Q:Would the fan stop mold from growing in my bathroom
by|Jan 27, 2023

Answer This Question
A:Â Hi Grandford,
Thank you for your question on the 763N ventilation fan and light. This model is designed to remove moisture from the shower and bathroom. It is perfect for a room that is 45 square feet or less. It should be using a 4" duct size and ducted directly to the outside. Rigid metal ducted will provide the best performance, but flexible duct can be used. Be sure to insulate the duct work if you are in a cold climate. The shorter and straighter the duct run the better. Using the right size ventilation fan ducted to the outside will help to dry out the bathroom and help to prevent mold and mildew growth.

Answer This Question
A:Â This one doesn't have heat and is 2.5 Sones which is the noise level, I'd suggest a little quieter model. It might cost a little more but worth it in the long run.

A:Â Hi Gary, Thank you for your question on model 763N. Unfortunately, there is no direct replacement for the 9605N. To replace with a fan only unit, you would need to remove the existing model completely, including the housing, and make the necessary adjustments to your ceiling. Your current model was 70 CFM, we suggest keeping the same CFM level for your replacement unit.

Q:I currently have broan Model 763R:/769RL "A" unit. The motor is loud and the light socket no longer works. Will this model replace it easily?

Answer This Question
A:Â Hi Abby, Thank you for your question on model 769RFT. This is not a replacement for your model. The suggested replacement for that unit is the A70L. This is based on performance as the A70L has a different housing. However, there are repair parts available for the 769RL. The replacement fan assembly is part number 0504B000 and a replacement socket is part number 101181000. Home Depot should be able to special order these parts for you. If you would like to troubleshoot the issues before you purchase parts, we do have a Technical Support Team available at 888-336-6151.

The instructions are difficult to read with three columns of cramped small print in Spanish and English - switching columns for the languages from one page to the next. You'll want to read it in pdf form from the Home Depot site so that you can enlarge it. Installation was a pain for me. It is better suited for new construction. For me, a roomside replacement was impossible for these reasons which may also apply to you: 1) My old unit was nailed to a joist in the attic, so I had to crawl up there to pry out those nails. 2) The wiring from my attic did not provide enough length for me to make the connection to the new fan below the ceiling. This fan's wiring is accessed from the top of the unit. 3) Using just the inside mounting holes on this fan did not seem like they would be enough to keep the unit from vibrating a little. I could make it wiggle with a gentle push, so I also used the mounting at the top in the attic. 4) The duct on this new fan was on the opposite side from the old one. This also had to be changed from the attic. -- Another problem is that one of the white wires on this fan was tucked deep in to the wiring compartment and was not visible and easily accessible like the other wires. I was expecting two white wires, but thought that maybe this fan only needed one. When the fan did not work, I almost detached it for a return due to a missing wire. Just to be sure, I fished around in the opening and barely found the "missing" white wire nestled along the side and out of sight. The instructions say to "snap the damper/duct connector onto housing". There was no snapping happening. I just used tape to make sure it stays in place. You'll want to use gloves at times - some of the metal edges feel sharp. It was far more work than I expected, partly due to my shallow attic space, but now that it is done it seems to be working fine. At 50 CFM I still have steam after a shower, but much less than I did before. I'm pleased so far. It makes sound, which I prefer, but is not noisy.

This is an inexpensive unit but suitable for small to medium sized bathrooms. I used this to replace the exact same model in our rental (which had lasted over 10 years). Great fan for the price!
