I'm going to try this again, do you need weight on this to work? I thought it was just supposed to lightly scrape the surface of the lawn

Asked by: Name
I put a 8” x 16”x 11/2” concrete block on mine, mainly to keep it from bouncing on rough spots.

Can this be attached to any make of lawn tractor?

This is much cheaper than the one made by the maker of our tractor :-)
Asked by: WashingtonNewbie
It attaches with a simple pin. If your tractor has a bracket and hole at the rear it should work. If not I would think you could buy something. But most tractors have a hitch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great tool- no more push thatching!!!! Excellent tool that works great. I just finished thatching my lawn and it worked very well. I thatched it in both directions for the best result and then cut the lawn to remove the thatch. If you have used a motorized push thatcher, don't expect to get the exact results. This tool saves time and requires no effort. If you do have to back up, make sure you back in a long curve so the tines do not bind. Follow the instructions when assembling and make sure to put the two hitch plate bolts through the tongue before tightening the tongue itself. I found that this tool best performs when you adjust the tine height to be just touching the surface of the lawn. The tines need to flick so that the thatch is plucked from the ground. Yes I had to take it apart and do it again. If you were to rent a push thatcher, it would be approx. $50.00 as opposed to buying this tool that I think should last 5 years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sure beats a rake! I don't usually write reviews unless a product really stands out. I think this one does. My lawn had lots of dead grass from the excessive heat this summer. I needed to pull this up to ensure new seed and fertilizer could make it to the soil. I tried using a rake. After 10 minutes I was sweaty and tired and had only done maybe 50 square feet of my half acre lawn. Time for something different. This tow behind really worked very well. I ran in two directions and it pulled up tons of dead dry fluff, which I then just sucked up with the mower and bagger. It was very easy to put together and adjust with a ratchet and a few extensions. I loaded it with two 8x8x16" cinder blocks, so about 70 pounds. It was hard to raise and lower from the tractor to cross sidewalks, but it was doable. I think it's constructed as cheaply as possible, but still well enough to do the job for years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Saved my back... amazingly efficient Pulled this puppy behind the mower, and unexpectedly got 13 huge plastic bags of lawn scrapings out of 1.29 acres over a week ago. Lawn is now breathing and looks so much healthier and greener. Glad I had a leaf sweeper to collect the piles of scrapings...

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice no frills dethatcher for the price I was hesitant to purchase this model due to the price - but after my first use I'm happy with it. Assembly was a bit of a pain, but it was nice that all of the nuts and bolts were shrink wrapped to a piece of cardboard so I could tell nothing was missing. After reading the various reviews about adding cinder blocks to dethatchers I bought two but only ended up using one since the way that the bars are attached to the unit don't allow a lot of room for them to fit. Overall the dethachter performed well and pulled up a lot of the dead crabgrass in my yard - but I do have two nits. 1. even though the unit is adjustable, the hitch on my JD D110 was lower than the lowest setting and so while the pin fits through the bars are sitting on top of the hitch and the connection probably isn't as strong as it could be (though this didn't seem to be a problem with pulling the unit). 2. there isn't an easy way to remove the thatch that builds up in the tines - you have to lift up each side and manually pull it off of each tine - I'm not sure if the models with the adjustable height tines would make this process any easier?
