none of these filters states the micron size of the filters capability 5 and below fine above 5 junk

Answer

Hi Pat! You can use replacement cartridges that filter to the level that you want. For instance, USF101 is for chlorine taste and odor only, so there is no micron rating. USF103 filters to .5 micron and is good for chlorine taste and odor, cysts, lead, and VOCs. USF104 filters to .5 micron and is good for chlorine taste and odor, cysts, lead, VOCs, and MTBE. I hope that is helpful! Please give us a call at 888-808-9100 if we can answer further questions. ~ Meghan, Brita Water Filtration, manufactured under license by Protect Plus

My water comes out cloudy sometimes then clears up! Is this normal?

It shouldn't be, but may depend on the area you live in and the initial quality of the tap water. I usually run my filter for 15-20 minutes after changing and the water always comes out clear after this.

Fitting is wrong size
I second all the bad reviews on here about their choice of fitting size. Industry standard for a wayer shut off under a sink is 3/8 compression. Even new faucets come with 3/8” lines attached, so why on earth would Brita provide a 1/2”?! At least provide two fittings, one 1/2 and one 3/8. Dont want to buy a bunch of fittings to adapt. More fittings = more chance of leaks.

Hello. Thank you for taking the time to provide this input. The Brita Opaque Under Sink Water Filtration System is sold with a direct connect adapter and 3/8" tubing. In some areas of the country 3/8" fittings are standard, while in other areas 1/2" fittings are standard. With a Toll Free Call to our Customer Service Team (866-709-2086, Monday-Friday, 9:00-5:00pm EST) they would be more than happy to send you a 3/8" direct connect adapter. ProtectPlus

While it definitely filtered the water as it should, and installation wasn’t tough, my problem was the “kitchen faucet adapter” that ties in the water filter to the faucet water line and main water line: it started leaking after two weeks. While it was designed for a 1/2” line and not 3/8” like my home, I spent $10 on the parts needed to adapt to my line. That “kitchen faucet adapter” is plastic and is not strong to connect to metal and keep the seal. I called Brita and they took my info and will supposedly contact me soon again to help me with the issue. Hopefully they have a part that’s metal!

Required some adjusting, but works.
The included gasket in the plastic connector for the waterline was not sufficient to create a tight seal. No matter how tightly I connected it, water leaked everywhere. So, I added two additional gaskets. Problem solved. I knocked off a star for that, because my should-have-been-a-half-hour install turned into a three hour project. I would suggest they consider including an extra gasket or two in the kit. Now that it is installed, it works fine. I kept the existing Culligan faucet filter on, which was helping but not completely fixing the taste of the tap water. With both the Brita below sink and the Culligan above, I am finally good with drinking my faucet water without gagging... thank you.

This Brita product is threaded at 3/8" when most, if not all, under sink hoses and connections are threaded at 1/2". You would then need to purchase adapters, which Home Depot does not sell and are not included with the kit. Once adapters were purchased and connected (another $10, plus $20 lost on the filter), the product still leaked. Terrible product and I will be returning it, and I'm still out $30 for the extra hardware and filter!

Hello. Thank you for taking the time to provide this feedback. It appears the adapter was sought to be inserted at the stop valve which as you state is normally 1/2"; however the provided adapter is used on the kitchen faucet line which is normally 3/8". If called upon our Customer Service Dept. would be happy to assist with this need (866-709-2086, Monday-Friday, 9:00-5:00pm EST). ProtectPlus
