Good morning Gail. Thank you for reaching out to us with your question. Yes this is a click and lock floor. Installation for this floor will require an underlayment pad. Here is a link to the installation instructions for this floor. https://bit.ly/2kbqU8D I hope this information is helpful. Have a great day.

How thick is the wear layer on this floor?

Asked by: TexAg
Call Armstrong for the exact spec, I was told it could be refinished once by a rep, however, my experience after 18months in a residential high traffic area, it will be a long time before a wear layer is a concern.

Can this floor be refinished?

Asked by: Kit
According to the product's thickness it should be but judging from how it shows nicks from dropped items it would be very hard to resurface it without taking all of the hardwood with it.

American Vintage Scraped Tobacco Barn 3/8 in. T x 5 in. W x Varying L Engineered Hardwood Flooring (25 sq. ft. / case) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 98.

The overall, out-of-the box quality of the product is really good - out of 450 square feet of product, there were only 2 small pieces (maybe 1 foot each) that had a flaw and one longer one that was flawed on the end, but I just cut it off and used it at the end of the room. Assembly was really easy with tongue-and-groove glue (can't tell the difference from regular wood glue, btw), a rubber mallet and a flooring edge block to hammer on. The random length of the pieces threw me off at first, but as I went along it was a great benefit - I had very little waste in 450 square feet. The only reason i didn't give 5 stars is because after complete installation, i have about 3 edges on boards where it has "chipped" off and you can see the underlying wood. I guess I kinda expected this and can just hit them with stain and hide the flaw. Not a deal breaker, but not 100% satisfaction either.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hardwood Floors Love, love, love!!! We gutted our condo and renovated everything and these floors are by far the best purchase we made! Our contractor insisted we use an all-wood product (no MDF) since we were installing over cement. We looked forever before we found these. They are three layers of real wood, reasonably priced and they are gorgeous! I was also thrilled they are a Made-In-The-USA product! I thought they looked a little dark in the store, but the variation in the planks is amazing. We installed it floating with an underlayment and glue. They went down easily and look amazing. Total transformation from the ugly carpet that was here. Everyone who has walked in has complimented them. The hand-scraped look hides flaws/scratches (we tried not to, but got 2 moving in). We bought pads for movable furniture (like our bar stools) and that's worked perfectly. I can't say enough good things about these floors. And the Home Depot staff was wonderful to work with -- even took back our excess (unopened) boxes! Definitely a great purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome looking floor... Purchased this flooring for a living room loft and it was my first engineered wood floor installation. I'm a 31 year old female and I was able to lay the floor 200 sq ft in 10 hours by myself. The color is dark but the shade does vary piece by piece. Mix your boxes to get a uniform look. There are about 5 different sizes of boards, which I like but some might not. The texture is scraped, distressed with some few knots. Must purchase an underlayment. I used a rented floor stapler from Home Depot for only $30 a day. Utilized 20 gauge 1 inch floor stapler. Wasn't sure 1 inch was long enough but had to tear up one piece and it was difficult! You may also glue or float. Only piece of throw away was bad cuts by myself, not one board was flawed or damaged. Flooring has a nice shine to it. White substance on the surface is just excess wax, wipes off. You'll need a rubber mallet, tapping block, pull bar and miter saw. Keep seams at least 5inches apart for vertical transitions. This floor is beautiful, I would definitely purchase flooring from Bruce flooring again.

Love the look, easy to install and seems to be plenty sturdy for the teens who will abuse it for a few more years.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Floor We installed this flooring about 6 months ago and it looks just the same as day one - Beautiful. The floor is in the kitchen and living/dining room and gets a lot of use. I keep it clean using a liquid hardwood cleaner in my Libman Freedom Mop. After reading the insert and calling the manufacturer we installed the floor as a floating floor and gluing the joints. The floor is hickory and according to the manufacturer it should not be stapled. Be sure to get your subfloor level as per the insert. It is worth the time and effort. We missed one spot and I can feel the floor shifting slightly there when walked on. Other than that no issues. We also used an underlayment with a foil covering over a foam - rated best level at another store. I have since seen a similar product at Home Depot. Be sure to mix your boxes well as the colors do vary.
