Asked by Steamy October 20, 2020

THe 82W requires the following: Install only in a UL Listed junction box sized 50.8 x 76.2 x 76.2 mm (2.0 x 3.0 x 3.0 in.) or larger, minimum volume 295 CM3 (18.0 in3). It may not fit into a double gang and still have the cover on it. We cannot guarantee compatibility of our product with products from other manufacturers. We also recommend that you speak with a local licensed electrician to be sure you are in compliance with local and states electrical codes.

Asked by JackJ October 8, 2020

While you can connect the fan and light to this 82W humidity sensing fan, you may want to reconsider. There may be times when you only want the light on and not the fan. And there may be times when you want the sensing feature to turn on the fan, but not the light. We would also recommend that you contact a local licensed electrician to be certain you are in compliance with your local/state codes.

If you have the NutoneBroan Model 82w humidity sensing wall control, then, according to the instruction sheet for that model, it can handle 9 amps for both a fan and light.

We installed the device in a kid’s Jack and Jill bathroom. It senses humidity even though it is about 11 feet away from the shower (lowest setting). As soon as the mirror starts to fog slightly, it kicks on. My husband had to work a little to install it—a wire was buried in the wall, but past that, pretty easy to install.

False activation
The switch activates in the slightest humidity even if adjusted to lower sensitivity.

I had put in a new 110 CFM in the kids bathroom but they kept forgetting to turn it on so I got this switch and it goes on automatically and turns the fan off again when the humidity is back down. Problem resolved!

Worst Electrical Device I've EVER Seen
This is the worst designed, poorly manufactured and cheaply made electrical device I've ever seen in 30 years in the electrical trade and computer industry. The original version of this switch I bought never worked and had to be replaced. Nutone at least now shows the Potentiometers functions and range of setting with a clearly printed black and white label vs white embossed plastic, which was very difficult to read, on the prior version. Unfortunately, because of space limitations, it's still 5 point type making it very hard to read for anyone with less than 20/20 eyesight. The same is true of their installation guide; more micro/5 point type that I needed to enlarge by 200% to read it. Worse still, the Potentiometers require a unique tool to adjust them, which Nutone does NOT provide; I couldn't find a standard screwdriver of any sort that fit into the pseudoPhilips slot: not a standard Philips screw driver, none of my standard computer screwdrivers. I finally found a type specialty electricians slotted screwdriver for releasing push in back wiring of electrical outlets that could be made to wor They need to either make the potentiometers accept a standard small Philips or computer screwdriver or provide a suitable adjustment tool with the switch. The worst defect of this totally flawed design is the lack of an switch to turn the electronic circuitry OFF if or when its humidity sensor and control circuits go haywire and the unit continuously cycles ON and OFF 24/7, and the only way to keep it from constantly running is to either turn OFF the circuit breaker to that circuit, along with every other light or device on the same circuit, or remove the coverplate to the outlet box and physically disconnect the device's wires from the house wiring, which, for safety, requires again turning OFF that circuit. Neither of which you probably want to do at 3 AM if that's when it happens to malfunction. Even if this replacement switch functions properly when I install it, I still say don't buy it until they provide a switch that separates ALL the automatic functions from the manual ON-OFF capability, because if it malfunctions, then you're back to turning off the circuit or removing it from the wall to get it to stop cycling ON and OFF.

Needed for apt. Community I work at. Works just as it should. Other reviews have been negative about how it cycles on constantly, but my experience has been if all three adjustments are turned to lowest setting then it seems to make all our tenants happy.

All Day, All Night, but it's not Marianne sifting sand Yeah, it's a really old song reference. But this thing just won't stop triggering the fan. Day, night, showering, nobody in bath all day, it just keeps triggering. Tried lowest sensitivity, tried switching from AutoSense to 80%, adjusted run time down, nothing helped. Yes, there is a register nearby but that is on continuous fan so there are no humidity spikes when the shower is not running. Found similar reviews on other sites but the builder put this switch in. I have had better success with less expensive brands in prior house. Four months of this foolishness is more than enough, I'll try a different brand.

Comes On/Stays On Too Much
I bought this to conx with my 6" Broan bathroom exhaust fan but it comes on all the time. I have even adjusted from the 10% to 80% and it seems to do nothing different. I did read the other (1) review and he adjusted the "time" function so I will try this next.
