Are camo screws good

I head that the screws are not withstanding the shrinking and expansion of the wood. Is it true they split during the weather change?
Asked by: Rakesh
I have not had any issue. Check http://www.camofasteners.com for additional information.

will this tool work on a 2 x 6 with rounded edges?

i want to router the edges of my 2 x 6's. is there a maximum radius if i router the edges?
Asked by: jb
Absolutely, tool has an adjustment to fit a wider board. You will also want to use the longer screw, e.g. 1-7/8” For use with any nominal 5/4 deck board (3/4” – 1” board thickness) – ProTech and Stainless Steel. 2-3/8” For use with any nominal 2x deck board (1”-1-1/2” board thickness) – ProTech and Stainless Steel. I HIGHLY recommend this system.

Can this be used to replace top faced screws on an existing deck to eliminate top screws?

Asked by: Angela
If the is adequate spacing between the deck boards, this system should do what you want. However if you remove the face screws you are leaving a large number of holes in the deck boards to accelerate decay and breakdown of the wood fibers.

I'm super glad I found it and read the reviews before installing 400 square feet of new Trex decking. This tool helps you perfectly space the deck boards and guides the fasteners into position. Very easy to use and works exactly as described. I used the pro version that allows you to load the fasteners from both sides. The other version that only loads from one side would be a royal pain. Don't bother, get the pro version. You will still need to face screw any boards up against a structure as you need about six-eight inches of clearance to use this tool. My deck came out fantastic and I couldn't be happier about my purchase of the Camo Marksman Pro Tool.

The deck looked great all the boards were down tight I treated with IPE oil as it is port oroford cedar decking. this spring I noticed some of the boards were loose and had shifted. I pulled a few 20 footers up and found they were held with only a few of the screws. The others had broken off between the decking and the joist. This is not the first deck I have done and I did install the screws correctly . The screws did not hold up over the freeze thaw cycle last winter. Save your time and money buy some good deck screws.

When it comes to composite PVC the screws will ride on the surface and you have to use force to hold them in place. The problem here is that the screws do not have a pointed tip its flat. Take a close look at the screw tips.

Problem is the screw leaves parts of the vinyl overlay of the deck boards sticking out which is somewhat unsightly. Maybe its just due to the cheapo Trex Select decking I used.

It works well in conjunction with the camo screws. The only issue is that it is slow. I had to be on my knees to use it. Probably to slow for a contractor but good for a DIY'er
