Questions & Answers

Can you mount this sideways in a wall?

Asked by: J1
Thank you for the question. Our exhaust fans and heaters are U.L. approved. This unit is approved for a ceiling installation. To install it in the wall would be an improper installation. Any ceiling heater can only be installed in the ceiling. Only wall heaters are approved for the wall. If you have further questions, dial 888-336-6151 and speak with our Technical Support Department. Thanks, again.

Is it ok to install this in an attic floor with insullation? Is that a fire hazard? Will it automaticcaly go off if it becomes too hot? THanks

Asked by: tina
Mine has been installed this way for some 20 years, no problems! Insulation should be flame proof anyway and you would want to place it around the unit carefully so as not to interfere with the units operation. There are no exposed internal parts, like wires to worry about.

is there a vent to clean from the exhaust fan?

is there a vent to clean from the exhaust fan?
Asked by: wallace
The way mine was installed was through the bathroom ceiling into the crawl space in the attic. We attached it to flex duct that ran to an exterior wall with a vent. So there are two areas that should be cleaned yearly - vacuum out from the exterior vent and remove the bulb and face plate in the bathroom ceiling and vacuum the interior.

Needed to replace my existing unit ( exact same ) and once this was delivered (quickly), instead of installing the entire unit I took out the parts I needed and was able to repair the old problems in under 10 minutes! It now works great, is very quiet and keeps the moisture, odors, etc. to an absolute minimum. One of the better products! 5 Stars!

Second, it is not a super quiet fan especially for its volume of air flow. Third, it is designed more for new construction where joists are exposed. It can be installed after the ceiling is finished, but it is a bit more challenging -- as is the electrical and the vent. If there is accessible attic space above, this would not be so difficult. This fan has been in use about two weeks now. It is doing what I expected; it has no problem keeping the steam out of my small 5' x 9' bathroom with 20, of 4" ducting and 3 elbows (two are not a full 90 degrees).

This neat little unit was purchased as a replacement for the same make/model that had lasted for well over 20 years. The differences between the two units are incredibly small, which made the new one fit the old space perfectly. It is always nice when no extra fitment work is needed. The only complaint I can think of is that none of my nearby Home Depot stores had this item in stock so I had to pay extra for shipping. Also, it would've been nice if the Home Depot website could've searched the stock of all stores in my state at the same time, rather than forcing me to search each one individually. I was standing in a Home Depot using their computer at the time and had a customer service person standing next to me too, so this website limitation was rather ridiculous.
