I was told by Home Depot this solid wood with finishes applied. Not sure what chemicals are in finish. I can ell you this that my installer had to change blades on his saw because the wood is so hard after only doing my living room. I highly recommend this product

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 0 Stars - DO NOT BE FOOLED I’ve never written a review for a product before but am compelled to help others avoid my mistake. DO NOT, under any circumstances, buy this flooring. We bought 1,400 sq ft for installation in a brand new construction home. 50% of every box was unusable. Boards were milled poorly, with variations in width that resulted in gaps between boards. Some boards were warped and would take a 5 degree turn. Others were wider at one end than the other. Unless you measure every board, you don’t know which have these defects until you nail them down and the next ones don’t fit. If you buy this product, be prepared to buy 50 - 100% more than you need and for 3x the installation cost and time. We ended up returning the wood and getting a different product from another manufacturer - and lost the money from our initial attempt at installation. An incredibly bad experience that I wouldn’t wish on anyone. If you’re not convinced, check out other reviews of Bruce flooring online. I wish I had.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from ORDER EXTRA!!!! DUE TO "BAD" BOARDS in each bundle The flooring is very nice and the All American Made logo from the wood to the packaging was well received. We pulled our old carpet out of the den and old hardwoods out of the dining room and replaced it all with the pre-finished hickory. We painstakingly removed the old hardwood to reuse in a different area so we could have the look of a seamless floor on the first level. YIKES!.....We used roofing felt as the moisture barrier and laid this on top. THE ONLY thing I want buyers to know is to make sure that you order AT LEAST 10% over what you need because there are A LOT of "bad" boards in the bundles. We ordered the 10% overage and I honestly think we needed another bundle or 2 to replace the bad boards. That's the only reason this does not get a 5 star rating. There were boards with "dings" on the edges that we had to touch up to get our job done. Other than that, the flooring is very nice. We would order again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good looking, hard finish, sometimes rough surface. This product is very expensive. I got lucky and purchased a whole pallet load that was on a very good sale. At the original price, over $100 box (22 sq. ft.) it might be worth it, but only if you want a specific look and have the cash. The product was good and it's supposed to be rustic, but a few of the spots are really rough. You might want put them up against a wall or below a piece of furniture. The only other problem was that the stair nose and a transition piece didn't have quite the same finish as the rest of the floor. They were off enough that we rechecked to make sure it was ordered correctly. It's a minor issue though, not noticeable unless you're looking specifically at it. One really good thing. We have two dogs and I can already tell that the finish is really hard. Between the dogs and moving furniture around we still don't have any scratches, which is surprising.

Buyer Beware: Let me start off by saying that I LOVE HOME DEPOT and I appreciate how they stand behind their products. This flooring is great if you are willing to purchase 3 times more than you need in order to find boards that are straight, properly milled and NOT FULL of worm holes. I get that this is supposed to be a rustic floor, but let's not misconstrue "rustic" for 2nd hand flooring. We spent twice as much money on installation and product due to the incredible number of damaged pieces. My contractor opened box after box, selecting a few "usable" pieces from each and telling me the rest was GARBAGE, his exact words. We also wasted way too much money on shipping the product to my home and then hours of packing up the crappy pieces (endless) and lugging them back to the store. I am soooooo sorry that I did not go with Mirage or any other brand as this truly cost 3x what it should have when all was said and done! I am not at all confident at how this flooring will wear over time, but I will be sure to post again and let you know!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great flooring. Great flooring. We installed just over 735 sq ft, and had minimal waste as we'd take cut boards and start the new row from the other wall. Very few boards came with natural defects or warped that we didn't want installed. Installing this in our kitchen, dining room, living room, hallway and entryway has made our house look incredible. We've never installed hardwood flooring and figured it wouldn't/couldn't be that hard. Installation isn't hard, although it does take a toll on your back after you've done it for 6hrs continuously nightly for a week. Highly recommend buying a nailer, don't rent one, especially if you don't plan on getting it done in one or two days. Our store didn't carry them in stock. Highly recommend taking the time to measure correct distances from walls to stair and planning out your start location correctly, it'll save you the headache when you get to the stairs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love this flooring! We are so happy with this flooring! It is absolutely beautiful and better than we could have hoped. There were some pieces that had weird spots that looked like water or bleach spots and some planks that were a very odd color compared to the rest, almost a grayish color compared to the warmer colors of the rest but only one of the grayish ones was used. A friend of ours that does home improvements installed it so I couldn't rate on ease of installation but he finished our living room and hallway in less than three days. He kept saying how much he liked it and I was glad he suggested hickory for the different colors of the wood. The installer had said to order 15% more square footage than we measured for bad pieces. We had not even a full box worth left out of 16 boxes of pieces that weren't good or he didn't need to use so not bad. We're extremely happy with it! People posting pictures with their reviews helped us decide so I posted one too. We will see how easily it will scratch but sounds like it's harder than maple or oak and we moved all the furniture back without any scratches. We would highly recommend this flooring!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very Pretty Floors These floors are amazing! I installed approximately 2000 sqft a year ago and they are holding up great! They are beautiful, and installed with ease, especially compared to laminate or engineered wood. These floors hide dirt extremely well, and we are always surprised when we clean them. I have noticed some discoloration under where we have rugs, which is apparently normal. I recommend placing a nail every 4 inches to really hold them down. After performing the backbreaking work of installing floors, I sped up the process by nailing only every 8 inches. The boards are fine, but there are a few that move when I step on them. Overall this is a beautiful, high quality product with very few bad boards in the packaging. I'm going to do another wood floor in a different house and will probably use Bruce Hardwood.
