I am not sure about using screws. The shutter lol fasteners worked for me since they blended in well with the shutters and I have never seen caps

Want to replace cracked fasteners. I noticed the cracked ones have a “wrap” around threads. Anyone know about these?

We ordered new shutters and I didn’t know they came with plastic screws and metal. We have a brick home and we used the metal screws. I returned these plastic screws to the store.

This is a very. poor method of anchoring the shutter to the house. I would think that they would work much better in brick, but they don’t. When you live in a warmer climate like Texas where the sunlight destroys everything that isn’t metal, vinyl fasteners are not the best material. The shutters themselves have warped and this has caused these cheaply made anchors to pull out of the brick or break. The others do break off from the weight when a couple of these fail. I replaced the original shutters themselves in 2013, mostly due to breaking from hail damage. I don’t know if the newer ones are made by “Builders Edge” or not, but I purchased them from Home Depot. I’ve had to replace the fasteners three times since then on a couple of the new shutters, I’ve tried caulking them in, using liquid nail, and they still break off. The last three sets are “Builders Edge” and each time, they have failed much quicker. It’s a real pain to replace these. The point I’m trying to make here is that this method is easy for initial installation. What would make a better replacement fastener would be if the anchor was made out of stainless steel with a large head and a smaller diameter bolt. It would need a small enough toggle that would fit through the hole that would open in the space between the brick and the outer wall of the home. There’s generally about a half an inch of space in between the brick and the outer wall. But the toggle has to fit through the hole. A cap washer that snapped shut or caps that matched the shutter would be an improvement to these cheap plastic fasteners. I knew at some point I was going to have to replace these when we purchased the home in 2001. It was just over one year old. The vinyl shutters that I purchased to replace the original ones are know very faded and have warped as well, but at a much faster pace. I didn’t think the actual shutter would warp. But I guess the UV rays from the morning sun is the culprit. It gets sun from morning till noon. Then no direct sun. I bought the shutters based on the fact that the holes lined up with the initially installed ones. The original ones lasted longer because the builder used a ton of clear caulk on the outer edges. Compared to the ones I purchased, the old ones had not faded nearly as bad as the newer ones have. Now the newer ones are extremely faded. So I’ve got three options, buy more of these and glue them in with caulk or something, replace over $600 worth of the same type shutters, or remove them entirely! The fading isn’t the problem, the fasteners are the issue I’m tired of dealing with. Texasbear

I was attempting to replace the old ones that broke, but once these are about halfway into the hole, they begin to bend and will not insert any further. I tried everything I could think of, but fighting with these fasteners from the top of a 32 foot extension ladder was becoming dangerous. I'll return these and use reliable concrete anchors. I'll probably save some money.

Replaced existing shutters with a new style and color. Removal of old shutters was straightforward and provided a template for drilling new shutters. Purchased these extra fasteners, in case I made mistakes, but fasteners that came with shutters were sufficient.
