is large and heavy, but with the handle and wheels system, it is versatile. The noise level at maximum power is acceptable and when the reduction button is placed, it reduces a lot. I highly recommend it [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Generator was nicely packaged with a quick start insert to get the generator started soon after unboxing. Included were engine oil and a long-spout funnel to fill the sump. Though it took a few pulls on the start cord, the generator started and stayed on, as expected. During a test run, I loaded the generator enough to see the 50% load light, and then tested the Quiet Run feature. The already tolerable noise reduced even further making the generator comfortable to be around.

I must have misread something because when i hooked it up to my 30 amp trailer it kept bogging down. It was too much of a load for it. I'm sorry but i would not recommend this for camping.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just as advertised Unit is fairly quiet and definitely does not use a lot of fuel, doesn't have enough amperage to start our hvac condensor units but does run all other electrical items on the property except the dryer and hot water heater. overall very satisfied.
