Answerstalked with Nutone customer support, they suggested I return unit for another unit. I did that , the new replacement unit also runs in the 80+ degrees while running and when shut off jumps to 130 to 140 degrees on the motor metal frame? I took my older unit Broan Nutone 688 motor assembly and it does not run that hot at all . Barely 100 degrees when shut down and is not too hot to touch like the quickit 60 unit. Just wondering if this is normal , kinda surprised if unit is rated at 1.2 amps that it creates that much heat in the motor ? Is the motor not efficient ?

AnswersThis will not fit properly with a 696N-R02. The new fan is higher and hits the ceiling of the housing. You can still use this kit though, just pry the fancy black fan and pop your old fan onto it. It works now.

AnswersI just successfully replaced a 696N R02 B unit with this kit - I'm puzzled as to why you haven't had any luck with it. For sure, the new fan looks too big to fit in the housing, and the motor plate needed a bit of a shove to seat properly in the old installed housing, but it did fit, spins freely, and works very nicely. What has been the problem?

AnswersI did replace an older Broan myself, take off the cover and see how big the inside is, it fits most of them. The cover is easy to take off and put back on, hope this helps.

Somewhat quick replacement

I replaced are almost 21 year old 688 Broan 50CFM fan after gradually getting loader to the point it stopped working correctly. The replacing part was relatively simple. Unplug and pop out the old one and pop in the new one and plug it in. The squirrel cage is about 1/8 inch wider in diameter than the old paddle wheel but still clears the old housing and the motor is a little taller than the old one but hangs down into the new cover. The only problem is installing the cover with the housing recessed above the sheet rock. Though the wire hangers are about a 1/2 inch longer, when squeezed closed, than the old ones there is not enough room between the ceiling and the cover for fingers due to the deeper cover. Simple fix is I just have to use needle nose pliers now to remove and install the cover for cleaning which wasn't necessary before. All in all a great simple upgrade from the old worn out fan, with 50 CFM and 2.0 sones, to the new fan with 60 CFM and 2.5 sones, which seems quieter than the old one was when it was new.

This product was brilliantly designed. NuTone understands customer service and the homeowner. This NuTone QuicKit 60 CFM Bathroom Exhaust Fan Upgrade Kit was very easy to install as it was a perfect replacement of the original exhaust fan housing. I thought that I would have to remove the existing housing in order to accommodate the new fan, possibly damaging the newly installed ceiling paneling, but that was not necessary. Thank You NuTone for saving me time on my bathroom redesign project.

I was skeptical at first that it would be only a 10 minute bathroom fan upgrade. Well it was not 10 minutes. It was approximately a two minute upgrade. Yes two minutes and the job is finished. You pop off your cover, you unplug it, you stick a screwdriver and remove the old fan unit. You Then pop the new unit in, plug it in and put the New cover on and you are done. It was literally the easiest job I’ve ever done upgrading something in my house or replacing a broken item

I have installed previous versions of this Upgrade Kit before. This one was just as easy to install as the others. The only problem I had was installing the new cover. I finally gave up and installed the old one of similar design. Those springs are difficult to get into place with my large hands.
This new one doesn't sound as loud as the old one so I assume it runs at a little slower speed. I checked though and it moves air just fine.
I wish some other companies would manufacture bath and kitchen fans with replaceable workings like this. It is so much easier than climbing into the attic space above and modifying an opening for a newer or different style fan.
All in all, I really like being able to replace and upgrade this fan.
Easy retrofit

I had a combination fan and light kit that I installed about eight years ago. The fan motor sounded awful and the finish was failing. I was not sure of the manufacturer so when I saw this item I took a chance and picked it up.
Luck smiled upon me and the fixture that needed attention was also a NuTone. I did not pay attention to the fact that the new fan came with a new trim panel. I decided not to reuse the fixture at all only the duct housing and electric.
Despite the fan being slightly smaller it was simple to modify it to fit the old housing. I used picture frame hanging bars attached to the housing to accept the spring catches for the new trim panel. The specs on both fan motors were identical but this new motor is about 1/3 the noise and easily matches the originals performance.
I nice quick fix to a noisy eye sore. I would definitely recommend the product.
Exact replacement...but

It costs more than similar replacement fans, but it has a different impeller and a new grille, and there's where the difficulty is (more on this later). Yes, it was an exact replacement for my Broan 688h fan. It seems quieter and moves more air than the Broan it replaced. IMPORTANT: Check to make sure the height between the top of the impeller and the base plate is the same as your old fan, and ensure the larger diameter impeller will fit into your current duct housing. It installed with a bit of coaxing with a hammer. After it was installed I used duct tape to cover the openings between the duct housing and the ceiling sheet rock on all 4 lower edges. All totaled, it took about 20 minutes to replace.
Now the issue - the new clips that hold the supplied grille in place MAY NOT WORK if your ceiling duct is installed deeply into the ceiling, like mine is. the new clips are about 3/8" shorter than the old clips and it makes all the difference in the world. For 30 minutes tried every tool in my tool box to get the second clip in place until I realized that the difference in clip lengths. I installed the old clips onto the new grille and I was finally able to clip it in place.

The fan was used to replace the original vent fan that came with the house. The new fan is very easy to install. Just pop the metal tab on the old fan so you can drop it out of the ceiling, then when you insert the new fan be sure and hook the two tabs into place as you are putting it in at a slight angle, then just push up on the side with the single tab and it will snap into place. Then just plug it into the power socket and you are done. You only need a flat head screwdriver to do the install. Then install the cover and that's all there is. The fan does the job, and is a great addition to my overall bathroom remodel.
