Excellent Spreader - A Must Have!
After getting tired of wrestling my push broadcast spreader about my 1.3 acre lawn, decided to purchase the SDZ-80. It mounted perfectly to my bagger mount used on my Toro MX5050 ZTR mower. The spread pattern of the spreader can be adjusted as well as the amount of product being spread. I use mine to apply pro-lime twice a year, fertilizer four times a year, pre-emergent once a year and grub free zone once a year. The SDZ-80 makes this task effortless and cuts the time to apply these items by two thirds. Needless to say, your lawn will benefit greatly by applying less product at any one time while increasing the frequency of application. Note: I own and highly recommend Brinly's dethatcher, plug aerator, drop-seeder/aerator, 25 gallon tank sprayer and of course their electric broadcast spreader (SDZ-80). Brinly is family owned, been around forever and they stand behind their entire product line - superb customer service and exceptional warranty. Your lawn will thank you!!!

Excellent product. Delivery was relatively quick. I was lucky that it fit my Toro. I called the manufacturer before I purchased my Brinley-Hardy rear mounted ZTR and they were friendly and very helpful. The return policy was helpful also.

I bought this from HD about 6 months ago, and today was supposed to be the first usage. Last night I put it together in the garage, which was pretty easy. When I went to test it, the motor would run, but the spreader wouldn't turn. After a couple of seconds, I realized that whomever put it together at the factory didn't tighten the upper set screw on the motor shaft. I have about every tool under the sun, but because of the crossbeam that the motor is mounted to, there's absolutely no way to tighten the set screw without taking the motor apart. It's not a deal breaker, but it's a real problem that I shouldn't have to fix. Of course, I cannot leave a review based upon usage, but I am leaving one based on quality control.

Bought this spreader several weeks ago and put it together (minimum assembly required). Today the weather was perfect for trying out my new Brinley ZTR spreader. Will have to admit that after reading the sparse negative reviews, I had built up anxiety in using this unit. Eureka! This spreader is the bomb! Holy-moly! It fit perfectly on my Toro MX5050 that already has the bagger mounting kit and the weight kit. I used the same electrical hookup I use for my Brinley 25 gallon sprayer that I leave permanently connected to the battery. It was basically hook spreader mount onto bagger mounting bar, plug in electrical plug, fill with product and go (5 minutes and you're off to the races). Spreader worked like a charm. The biggest challenge for me was getting used to the manual "open/close" lever - toward the engine opens flow of product, away from the engine closes it, while operating dual levers on my ZTR. Found working spreader lever while going into a gentle arc at the end of a run worked best for me. In less than 45 minutes had covered entire 32,000 sq.ft. yard and distributed 6 bags of Pro-Lime. This included learning curve, setup and take down. Too bad I didn't have this spreader for the pre-emergent I put down several weeks ago. I'm sure this unit will see duty when I put down my Grub-Free Zone, Anti-Fungal and late Spring fertilizer later this Spring. note: Due to configuration of spreader, had about 4 ounces of product that was stranded and considered working loss during clean-out. However, did not find that any of the product (lime pellets), stuck to the walls of the spreader. One way of avoiding product sticking to walls of spreader is to always use "fresh" material from unopened bags. Most fertilizers readily absorb moisture and can get "mushy" within an hour of being open and exposedto the environment. Apologize for the rather lengthy post, but I really ("really"), like this item and see a long future with it putting down "product".
