Answer

Hi Eric, Thanks for contacting us with your questions. The Bruce - solid hardwood products are not water resistant/proof. Because hardwood is a natural product, we cannot predict a time frame in which the product may start to react to spills. If liquid remains on the floor for a period of time, the planks may start to swell up; therefore, we recommend cleaning up any spills as soon as possible to prevent permanent damage. While the urethane finish found on our hardwood floors is durable, it does not make the hardwood impervious to scratching. Hardwood can scratch or dent with enough direct pressure to the surface of the wood. If you are looking for a hardwood product that is waterproof, we recommend that you look at our Hydropel engineered flooring collection. The Hydropel is made with real wood and it's waterproof for up to 36 hours. For your convenience, please visit the following link to view the options: https://thd.co/3pEFia9 We hope that this information is helpful. Yes, although note the boards are already prefinished and slightly thinner than traditional hundred year old maple planks.

Dear Valued Customer, Thank you for reaching out to us with your question. Please know that a solid 3/4" hardwood product can be sanded up to 3 times, throughout the lifetime of the floor. Since AHF Products is not in the refinishing business, we would recommend that you consult with a hardwood flooring specialist to discuss refinishing options. We hope that this information is helpful. Have a great day.

What is the wear layer height, 5/16”?

Asked by Jc66 June 16, 2020

Answer

Dear Valued Customer, Thank you for contacting us with your question. Hardwood floors do not have wear layers; that term is typically reserved for vinyl floors because they have a separate layer applied to them that resists wear (hence why it is called a "wear layer"). Hardwoods have a finish applied to them to help resist wear. The finish we currently apply to our hardwood floors is a Urethane that contains Aluminum Oxide, which is then UV cured. The Bruce - Natural Maple - #AHS4010 is a solid 3/4" hardwood. This means that it's made with solid pieces of wood, so it does not have any layers. We hope that this information is helpful. Please feel free to contact our customer service at 866-243-2726, Monday through Friday from 9am to 4:30 pm, EST. if you have any further questions. Have a great day.

Answer

Hello George! Thank you for contacting AHF Products. We do not use a traditional grading system such as No. 1 and No. 2. We do have performance classes that sort our products into Good, Better, and Best based on the species of wood, wood visual, finish, and warranty of the product. This product is part of our Good category as it contains a wide variety of natural features, a urethane finish, and a 15 year warranty. I hope this helps!

Answer

Hello JMC! While possible, we do not recommend gluing this flooring down as it creates more waste than a nail down installation. We would recommend putting down a plywood or OSB underlayment to nail the flooring into. You can find our detailed installation instructions here: https://hardwoodexpert.ahfproducts.com/knowledge-base/installation-instructions-3-4-solid-hardwood-plank-strip-products-for-mechanically-fastened-staple-nail-or-cleat-applications/

Will this hardwood warp if it's sitting in a non-temperature controlled warehouse for several weeks?

Hi Violet, Natural beauty of hardwood never goes out of style. Thank you for reaching out to us with your question. Solid hardwood flooring should be stored in the environment in which it is expected to perform. Deliver the materials to an environmentally controlled site. Store in a dry place, being sure to provide at least a four-inch air space under cartons which are stored upon “on-grade” concrete floors. Flooring should not be delivered until the building has been enclosed, with windows and doors in place and until cement work, plastering and other “wet” work is complete and dry. For your convenience, please visit the link below to view our full installation recommendations which include other helpful information regarding storage. We hope this information is helpful. Have a great day. https://bit.ly/320TA9z

The long edges are beveled, and I believe you would need to sand down approx. .5 mill in order for the wood to be flat edge-to-edge. If not, then there is a slight groove on the surface, but they do fit tight.

Bruce has several solid hardwood natural maple products at Home Depot. For example, there's this ...

Good morning Scot, Thank you for taking the time to post your question. The lifespan of a wood floor can exceed 100 years, making it a tremendous investment value. The only difference between these two products is in the width. The CM3700 is a 3 1/4" wide plank and the SHD2710 is 2 1/4" wide. Both floors are incredibly durable and include a 50 year warranty. We hope this helps with your decision. Have a great day.

softer than pine
Maple is one of the hardest woods. However, this version is softer than pine. Rolling a refrigerator straight back and forth causes deep gouges in the wood (approx 1/16” deep). Daily wear causes countless scratches, and we don’t have pets or wear shoes in the house. I have purchased this wood twice, from different batches, to complete the project. So, I know it wasn’t the batch. I bought a different brand of maple floor for the dining room, which has sliding chairs. It has zero scratches. I want to tear out and replace this inferior Bruce maple. It’s complete garbage

Response from Armstrong FlooringFeb 14, 2019
Good morning. Thank you for taking the time to post a review of our product. I apologize for the inconvenience; it is our aim to provide quality products and services to our customers and to meet your expectations. All wood flooring products are susceptible to indentations and can scratch or dent with enough direct pressure to the surface of the wood. Indentation resistance or hardness is a natural characteristic of the wood species and for that reason Armstrong as well as all other wood manufacturers will not accept claims due to indentations and scratches unless otherwise specified in the written warranty. Again I do apologize for any inconvenience. Armstrong

Maple is an awesome wood. We purchased 8 boxes. There was very little warping and there was only 1 plank that had a blemish that made about a 6 inch area of it unusable. We've installed only oak flooring in the past and I am quite pleased with the quality of this wood. The appearance is insanely awesome.

We have had this already installed in our family room for about 2-3 yrs (same product, just wider planks) and were so happy with the quality we installed in in our quest room. What a difference a nice looking floor can make, and the price is great! We installed this ourselves and my husband was happy with the quality of the boards (he said he has heard with cheap wood floors they are often "bowed" and hard to install)

Awesome floor
We installed this wood on one entire level of our home. It's been there a year, and we love it! We are planning to install it in a second level later this year. Excellent value. Easy to install with the proper tools.

Beautiful floor at excellent price. Hope it will stand up to traffic better than Plano Marsh Oak floor
Several years ago we installed the Plano Marsh Oak solid hardwood floor in our bedroom. While it looks very nice, it's very glossy and it shows many dents and imperfections from foot traffic, dog paws/claws, etc. It's not really scratched, it's what I would call "dented" or "dinged". So...this time we bought 22 cases of the Cinnamon Maple solid floor to do our great room and hallway area. This floor is a lower gloss - what I'd call a satin finish, and maple is harder than oak, so I'm hoping this floor is more resistant to the dogs and normal foot traffic. Time will tell. I will say this: at $3.00/sq ft, this floor is comparable in price to a mid grade of carpet, so it's an excellent value.
