This door is right width but the length is 8" too long...can I trim that much off? Need a 24"×71-71"....

Asked by: Barbie
The wood is solid, so you could cut it down (say 1" off the top and 7" off the bottom) but I think it would look odd.

The door would have been great but the glass panels are covered with plastic that is very difficult to remove after installation and painting. We tried pulling the glass out but couldn't remove it cleanly so we needed to cut it very carefully with an x-acto knife and there are still bits of plastic that you can see around each pane of glass. I understand they were trying to protect the glass during shipping and painting but it very much reduces the final finish look of the door.

We bought two of these to install in what was an arched opening between two areas of our house. The wall is 10" thick so a standard pre-hung unit wouldn't work. These doors are well made and are drilled at the top for a bullet catch. My wife liked the plastic covering the glass as it made painting easier for her but cutting all the plastic out afterward was time consuming - it would probably be just as easy to scrap the excess paint. We were sure to paint the top and bottom - we'll see how well these doors stay true after the normal seasonal expansion with heat and humidity next summer.

Installation was not an open and shut case but was not too much of a pane either. At one point I was in kind of a jamb, but ultimately my success hinged on careful measurement.

When I flipped it over to sand the other side, there was warping/bubbles in the veneer they glue on. I had assumed, given the price tag of this door, that it was solid wood, not solid wood with a glued-on veneer. I ended up having to to cut the bubbles out of the veneer, then putty fill. I would not buy this door again.

The clear glass door has been hung on the kitchen entrance showing what is outside the door and what is inside the kitchen.. The glass panels open up the kitchen whether the door is open or shut, it invites you into the kitchen. It is exactly what I was hoping to achieve - a very French looking area.

Very good quality product and appreciate the plastic film on the glass panes that make staining and varnishing the wood a breeze. Factory packaging should include Styrofoam or heavy cardboard protection on corners and rails as some dinging of wood on edges and corners during shipping and handeling.

I especially like this product because the glass is covered with plastic on both sides to protect it and it makes it very easy to paint . When you are done painting you just pull the plastic off and you have a nice and clean paint job. No scraping the glass needed.
