Is this shovel used for cutting through sod?

Is this shovel used for cutting through sod?
Asked by: Gardengal1
I've used this to cut through sod with no issues. I've dug garden beds and a paver path with this shovel and have had no issues.

14-Gauge Round Point Shovel with American Ash Long Handle is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I really dig this shovel This is the first full sized shovel I have ever owned. Having recently moved into my first house that was not HOA-controlled, I suddenly had the need to do things like remove an old fence post, turn soil, and relocate a bush. I ordered this as part of the Seeds program, which very timely offered this up as an item and delivered it the weekend I needed it. The shovel itself has a long, well-finished wood handle firmly attached into a metal spade. The spade is well formed and suitable for both piercing and displacing soil. It is made in the USA and I have no doubt I'll still be using this is 30 years. So far I've used this to dig up that old fence post as well as relocate a mid-sized landscaping bush. Having never used a full sized shovel before, I just had at it. No real challenges other than the fence post being very heavy. The shovel performed as expected and without damage on both tasks. This was a good addition to my outdoor tool set. I'd recommend it for anyone looking for a nice, long-handled, made-in-the-USA shovel for their backyard or garden.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High Quality American-Made Shovel! This long handle shovel will provide you years of service in the garden, thanks to quality craftmanship and design. I am 6'6" and this handle is even long enough for me to use comfortably with no excessive bending due to its length. The blade is well-formed (as you can see in the picture) and extremely well-made. It really is a high-quality American-made product that shows pride in manufacturing. I highly recommend this spade. You will not be disappointed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I can dig it!! I've been digging a lot. I have worn-out or cracked two older fine-quality garden shovels by ditching and prying rocks. This shovel is HEAVY DUTY! Made for HARD work! The blade is a heavy gauge of steel. The foot-pads are wider than most, easier on my foot (and boot!). The handle ferrule is long, very well welded to the blade, well braced. I don't think I can possibly break this. The handle is American Ash which is a particularly fine handle-wood, and this one seems to have been selected *for* straight grain with no knots (let the cross-grain and knotted Ash go to the furniture factory). Only time (and summer rain) will tell if the finish holds-up, but it looks great. In use: this shovel is not for light gardening, or spreading light loam. This shovel is for Real Work. You can stand on it and force your way into heavy clay, then lean on the handle and bust out a large lump, without straining this shovel. Pops rocks and roots just as good. For throwing dirt a distance, you may want a lighter shovel, but this one is terrific for the breaking-out stage of hard work. May be good for some roof-shingle tear-off, or trash/scrap pick-up. It is plenty strong. Usually you'd use a flatter blade, but this may be good in corners and valleys. I've been digging a pond in very hard clay. I used this shovel for clearing the corners that the back-hoe won't dig. Works very well.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good basic shovel I needed a shovel to replace a well worn one. This certainly does the job. It is a very sturdy and well built shovel that looks like it will last a very long time. It has a solid shovel area with a sharp pointed area and ridges that make digging into the ground very easy. The shovel is attached to the long sturdy ash handle with a large bolt and feels very secure. I would have like it to have a padded or rubber grip on the upper handle to lessen the friction and the chance of blisters on my hands. But that's what glove are for. It you looking for a well built shovel then this is a good choice

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Strong Sturdy Shovel I picked this shovel because its 100% made in America. I also chose this shovel for a few reasons: first, my shovel lost its point and needed to replace it with a pointed shovel, I like the long handle, and the strong metal shovel. I like the fact the metal shovel is coated to withstand all types elements and hopefully will prevent it from rusting. I have already put it to good use with planting new plants and installing a rail fence. I gave it four stars because of the ash wood handle and I don't know if ash would splinters or not. Other than that its a great shovel.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Shovel You'll Be Proud To Own I have busted more long-handled pointed shovels than I care to remember! They are usually marketed as "hardwood handles" or have fiberglass handles with wimpy wood underneath. Folks, this is Ash wood! Ash and Hickory are the best woods I know of for tool handles. One thing that makes a good shovel is the fit between the blade and the wood. If you have a poor connection there, you can take it to the bank that the shovel will break as soon as you put strain on it. Bully Tools is a company I'd never heard of before, but they make garden tools anyone would be proud to own. The big, tough welds on the steel, the heavy gauge steel itself, the sharp edges, the nice wide foot brackets, the tight fit between handle and blade, and the quality Ash handle on this shovel make it one to last a lifetime of hard work. You can bet I will look for the Bully Tools label next time I need a garden tool! And best of all, it is 100% American made! It is so refreshing to see things made in America again! Knowing that your neighbors made a product you are using makes you feel great! I ordered two Bully Tools spades and this long pointed shovel from Home Depot, and have to say that the packaging was over-the-top great! Not only were all three garden tools well boxed, but each was individually wrapped to protect the handles and blades. Not a scratch was to be found by having three heavy garden tools shipped on one box. Thanks Bully Tools, and Home Depot!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from DIG IT! This is a very heavy duty shovel. When you pick it up,you can feel the quality of the shovel. The wood handle is sturdy and allows you to put some pressure on it without feeling as if it is going to snap. The metal blade is also heavy duty and doesn't bend when digging like some cheap shovels do, The overall weight of the shovel is a bit heavy, but that's what you need for tough digging.
