Can you use these screws to install trex decking?
Asked by: Doug59
Yes, I have used this on Trex decking and others. This is an easy system to hide the screws.

Why 1 7/8 lengths? Seams short for standard deck 5/4 boards If they do have a special purpose please let me know ?

Asked by: nick
These screws must be used with the camo gun. There not regular screws. Used with the camo "gun". They will provide a hidden fastner that works quite well. Most economically priced hidden fastner I could find. This length will work well, you don't want them any longer.

What is the diameter of the screw head?

I'm looking for a very small head screw to minimize view-ability for screwing strait through the facing of the board.

Made to fit in camo gun only

I read a review of this product stating that if the wood is new or "wet" then this system does not work well due to while the boards are drying it can cause warping and it will twist and break the screws off. Is there any recommendation as to whether or not we can use this with treated lumber that is still "wet"? This was the review on Google: Very easy to use and the guide is great for creating the spacing you need between boards. However BE WARNED the screws and the angle they go in do not have alot of strength or "sucking in" power. If you are like most people and get fresh wood delivered and use this system then as the wood dries it will all twist and buckle and some of these screws will break but mostly the boards will just twist right off of them. You will need to let your wood dry for a few weeks on all sides if you insist on using this system. If not use regular T25 style decking screws. I had to remove all these screws and returned everything to Home Depot for a refund. Very good idea but not suitable at all for fresh wood and the manufacturer should document this on their product page. It will look great the first week but give it a month and you will be sorry. Either let your wood fully dry or go with another system

This product is for trex type decking only, not for pressure treated.

1-7/8 in. ProTech Coated Trimhead Deck Screw (1750-Count) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good system. Good system.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These screws hold on tight! Using the longer screws for all ends (and vertical screws). These fellas hold on tight and draw the board down well. Can be a little tricky to back out - Just step on the board while unscrewing. If you miss the board below, don't bother trying to remove the screw - It won't back out. Just drive another one nearby.

THE POINT (so called drill end) IS TOO DULL. vERY DIFFICULT TO START THE SCREW INTO THE WOOD. I installed a 30 x 46 foot deck using these screws. Make sure you add a extra 2x by at every butt joint, or they will split the decking board.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful warranty easy application better than expected spacing. I would recommend the camo screw system. For contractors looking for an edge this is it. No penitration in the surface of the boards, much less chance for water to get into the deck board or the substructure. show your clients the video and you can increase the jobs you get. Perhaps even the bid price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Screws work well. Very happy with the Camo system. Not overly cheap but the look is worth it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good system, but with some flaws I guess rating the screws alone is kind of silly. The system is pretty good, but I see 3 areas where it's deficient. The tip of the screw looks like a flathead screwdriver. It is very difficult to get the screw to start, or "tap" into the decking. Once it finally starts, it drives down OK, but why it doesn't come to a point on the tip like any other deck screw is beyond me. You cannot get close to a wall, so you can't even get 1 side screwed down. It would be great if somehow the screw could be installed at least on one side of the deck board against a wall. This would probably require a different tool- perhaps a "half-tool" for these situations. Butt joints over a single 2x joist are difficult to get 4 screws into. Again, it would probably require a separate tool, but one that allowed 4 screws at once, slightly angled in towards the center of a 2x would work. It would be awesome if 1 tool could do both. Finally, I have used this on regular 2x lumber and also composite decking. I prefer it to grooved decking and the necessary hidden fasteners. But make sure you use the correct screw length for your particular application.

I have used Camo screws for 5 years and have had no problems with them coming loose or breaking. Use with the Camo jig to get proper board spacing and angle of screws.
