Product Overview

The Brinly 40 in. Tow-Behind Dethatcher for Riding Mowers helps prevent roots, leaves, grass clippings and other small vegetation from inhibiting the growth of your lawn. It features 20 flexible dual-tine tips to comb the matted layer of thatch in a lawn. 14-Gauge steel weight tray is sturdy and durable while allowing for adjustment of the weight of dethatcher for penetration into the top layer of soil.
  • Maximum Thatch Removal: 40" working width and 2 rows of 10 independently flexing spring steel tines comb through a lawn, lifting thatch up and out of the lawn where it can be mowed or mulched to promote a healthier root system.
  • Multiple Settings for Different Tasks: Brinly's Dethatcher can be set to work as a straight dethatcher (tines comb the grass, flicking up thatch) or in a more aggressive mode where the tines scrape and scarify the soil as they pull up thatch - useful for re-seeding projects. Place the Dethatcher in transport mode for crossing drives and walkways.
  • Long-Lasting Construction: All steel design with heavy-duty tray holds up to 70 lbs. of additional weight (for aggressive operations). Tines are made of durable spring steel; in the unlikely event of a breakage, a safety rod is included to catch the tine and prevent contact with mower blades. No-flat diamond rubber-tread transport wheels for durability.
  • Easy-to-Engage Transport Wheels: The engagement lever, conveniently accessible from the driver's seat, lowers the 6" never-flat transport wheels when crossing sidewalks, driveways, and paths.
  • Spring Steel Tines: 20 long-lasting, triple-coil strength 3/16″ diameter spring steel tines stay flexible and guarantee performance. Tines come pre-assembled to the tray.
  • Universal Hook-Up: A single, heavy-duty universal hitch pin is included to easily attach the Dethatcher to any rider or tractor and most any ZTR or ATV. Features drawbar with adjustable mounting positions to adapt to all tractor hookup heights.
  • Simple Assembly: Tines come pre-assembled on the tray from the factory to decrease assembly time. Includes easy pictorial assembly manual with fastener skin pack; each part is matched to each assembly step. Assembly video also available on Brinly's YouTube channel.

Will the steel tines wreck the yard irrigation system?

Asked by MG September 14, 2020

Answers

Thank you for your question. The previous response is correct; the heads could be marked and avoided. However, we have not heard of people having issues with using a dethatcher with a sprinkler system. It will certainly not harm anything below the soil. The normal adjustment for the tines is to set them 1/2" above a paved surface. Depending on the height of any sprinkler heads, you might be able to adjust it a bit higher to 'clear' them and still have it function well. The tines themselves are made of spring steel so might also 'flex' around them. Good luck with your project and let us know what solution works best for you.

This is not a mower, nor is it motorized. It’s more resemblance to a tension structured tine tiller without any digging.

Can you pay Home Depot to assemble and if yes what is the assembly charge

Home Depot offers "free assembly" on many goods. I've had a dump cart assembled by them in the past for free. I'm not sure that this is one of the items they would do though, because it's so simple. I question why you would need someone to assemble this for you. I purchased it and it took me maybe 15 minutes. There was maybe 6-8 bolts, plus nuts and washers for the tires. If you really must have it assembled, the appropriate thing to do would be to call the store, where you will have to pick it up.

Works really well!
Assembly was easy, adjustments were easy to do. Pulling was easy with a couple of blocks for weight and stability. Just a few passes on my front yard freed up a large wheelbarrow full of dead grass and weeds.Just the ticket

Awesome equipment Awesome price
I was weary about purchasing this dethatcher because of how cheap the price was. I am happy I made this purchase. The Assembly was too easy. All I had to do was read the pictures. LOL . The Assembly to me about 30 minutes. My wife had to help me the last 5 minutes to put together the linkage and control handle assembly. I used it the next following day. When I hooked the dethatcher up to my riding mower I had to readjust the platform to level out the front and back rakes (Unloosen 4 nuts level and retighten). so keep that in mind. I used to cement blocks. The number 1 setting for transport and the number 2 setting worked perfect. I think the number 3 setting would be too much for the rakes to handle. I detached about 1/2 of acre on level, sloped, and a bumpy yard and it worked perfect. this piece of equipment is awesome and so is the price.

Works as it should
I just bought and assembled it a day ago. Not difficult to assemble but because it's mostly stamped sheet metals i was careful not over-tighten. The instructions were adequate. Be sure to follow the alignment instructions while it's hooked up to the mower before doing the final tightening. Check the height of each side with a tape measure while on a level surface. Ran it today on setting 2 with no weight and it worked great. Pulled up about 24 cubic feet of dead grass in two runs around the yard (1/2 acre). Setting 3 moves the wheels off the ground so it sits completely on the tines and this is the only setting i could see possibly needing to add weight for. All these people who automatically added weight probably didn't assemble it correctly or with attention to detail.

This product worked as advertized. Price was reasonable but was charged an assembly of $20.00 price did not show charge as other lawn equipment did. Product was not assembled correctly had to spend approx. one hour reassembling some of the parts after looking online for the manual, several blots were also loose. I would recommend verifying the assemble completed properly before leaving store. The adjustment lever was on backwards and mounting bolts to hitch were loose.

Stop looking and buy this one!!!!
Wow. I didn't half in acre in about an hour. I can probably go faster next time, but I was in bad shape to begin with. I couldn't have dethatched that much in a week with a lawn rake. The instructions were a little weak, but it's mostly an easy assembly. I bagged up more than I do when I'm actually cutting grass. I wish I'd purchased this tool sooner! The trailer sprayer is next on my list.

Saved my back... amazingly efficient
Pulled this puppy behind the mower, and unexpectedly got 13 huge plastic bags of lawn scrapings out of 1.29 acres over a week ago. Lawn is now breathing and looks so much healthier and greener. Glad I had a leaf sweeper to collect the piles of scrapings...

found just what I was looking for
We have lots of pine trees & I needed something to rake up the needles. After looking through many products and reviews I found this dethatcher & I couldn't believe the job it did and although I ran over the same area several times it didn't pull up the well rooted grass. it was easily assembled in just a short while too.

This product works great
I would recommend to any serious gardener. My tractor had no hitch and was higher than normal. So I had to make a hitch which cost almost as much as the detacher. But now I have a hitch for many other uses.
