I am redecorating a bathroom that didn't have a fan, and the window was blocked as it vented into the Florida room... No one wants to cut a hole in the roof!!! So can I run rigid duct out to the fascia and cut there? will that meet code? (I have a "pizza hut style roof... Mansard)

Is flexible ducting this flimsy OK inside walls? A building inspector rejected this after I installed it for a bathroom fan, saying that it was only OK for temporary installations - e.g. for a dryer (!) - I would say you should use it for fans but *not* a dryer.
Asked by: NigelK
I would use rigid ductwork for both a fan and a dryer.

I know the instructions say to cut a 4 1/2" hole. However, I own a 4 1/8" hole saw. Could i get away with using that? I saw a comment where someone made a 4 1/4" hole and still had a little wiggle room. Thanks in advance.

Wall Vent Ducting Kit is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 89.

It had plenty of extra ducting for the length I need to go and I had to cut a little extra off when I tore it pulling it through the hole. Only improvement I would make would to include a mesh to keep bugs from entering the vent.

We were updating our bath and found the original vent fan that did not have any duct to vent moisture from the bathroom. Purchased this kit along with a new fan. The flexible duct was about 5 feet in length and would not reach the outer wall. So I had to buy a separate duct that was 8 feet. The screws for mounting the exterior wall cap were longer than needed so I used smaller length I had on hand. The aluminum duct connected easily to the wall cap, but I had a hard time slipping the flexible duct that I purchased separately over the aluminum duct. I really liked the fact that the cover fit snugly to the wall cap and opened just fine with the vent fan was operating. Because of the snug fit I cannot detect any air from the outside coming into the bath during windy days. The new duct has only been in for a week or two and we have not had any COLD weather. Waiting to see if the cap will prevent the cold air from coming in. Was pleased with the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from PRETTY NICE EXCEPT FOR THE TEMPLATE Installation tip! The template they give you to mark the cuts in your siding is too large! The template has squared off corners and the actual product has rounded corners, This resulted in a large gap between the vent frame and the siding. It can be easily filled in using silicone calk but if it's in an area the is visible, you will be disappointed with the appearance. For once, I followed the directions when I wish I hadn't. I suggest tracing around the actual door frame to mark the outside frame cuts. You will get a much more accurate and better looking installation. After cutting the siding, you can use the template to mark the hole for the vent tube. I am pleased with the operation so far. I was concerned because I had a run of about 15 feet and was concerned that the fan might not be powerful enough to open the door when turned on but it operates perfectly.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Bad Door We have had this unit on our house for 4 years. The door never stayed shut and would bang on the slightest breeze. Last night the door flew off as one of the top anchor corners broke off. I found the door sitting in the front yard.
