Hi there! Thank you for reaching out to us with your question. Laminated rosin paper or #15 builders felt (tar paper) acts as a moisture retarder and may be used to reduce movement caused by changes in subfloor moisture, thereby reducing cupping and warping. (This is especially helpful over crawl spaces and basements.) In addition, the use of these materials can give the flooring a more solid feeling, reduce sound transfer, prevent noise caused by minor irregularities and debris, and make it easier to slide the wood together across the surface of the subfloor. Kraft paper may be used to make the installation easier but DOES NOT serve any other purpose. For your convenience, please visit the following link to view the full installation recommendations for our solid 3/4" hardwood products. https://bit.ly/3tgmT5i We hope that this information is helpful. What is the grading of the flooring?

Asked by Buffalo January 18, 2021

Answer

Hi there! Thank you for reaching out to us with your question. We do not use a traditional grading system, but classify our products by Good, Better, and Best performance classes. These classes are determined based on Janka ratings, finish type, and other factors. The Bruce - Country Natural - Hickory - C0610 falls under the Best Performance class; therefore, carrying a 50 year warranty. We hope that this information is helpful. Please feel free to contact our Customer Services at 1-866-243-2726, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. EST., if you'd like additional assistance. Have a wonderful day.

Answer

Hi Bob, Thank you for taking the time to contact us with your question. Beautiful hardwood floors are a product of nature and therefore, not perfect. The Hickory species has a board-to-board color variation that is more pronounced -- there will be random streaks with a variety of naturally prominent colors from very light cream to dark reddish brown to sometimes very black. We encourage you to view several actual samples of the product, before ordering what you need for your project. With multiple samples, you may be able to get a better idea of the color variation. Another option is possibly ordering one carton of the material to look at the product. We hope that this information is helpful. Please feel free to contact our Customer Services at 1-866-243-2726, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. EST., if you'd like additional assistance. Have a wonderful day!

Members in family have allergies and lung disease. Is this low VOC or no VOC flooring? Do you sell ones that are?

Asked by Dee September 5, 2020

Answer

Hey there Dee! While solid hardwood flooring does not have added formaldehyde into the product, solid wood does naturally have very small amounts of formaldehyde that emit, similar to many plants. The amounts are considered safe and in fact, solid hardwood flooring is recognized industry wide as a product that is recommended for people with chemical sensitivities. Please follow this link, https://bit.ly/3jhO9dx, to view our current FloorScore Certifications. Answer

Hi Jeni, Nothing is as striking and inviting as a home with true hardwood. Thank you for reaching out to us with your question. All of our hardwood products have a Urethane coating, which contains Aluminum Oxide that is then UV cured. We hope that this information is helpful. Have a great day!

Does the beveled edge create a groove between the boards, and if so, how wide?

Asked by Mike April 12, 2020
1
Answer

Hello Mike! Thank you for contacting AHF Products. Per the National Wood Flooring Association, micro beveled edges can be between .025" - .045", which would not be large enough to create a groove that something could catch on, but enough to give texture from one plank to the next. I hope this helps!

Excellent product and looks even better. Ordered 7 case for a small bedroom and had very little to no waste. Good mix of long and short pieces. I am a diy'er and was very easy to install with the right tools. Have a friend who's a contractor and borrowed his flooring nailer for the job. This was the first time installing hardwood flooring and is very easy to do but is time consuming. My wife is very happy with the look and now wants to do the rest of the bedrooms in the same flooring.

Great product. Purchased on sale at about $3.70 a sqft. Most boxes had long strips. Some boxes had only short strips that must be intermingled with the long strips or used near end of run. Overall very please as strips are nice and straight without warping.

Beautiful!
We installed this earlier this week and are very impressed. It is solid and strong and already notice it does not scratch easy. Highly recommend.

We installed this hardwood over the course of 1 weekend in our living room, which included taking out the old carpet, padding, and a small section of tile. We placed just under 300 sq ft of the hardwood. I purchased a used flooring nail gun that shoots cleats and it worked great, ensuring an accurate hit in the groove and helping to push the pieces together nice and snug. The wood was good quality with a variety of lengths. We didn't have too many that had cracks, wrapping, or other defects that we needed to discard so we had very little waste. We think the color is great and it went in well. I would recommend this wood for other. All our friends have commented on how beautiful the wood floor looks as well. We had a Floor Muffler underlay which seemed to be high quality as well, but more expensive than other alternatives.

We bought 46 boxes of Bruce Solid Hickory hardwood flooring. I saw another comment/complaint about length of boards and wanted to give more info. We have opened 8 boxes and sorted the pieces from these eight boxes by length. See picture. Most boxes had at least one piece over 5 ft long. There were a total of 13 pieces longer than 6 ft; 35 pieces between 5 and 6 ft long. One box alone had 6 pieces over 5 feet long. One box didn't have any piece over 3 feet long. Shortest pieces were 11 inches (17 of those). So bottom line is: if you are only buying a few boxes, you may get stuck with lots of short pieces. But overall, the distribution of lengths in these 8 boxes will work for us since we don't have an abundance of long rooms or hallways to cover.

Great product! We just put down 360 square feet living room floor. My 21 year old son did the installation- his first experience with this. Some guidance was needed by my husband to make sure the first few rows were straight- but most info was learned watching youtube video! The small width, 2 1/4 in, takes time to do. Larger width would go faster- but the overall look of the floor is amazing!!! This Mom is soooo happy! I want to order more to do another room, but just found out it is out of stock right now. The price was exceptional.

The color and quality was truly excellent. We were scared because we purchased this product during an online sale sight unseen, but when it arrived it matched exactly what was shown online. I can't wait for our kitchen remodel to get finished so I can lay this flooring down!

Very pleased with this flooring!
We put down over 500 sq. feet of this flooring and I could not be happier with the look. The wood was consistent with only a few minor defects encountered. I highly recommend this flooring.
