The Broan 290 CFM Through-Wall Ventilation Fan is the perfect solution for rooms up to 285 sq. ft, including one car garages, or use for spot ventilation near areas such as a work bench, garbage can, car, or lawn mower. The durable galvanized steel housing provides superior protection against the elements and wear and tear. It features a built-in exterior wall cap/vent which reduces install time, no duct work needed. Customize your fan with one of Broan-NuTone's wall controls. For automatic operation, choose from a humidity or motion sensing control. To automatically turn off the fan after you leave the room or garage, pair the fan with a delay-off or countdown timer. Disappointment
Bought it to pull the air non conditioned den room up to the attic.
Ideal size. Good reviews. Fair price. But when connected it was SO loud! 7 sones is supposed to correspond 55-60dB.
I've got 80+ !!! Am I missing something here?

Instructions were vague. Not an easy install. When it comes to locking the sliding sleeves together (for wall thickness), you will need to drill holes for sheet metal screws; and it's best to use your own. The provided screws are too short. Don't try and use the channel in the inner sleeve for this connection as the screw heads will hit the fan blades. Fit and finish is a bit less than typical bathroom fans. Noise was acceptable. Recommended with reservations. Hard to find an adjustable thru-the-wall fan, but this one does do the job.

We put this on a timer switch in a studio apt. kitchenette area, and it saved our bacon! Works very well, looks attractive, and we really like the look on the outside of the house (had to spray paint the metal to match our brick, though).

I bought this vent fan. I have it installed for 1 week. I did the installation myself. It works...
I bought this vent fan. I have it installed for 1 week. I did the installation myself. It works great. It is a little noisy on high but I also installed a variable speed switch so it clears out all of the bathroom shower moisture on its low setting and is therefore very quiet.

Fan is exactly as advertised. Noise level is a bit higher than a standard through the roof bathroom exhaust. I thought 270CFM sounded like a lot of air, and it is noticeably more than, say a range hood, or standard bath exhaust, but its not a gale force wind. In my photo studio makeup room, it moves the hair spray out quickly and no fog buildup during long hot showers.
Installation instructions were straight forward for anyone with remodel experience or more.
Fan blades are plastic and sized for minimum clearance to housing, which means you have to be careful about how you support the housing because any sag or twist will cause the blades to hit the housing.
4 stars only because it didn't install itself.
