Does this filter fit in the GE FXUVC; or do those require a slightly longer filter

I bought it for a GE- GX15(or S)01R... But I thought those are a standard size. For a while Home Depot even sold different brands that fit... You can always call GE or Home Depot to double check

Does it filter lead?

I do not work for Brita or any other water filter company I am a water consumer like you. In San Francisco our drinking water comes from the snow on the mountains in Nevada and Hetch Hetchy resovour, (which is filled with rain water and unused melted snow from the mountains). Thus, we have pretty good quality water. Still the city adds some pretty powerful chemicals to our water supply, such as chlorine, which is sufficient to kill fish in an aquarium. Grrrr. Inside my house I have newer copper pipes not the old galvanized pipes, which may be that you unfortunately have. Although to look at and smell our unfiltered tap water, it looks very clear and has no pungent smell or odor, I use a two filter system for my drinking water at the kitchen sink. One is for the main cold water line coming into the kitchen sink. This is a red or orange end drop in filter under the cartridge filter as shown in the picture. I also use a secondary carbon filter (instapure carbon filter) right on the faucet arm, where the water comes out. also shown in the picture I added to my response Some folks may consider my water filtration system to be excessive or fanatical. Our kidneys and liver work overtime for processing the poor quality food and liquids we consume throughout our lives. I see no need to add to their burden or workload with chemicals added to our drinking water. Also, I consider the extra cost of my home water filtering system to be very small compared with health care insurance or medical treatment costs due to consuming dirty contaminated water consumed at home. I still have the ongoing opportunity to drink unfiltered water at the local and regional restaurants or at friends and family homes. The situation you describe deserves your full attention. Were I you, I'd seriously consider a similar system to what I have described above. If that did not reduce or eliminate the foul smelling and appearance of my drinking water, I would be inclined to add a primary water filter (sediment only) to my 2 stage water filter system for the same reason s stated above. Brita has various colors of plastic on the ends of their drop in cartridge filters which are suppose to indicate the quality of the filter. I'm not sure of this is BS or true, but the situation you describe, deserves a good quality filter, no matter the manufacturer or brand. Good luck. hope this helps

Does this drop into existing brita cartridge? like the USF 201?

Ordered replacements. I have 2 of these in series. Redundancy for additional peace of mind. Unnecessary, I know. The second filter still looked new in spite of being over 6 months in use. Water looks, smells and tastes like nothing but water. I highly recommend. Effective and good value.
