Technically you can insert another 5 gallon bucket when the lid is removed but it will not stack like a normal 5 gallon bucket would. Only about 1/2 the bucket slides in. Plus you risk cracking the ring of the lid if the 2nd bucket is too heavy.

Are these ant proof? I am in a climate where ants tend to be a problem.

Yes. They're airtight, provided you close them properly. They have an o-ring gasket that has to be on correctly so when you close the lid, the gasket is not twisted or pinched.

Once the lid has been installed on a bucket, can it be removed to be used on a different bucket? (if so, how?)

Yes you can, but it takes a little effort. At least it won't leak - nice tight fit.

Can buckets be stacked on top of each other if using the black leaktite screw off top?

Can this be used with a trash bag/liner in the bucket?

The lid is tight and not designed to take off and on to replace a liner. You also wouldn’t be able to line the bucket and screw the lid on. It is designed as an airtight, water tight seal .

It states on the product page that it's made from HDPE and is food safe. So, I would think it is BPA free. HDPE is a number 2 plastic used most commonly for food containers. According to the Mayo Clinic website, #3 and #7 plastics are most likely to contain BPA.

Wood Pellet Storage
I purchased three along with the 5 gallon bucket with the Texas flag printed on it. I'm utilizing to store wood pellets for my pellet smoker. Really good design as the snap ring and the screw top each has a rubber gasket to seal out humidity. I did find trying to install the snap ring onto the bucket was very difficult. Immediately pulled out my rubber mallet and pounded it on with medium force starting at one point working around back to the starting point. Wallah... went on without a hitch. The screw top easily screwed down and sealed. I didn't tighten too hard as thinking when the barometric pressure changed enough to cause a vacuum. I'll see if that problem arises as I'll address it by drilling a hole to the size of a rubber stopper to pull to release a vacuum. This is a great setup to store wood pellets. My sweet wife is going to make some labels for the buckets to indicate the wood species.

I'm using this to hold the wood pellets for my smoker/grill. As these need to remain completely dry, this lid is the PERFECT solution paired with the food certified 5 gallon bucket at Home Depot. My hopper holds about 15 lbs of pellets, and the bucket holds the remaining 25 lbs with room to spare! Keeps them dry & secure and stores perfectly under the smoker on the built-in shelf. I would highly recommend it! Hoping it holds up to CT winters as well as it does the summer thus far.

I also bought the five gallon bucket too. The lid was super easy to attach. I gave it as part of a Survival Prep Christmas gift. I bought survivalist blankets and ponchos, one gallon of water, etc... My son appreciated it because the bucket and lid are food safe. I do plan to buy more for family prepping.

Difficult to put on the pail, but, it is a tight fit. Word of advice....unscrew to loosen the cap before attaching it to the pail. If not, it's difficult to open it once it's set in place. The whole bucket moves.
