Yes

Is this unit weather resistant?

Asked by PowerMan February 19, 2019
7
Answers

No - absolutely not! You cannot operate this unit in the rain! The amperage output on this machine is tremendous and a short circuit due to rain could cause major damage, a fire or death if anyone is near it or touching it when that happens. Rain & electricity do not mix!

Does this generator have automatic idle control?

Asked by Debo October 27, 2019

Answers

sort of. This generator has speed regulated to a constant 1800 rpm in order to maintain 60 hertz frequency. Inverters are different. this one is not an inverter. So , the answer to your question is idle or fully loaded, the regulation adjusts throttle to maintain speed.

Does this generator have extended handles for moving it?

Yes it does but it is quite heavy. be careful when transporting the bracket on the bottom with the rubber fit is flimsy and will bend. Hope this helps. God Bless

Can entire gen output be ran through L14-30 receptacle or do I need to use the 50 amp one.

Asked by Dennis January 5, 2019

Answers

At the rated 9200 watts that is about 42 amps. So you would need to use the 50 amp outlet. The l14-30 is only rated for 30 amps or about 6600 watts.

Well this generator run the whole house

Asked by Greg June 29, 2019

Answers

NO. Unless your house is very very small. You need to figure out which devices you need to operate in a power outage and calculate the watts they use. A typical 3.5 ton A/C unit with air handler uses about 4700 watts. (I looked at the specs for the generator compressor unit + the compressor fan + the air handler and added them up to just over 4700 watts) A refrigerator uses about 1200 watts. (the label in frig tells the wattage demand) That's 5900 watts right there with just the A/C and frig running. Most devices have either a wattage rating on a label or they have an amperage rating on a label. Volts x Amps = Watts. (For example the refrigerator label states: 9.8 A. That's 9.8 amps x 120 volts = 1176 watts) Another way to look at it is this: If your house has a 100 AMP main breaker, then assuming everything is turned ON, you would need a 24,000 watt generator. 100 amps x 240 volts = 24,000 watts. With this 9200 watt generator I run my refrigerator, A/C, entertainment center, computer, and several lights, but not the microwave. That brings the usage up to about 8600 watts, just below the maximum the generator can put out. This generator also has a 38 amp breaker built into it. 38 amps x 240 volts = 9120 watts. Anything higher that 9120 watts and the generator breaker trips. To run a whole house, you probably need a standby generator. Those put out a variety of large amounts of wattage and are very expensive. They typically run on natural gas or propane. Hope this helps.

Now I will feel secure during a hurricane
Customer review from championpowerequipment.com logo
Purchased prior to the 2020 hurricane season. Although we did not need to use our generator this year, my wife and I were confident that if one did hit our area, we would have air conditioning and not lose any food in our freezer or refrigerator.

2020 Miami Champion Generator
Customer review from championpowerequipment.com logo
I bought my generator to help prepare my family for the 2020 (and beyond) hurricane season. I wanted something strong and reliable and Champion Power gives me the comfort I need to rest assured I will be fine after any storm. Here in Miami Hurricane prep is year rebound and with Covid we have to be even more self sufficient than ever. With a Champion generator I feel like I am taking the extra step to care for and prepare for any storm that might threaten my family.

Great Investment
Customer review from championpowerequipment.com logo
Great investment! We just moved into our first house and got hit with a tropical storm. We ordered and received our generator in 3 days! We had our electrition hook up a transfer switch and my husband was able to hook it up in an hour. It powered eveything we needed in our house (we have a well, so needed it for water). We hope not to need it often, but happy to know we have it when we need it.

Solid generator
Customer review from championpowerequipment.com logo
Purchased this to run the majority of the house in case of a long-term power outage due to a hurricane here in central Florida. I hook it into a 50-amp inlet plug that I had an electrician install on my main electrical panel along with an interlock switch. Runs all lights, ceiling fans on high, fridge, microwave and portable A/C unit at the same time with barely a hiccup from the engine. The 50 amp plug plus higher then 30 amp breaker on this unit was what I was looking for since I also wanted to be able to use my electric stovetop with it and during my load test after the 5 hour break-in and oil change, it handled it like a champ! I don't doubt that this unit could most likely also run my home's 3 ton central A/C system but I'm sticking with the portable A/C unit for now to leave room for other electrical loads. It was also able to run my old school electric element water heater with no issues, but I would cycle that on only when needed. Can't beat having a hot shower during a power outage! I was initially concerned that because this unit was not an inverter generator, it wouldn't output clean enough or stable enough power for my living room entertainment system (TV, Game Consoles, etc.) but running everything on it was just fine and when the unit ran out of gas while under load, it shut off cleanly versus pulsing and causing a brownout that could damage electronics. Very big plus for me. Champion's customer support also came up numerous times as leagues above the rest when I was researching which generator to buy. Also another big plus for me as I'm not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination and if I were to run into a problem down the road, it's great to know that they're actually reach-able when you call them. Overall very happy with this purchase and the overall build quality.

Very powerful, but.......
Customer review from championpowerequipment.com logo
Purchased this generator for my Montana 50 AMP RV, it powered both A/C units, water heater and electric pump, refrigerator with no issues, excellent power output! Unfortunately there were 4 noise complaints to the park attendant from the loudness coming the generator. This unit is extremely heavy and large, even though it has wheels it is difficult to maneuver and pull or push very far. I found it to run about 7-8 hours on a full tank with a full load.
