I tried it behind our cook stove and it did not work well there. I believe it will work above stove but that wasn't possible for us because of a high ceiling.

It's terrible - poorly made, seriously out of balance. the vibration and resulting noise are absolutely deafening. I just "un-installed" the one I bought and will be returning it to HD this weekend.

Why is this fan so loud?

Asked by TSC December 13, 2015

Answers

it's way out of balance and the fan blades hit the inside of the housing. I had to take mine apart and rebalance the fan blade using my drill press to spin it while I brought 100 grit sand paper gently into contact with the edge of the blade. I took roughly 1/16 inch off the radius to address the internal clearance however the vibration is still there.

Is there a filter for this fan that will filter out smoke?

Asked by Tsc November 30, 2015

Answer

We do offer an aluminum filter for the 502 Exhaust Fan. The replacement part number for that filter is S99010271 However, an aluminum filter is only designed to capture grease particles. A smoke filter is not available for our utility-styled exhaust fans. To place an order for the part mentioned, you can contact Customer Service at 888-336-3948. Thank you.

Product was purchased to replace an existing unit that had failed. Fan arrived on time and as advertised. Installation in less than an hour. We are very pleased with the results. Good value for the price. Ventilates the bathroom quickly. Level of sones provide privacy without sounding like a jet engine in your home. Overall very happy and would recommend this product.

(What's this)
Replacement bathroom fans are usually bad - they don't move air - they just make a lot of noise. This one is fantastic - it really moves air - I can feel a strong draft under the door when it's turned on. This fan is really intended for new construction - doing a retrofit can be tricky - you will need attic access. I have an upstairs bathroom fan that I am replacing with this unit . It took a bit of time, but in the end it was worth it.

(What's this)
I have not installed this yet, because I am not quite sure where I want to install it. At 10” diameter, it is much bigger than most bathroom fans. It is very heavy duty and industrial with a full metal box. It comes with hanging brackets, and a damper flap on the 10”x3.25” ducting outlet. The fan blades are a black plastic and the grill cover is a white plastic. It does not come with ducting or a wall switch and it appears to be single speed.

(What's this)
I have a 16'10"w x 9'4"d x 10'5"h lanai that faces west (In Florida). Debated to screening it in because in the summer it is just to hot. Screening is less expensive, but if it never got used why bother. Having a portable A/C unit and now an exhaust fan I can design the the one wall that I need with low-E windows and a set of french doors. The room is 1636 cubic feet. The fan moves 270 cubic feet per minute,16,200 cu. ft/ hour. The fan will be installed vertically in one end of the room up at about eight feet. Since the room will not be used all the time the intent is to get a quick cool down by opening the sliders and turning on the fan, which will not only draw out the heat but the cool air from inside. Once the room is cool I can run the portable A/C to maintain a desired temp.Just to kinda check I put up a tarp where the wall will be, set the fan on the floor with a short extension of 3 1/4" x 10" pipe to the outside. I experimented opening both sliders to opening one slider etc... Of course it's Feb. in Florida now and it was about 75 degrees with 50% humidity, but of course the fan doesn't know that or care, it just moves air, and move it, it does. So if you need to move some air , do a little home work on the cubic feet of the area and size to your needs. And buy a BROAN fan. Just one caveat, don't put a reo-stat/ dimmer switch on this type of fan , your asking for trouble.

(What's this)
My house exhaust fans in the bathrooms were wearing out after almost constant nightly use - my kids and wife use them as white noise makers until they fall asleep. Not how I'd do it, but whatever. So I got this replacement. I haven't ever replaced a fan and didn't realize the exhaust port was different than mine (square vs round). It turns out you can get adapters but I didn't get one with my order so hard to buy one. It wasn't ssd hard to do as I expected. But it wasn't easy to go into the attic to connect everything. I'd definitely use a handyman going forward. It's very powerful so after reading realize I may have bought one a little too big for my bathroom space if I wanted silent. But le I said before we actually don't want different. It's not loud when you're in there but in bed it does provide for some noise. It's an ok fan that seems to work well.

This 270 CFM wall-ceiling side discharge exhaust fan will replace my much older bathroom ceiling fan as soon as my handyman arrives. This fan seems to be very heavy duty which I like; no flimsy fans for me! It is quite modern and will definitely fit in with all styles of décor and colors. It does meet all my expectations for a durable ceiling fan for the bathroom.

Seeds Program Review
(What's this)
This review may not be completely fair of the product because mine arrived damaged. The box didn't show any signs of trauma, but the fan/motor assembly inside the enclosure looked like it took a hit. The fan/motor is attached to a bracket that in turn is attached to the enclosure with two screws. The bracket holes are slotted. The fan/motor was knocked against the side of the enclosure. It was easy to loosen the screws and recenter the assembly, but something seems out of balance based on the amount of vibration. I got this product to replace an existing exhaust fan with the motor bearings failing. The enclosure is designed to fit between the ceiling joists but it turned out the fan I was replacing was tiny compared to the 10 inch blades on the replacement. It's still a great replacement and certainly an upgrade, but the project was much more involved than I hoped. For a new installation, the fan would be easy to install. The fan moves considerable more air than the old fan, but it's also correspondingly louder. Even with the vibration (which may be normal for a fan this size) and increase in noise I'd recommend this product.
