AnswersThe "cutout" is on the unfinished back side. Note that the top front edge is a tiny-bit rounded. The bottom-front edge is square, but it can be easily-filed to mimic the top-front edge. It is actually 5" tall , but only 7/16" deep.

AnswersYes, it is actually 5" tall, but only 7/16" deep. The bottom-front edge is "sharp", but he top front is a bit rounded. However, it is easy to file the sharp bottom edge - to mimic the top rounded edge though.

This product, (used as base-moulding in a contemporary build), was very hard to find but HD had it!
As with similar, relatively-long (16-foot long), and flimsy (5" tall x only 1/2" deep), MDF/wood/PVC products - the ends were a bit damaged due to standing up the storage racks. However, the front-face and edges were undamaged, so all the pieces were usable.
More importantly, HD might want to eliminate the transport-hazards of these 16-foot long pieces to a given checkout and out of the store. For example, these were in the back and had to be brought on a wheeled cart, (with both ends dragging nearly out of control), to the checkout through the narrow isles that also have free-standing displays. Perhaps post a sign to offer employee-help or store these very-long, awkward products closer to the checkout and nearer to the lumber exit - to mitigate potential customer/employee injuries as well as product/store damage.

The product was very flexible yet sturdy enough for me to be able to create my own profile on the board. The product was still light enough to manage a 16 foot section without assistance. The product height creates a real nice definitive line between the wall and the flooring. The product has been installed for over 2 weeks now and has stood up to the pets, toys, and my big toes.
