      Can the combination dials be rotated with the shackle in the OPEN position? This is important because you can them open the lock, but clear the combination immediately while hanging it temporarily.

      Thank you for your question. Yes, the dials on the Brinks 2-1/4 in. (50 mm) Solid Brass 4-Dial Resettable Combination Padlock can be rotated while the shackle is in the open position. However, rotating the dials will not change the combination. This model requires the included change key to reset the combination. We hope this information is helpful.

        Commercial grade keyless Brinks brass and steel padlocks with long shackles.
        Nice heavy Brinks brass and steel padlocks with long shackles. They are weather resistant so can be used outdoors. They came as a two pack. They have a 4 digit combination that is resettable using the included change key = no keys to lose. Shackle has a 2 1/4" depth and is hardened steel to resist sawing and bolt cutters. I will be using these to lock my overhead garage doors and to lock the wheels to the frame of my E bike.

        High-quality, easy to use and extremely durable locks are for more than theft-prevention
        These are superb padlocks! I use them mostly for keeping our things from blowing away: I have a chain around my outdoor smoker, my grill, and clipped around our outdoor chairs. The dials are easy to read, and the process to set my own 4-digit combination is simple. Each lock in the 3-lock set has its own reset key, but the same key fits all locks. That gives me a chance to label the keys and put them in a few places. Note that the key is only for resetting the combo: it cannot open the lock. Not e that the lock only resets when the correct combination is entered, the lock is open, and the key is turned. The key won’t even go in when the lock is clasped. The brass construction of the lock body is weather-resistant, with the chrome-plated hardened-steel shank also very weather-resistant.

        Nothing makes these padlock stand out
        I needed new padlock for my shed and these locks looked decent. The build quality on the padlocks seems good. Only time will tell if they can handle being outdoors all year long. Programming a new combination into the padlocks with the supplied key, is straightforward and I had it done in a minute or two. The padlock is easy to open and operate, you set the combination and push down on the shackle to open. To lock, you change the combination to something else and close the shackle. Locking and unlocking were smooth. Now the problem, when I first opened the package the wheels were stiff and did not easily turn. I was disappointed with that. I used some dry lock lube on the wheels and in through the combination key change opening, and was able to get the wheels moving well enough. Without applying lock lubricate, these padlocks would be barely functional. Another issue is that the combination wheels are a little small. I have other locks, with similar shackle sizes and the combination wheels are noticeably larger. I should not have to use a lubricant to a brand new padlock to get it working well and a padlock of this size, should have larger wheels. You can see in the photos that there is ample room for a larger set of wheels. Lastly, make sure you do not lose the combination setting key, or you will not be able to ever change the combination again. I am not disappointed with the padlocks, but I would list them as simply average.

        A lock worthy of the name!
        I obtained this lock to secure the hitch on my boat trailer. Unfortunately, the shackle was too thick to fit in the pre-existing hole on the hitch. I then figured I would use it to replace a very old lock on my bike chain. *** WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THIS LOCK: This is a commercial- grade security lock, it advertises that it is 8,000 pound cut resistant and it is weather resistant---it would be difficult to cut this lock off, and if I get the garden shed that I want, this lock will be on it! I also like that the combination is on the bottom and is easy to read: no more trying to twist the lock to see one side so you can unlock it---just flip the lock up, which should be easy with the large gap between the lock and the shackle. Finally, I really like how easy it is to change the combination---open the lock with the preset combination, insert the key and twist, and then reset the combination. Once the new combination is in, twist and remove the key---extremely simple! ***WHAT I DON’T LIKE ABOUT THE LOCK: my fault for choosing the wrong lock, but the shackle was too large for any trailer hitch that I have, including my travel trailer. Another issue with the lock is the weight---the lock weighs approximately 8.5 ounces, which makes it heavy for a bike lock. Again, my fault for choosing the wrong lock as this would be the perfect lock for securing a commercial property, a garden shed, a gate chain, etc.

        Solid Security Lock!
        This is an extremely Solid Security Lock! This Brinks combination lock is formidable! …and I never have to worry about ‘losing the key.’ Brinks is top-rated in the security industry. Even the “look” of it discourages tampering. It’s very convenient to be able to SET MY OWN COMBINATION! No worries that I’ll “lose the paper” it’s written on. I highly recommend this lock!

        Excellent Quality, Easy to Reset, and Perfect for Outdoor Use
        I recently received the Brinks #2 50 mm Solid Body Resettable 4-Dial Combination Padlock 3-Pack, and I couldn't be happier. I wanted a durable lock for my side gate that would provide reliable security without the hassle of carrying extra keys, and these locks have exceeded my expectations. One of my favorite features is how simple it is to change the combination. The included reset key makes the process incredibly easy. I was able to set my own personal number combination within just a few minutes by following the instructions. I've used other combination locks in the past that were frustrating to reset, but Brinks has made this process quick, straightforward, and stress-free.         Brinks lock with reset key
        Nice strong combination padlock with a wonderful key accessory that will allow you to change and reset your lock in the event that you forget the passcode it can be reset to something that you will remember. I was afraid it was going to be difficult at first, but is very very simple and easy to set reset lock and unlock. It’s easy to use so anyone from a middle schooler to a senior would be able to use this lock with no problem.

        Very nice and don't need a key anymore to try to find
        These are solid locks. Very thick. There is a key for each lock to reset the passcode. You turn them all to zero, push down the lock and it releases. Put the key into the side hole, just a little ways, turn it a quarter turn, then reset the code to your four digit code. Turn back the key and release. Now that is the new code. Pretty easy. Just make sure you don't forget it. Otherwise it'll be pretty hard to cut. Not sure I needed three of them, but I might give one to a friend. They are great. We'll see after some rain if the turning of the numbers get harder as the unit gets water in it. We don't get much rain here, so I'm not worried, but I'd like to see others who live in WA or OR how theirs are doing outside.

        Solid and useful
        This is a nice combination lock with several nice features. The first impression is that the whole assembly feels strong and well-built. The 2-1/2" shackle allows for a variety of uses, including trailer locks. The resettable combination is a nice feature (the lock comes with a special key that is used to set the combination - keep that little key in place where you can find it!). The 4-number dial is on the bottom, so if the lock is hanging vertically, it should stand up to the weather.
