Questions & Answers

What is a room to room exhaust fan as the Broan 380 CFM?

I have a square hole in the kitchen that used to have a manual vent. I like to install an exhaust fan. I also looked at the Broan 250 CFM Chain-Operated Exhaust Fan. What is the difference between the Broan room-to-room and the Broan 250 CFM Chain operated?

380 is a larger CFM (for larger rooms) it also has a variable speed control on it. In my opinion go for the 380 with the slightly higher cost, it will cover all spectrums of what you need because of the speed controller.

I'm looking to put an exhaust fan in my attic ceiling( converted to bedrooms) to help control heat - can these fans be installed with a thermosat that allows them to come on at maybe 75 degrees and then go off again when lower heat is achieved-- this would also assists the air when it comes on-- these bedrooms are only used with guests come to town
Asked by: Pat
The 510 is not an exhaust fan; it is a room-to-room fan. That means it will not exhaust the hot air from the rooms. If you want to exhaust the air outside, we would recommend using a 508 instead. This can be connected to model 87W thermostat switch which has a range of 40-80 degrees Fahrenheit. For additional assistance, please contact our Technical Support Department at 800-637-1453.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I was disappointed in the product. It does move the air but on high it is so loud i cannot stand it. Beside the fan noise it It does move the air but the rattling is so loud. I have to keep it on low so it does not drive me nuts. i have tried different ways to make it quieter but have not succeeded yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Fan It does exactly what it is supposed to and works great. I love that it has it's own on/off switch with and integrated speed control on the unit itself. Only one thing that I had to change, The holes on the flange for mounting are to close to the edge so a dry wall anchor would just break the drywall. Easy fix though, drill 4 new holes close to the edge of the flange and mount your anchors there. Hope this helps!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Fan "rattles" because of part defect I also have one of these fans. The reason it rattles on high speed is the metal shroud surrounding the blade is too small a diameter. There is only 1/16" clearance above and below the rotating blade. On high speed the blad drops slightly and hits the shroud on every rotation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from functional, but with two glitches Purchased to mount over a wood stove to move hot air to other parts of the house, and it does this quite well so far -- it has only been operational for 3 days. Upon installation, however, I learned that the air flow was the opposite direction of the arrow indicator on the fan itself. The easiest solution was to turn the whole fan around. The down side of this approach (rather than taking the fan apart and turning the blade around) is that the off/on/speed knob is now on the wrong side of the wall. The other issue is that when running on any speed other than the lowest setting, a crackling sound comes from the fan -- easily mistaken for the crackle than comes from the wood stove when dry wood is burning. Have not tracked it down yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works great the variable speed is awesome. overpowered if anything. you can turn on full blast or at a slower quieter speed. fully removes all hot moist air from laundry/bath room. con-we have it installed between 2 bathrooms and you can see from one room to the other, needs some kind of screen to stop see through the vents are a little cheap but as long as they aren't messed with should be fine FYI I installed it in a 12" wall with some homemade venting. I just took a sheet of sheet metal and cut it to make a box within the wall and then popped in the fan. took about an hour.
