Q:Can anyone tell me how could I go about calculating weight?
I need to build a workbench top but it can't be over 400lb. How heavy would 1 square foot be if is .75 inches thick at most. Probably half an inch at the end.

The wood arrived in good condition. It was well packed. All the wood, except for 1 or 2 inches at the end of 1 board was usable. It was square and nicely finshed - ready for stain! I was very happy with the wood.

All six boards were either straight or had an allowable crown. There was only one board, with a rough area that had been cut close to a knot that measured about 6" in length on the end of the board. I used these to rebuild a cast iron framed park bench, along with Rust-oleum glossy black paint, Minwax Red Oak stain, Varathane exterior finish. I used a 3/8" quarter round router bit to round the edges. A total cost, not including tools because I already had them, of $160 vs over $400 for a new one.

I've used this 2 times. Most recently I made shelve edges where I ripped this into 1x1 sections and then sawed a slot into one side to take a glass shelf. This is good stuff. The only real issue I had last time was finding enough dead straight pieces of it as most are warped. I used some dark red stain then some urethane type finish. Turned out awesome. Wife/boss was thrilled.
I'm getting ready to buy more to use a drawer dividers in a new tool box. I'll buy 1/8 MDF, cut it to fit each drawer exactly and glue/screw on a section of this on the back and front of the drawers. Each section will have a 1/4 deep groove every 1". After this goes in each drawer I'll cut 2" sections of MDF or aluminum that will simply slide into these grooves and create long sections for tools.
