We are unable to provide the resistance needed to run the AERN110 fan at half speed. You can wire this fan to a solid state speed control to decrease the CFM. If you have further technical or installation questions, please contact our Broan-NuTone Technical Support Department at 1-800-637-1453 between 7:30 AM and 6:00 PM (CST) Monday-Friday.

You can put a piece of paper or even toilet paper up the fan when it is running to verify it is removing air from the room. Moisture will condense on any cool surface regardless of exhaust fan. That is just physics. The Nutone fan will minimize it. Make sure you leave the fan running for 15-20 minutes afterwards to remove the moisture-laden air.

Hot, moisturized air wants to rise, so an upward flow to an attic and out the roof is the most efficient way. Not to say you can’t do what you want to do, but I do nott know how effective the fan will be at removing the humid air.

Nice looking, simple installation (self-installed) to replace existing fan (had to slightly enlarge hole; template comes on the box), and very quiet. The fans they replaced were horribly loud and didn't move much air. Used to cringe everytime we'd turn on the fan, now it's no big deal. Will be swapping two more with similar fans, but those will need integrated LED lights, otherwise would use these in a heartbeat.

Install was easy enough for a bathroom exhaust fan. Two biggest issues I see are that most people have no idea what size bent duct they have and it would be smart to include an adapter to reduce fro, 4” down to the standard 3” on most older homes. The second issue is for the noise, it seems to be as loud as the old 50cfm fan I replaced and sounds like it rattles a fair amount. Not sure how others say it’s quiet you know it’s on no question about it.

The AERN110 ventilation fan is designed to be used with a 4" round duct size. We do not recommend reducing the duct size for this model. You will reduce the performance and increase the sound if you do so. You have found that your fan is louder than expected and if using a 3" round duct size, this could be the reason. You can also void your warranty by not following the installation instructions. We would recommend that you change out your duct work and your wall/roof cap to make it the appropriate size. You should find your performance more acceptable once this is done. We do provide ventilation fans that use a 3" round duct size if you are interested in keeping the same duct installed. Please contact our Technical Support for more assistance at 800-637-1453. We will be happy to try to help you more.
Great fan. Recommend.
I installed this without attic access as I cannot access the unit from my attic due to HVAC. I ripped out the old Broan 70CFM unit that sounded line a jet engine and was 8 years old. I cut the new hole to 10.5 x 9.75 inches. The template on the box was great! The new housing slipped right in. Instead of using the small drywall screws they give you to mount the unit, I used 2 large lag screws with large washers to make sure it really gripped and held the unit solidly. It was well worth it. I got the unit in, attached the three wires, attached the 4 inch duct with foil tape, and popped the motor in. Make sure to run the wire through the hole BEFORE you mount the unit permanently. I plugged the unit in, installed the cover, flipped the switch and smiled. Installed! Much quieter than my old unit and moves air well. Can you still hear it? Yes. But not bad at all. As long as your showers are not scalding hot like my kids are, it will work well for you. It moves air well. PS - Make sure you have some slack in terms of the wiring and make sure the duct work is lined up on the correct side before buying the fan. I took out my old one and inspected everything BEFORE going to buy the new one. You want to make ONE trip to Home Depot, not more. LOL. If I can install this, anyone can. From start to complete installation and cleanup, including the hour trip to HD, it took just over 4 hours. Tip - Make sure to put down a large tarp in the bathroom as drywall is going to get everywhere, especially if you have to cut it like I did. It made cleanup so much easier. And don’t forget a small ladder! Good luck. Just take your time and think ahead. Your install will go well.

Bathroom fan went out after a year. Might just be the wiring panel, my multimeter didn't show power from the fan socket, but the testers didn't fit very well in the socket. Either way, it is annoying that it went out so soon.

Over the years I've purchased several 110cfm bathroom exhaust fans. This Nutone fan is much quieter than a builder grade fan it's replacing, it's not as quiet as several of the others I purchased. .3 sones is better. It does pull a lot of air. Perfect for what I needed it for. The humidity problem is solved!

I purchased this product to replace a NuTone fan that had been installed some 30 years ago. This fan is indeed a bit quieter than the one that was replaced. Certainly not a whisper quiet fan, but perfectly acceptable for a bathroom. It works better than the fan it replaced and I am very happy with it. Since this was a retrofit installation, I did encounter a few issues that might be worth pointing out to others who are thinking of purchasing for this purpose. Reading the specifications, it looked like it was a similar size to the existing fan. I thought this might be a 10 minute replacement effort. Well, not quite. After removing the existing fan, I discovered that the old fan had the electrical and duct connection on the same side. The new fan has them on the opposite sides. This meant either the electrical connection or the exhaust ducting had to be re-routed. It was easier for me to re-route the ducting. I did have to cut out about a half inch of sheetrock to get the unit to fit. Not really an issue. I did make the mistake of mounting the unit on the edge of the opening. This left about a 2 inch gap on one side. I thought the fan cover would hide this opening. Turns out it didn’t, so I had to un-mount the unit and slide it over about an inch so the unit was centered in the opening. Notes: 1. Use screws to mount the unit to the joist. If it needs to be moved for any reason, it is much simpler to unscrew as opposed to pulling nails. 2. Center the unit in the opening. If there is an opening of an inch or so on each side, it may help with some of the other items below. I then installed the cover on the fan. Fairly simple to do, but the cover was oriented the wrong direction and thus didn’t cover the holes in the ceiling. The unit as shipped only allows for the cover to be installed in this one direction. It would be so much easier if it could be installed in either direction. To fix this, I had to create a mechanism to hold the cover in the opposite direction. I did this by drilling holes in the sides of the unit. I then used a #8 sheet metal screw, a #8 washer, a fender washer, another #8 washer, and a ¼” spacer. (The #8 washers prevent the screw and spacer from slipping through the hole in the fender washer. One could probably use a #10 sheet metal screw and not require the #8 washers). I screwed these into the just drilled holes and then installed the cover to make sure it was centered over the ceiling opening. This test fitting was done without the fan installed. To install the fan, these screws have to be removed so the unit can get installed. Then the screws can get installed again and the cover can be installed. Now, it might be better to use regular screws with nuts and lock washers *IF* there is space to get the lock washers and nuts on the outside of the unit (i.e. you can get your fingers in the space outside the unit to hold the nuts and lock washer). This would be a bit more stable, but the sheet metal screws seem to be working fine so far. For new installations I doubt these problems would arise. But it might be worth considering what might be needed when replacing with a unit in the future. Perhaps locating the electrical connections and vents such that there is slack and they would have enough slack to connect to all sides of the replacement unit. I would suggest that NuTone make it such that the cover could be installed in either direction. As a retrofit unit, it just makes sense to do so.

(What's this)
This fan assembley is a great product for retrofitting an old unit. The install was fast and easy for my application. The instructions are straight forward and easy to follow. Reading them is a must and will save you time and frustration. The parts fit and assemble well if your replacing similar size. Performance is nice much quieter then the unit it replaces along with clearing the room the room more efficiently. I did install a humidity switch at the fan level which turns the unit on and off quicker then mounting it at the switch level. This would be a nice add on option for any exhaust .

(What's this)
After cutting a minimum size hole, I was able to maneuver it from below and get it into the place (do not install exhaust funnel you will do it last). I finally found that if I remove the connector from the body that hooks up to the hose it can be inserted from below, Just pull the flex hose out in the fan cavity and attach the fan exhaust with flaper to flex hose and push it back until snaps. Now that it's installed, I do enjoy this fan. The air exhaust is superior to what I had before and much quieter. It is an excellent fan. no wonder why is quiet it has squirrel cage fan blades.
