Would this work well as the border for a small stone patio (pea sized stones)?

Yes!

Does the brown col-met steel edging acquire a rusted patina?

After some years the metal edging will develop rust due to weather, water, and weed eaters. I wouldn't call it a patina, however --- it's just plain ol' rust. It doesn't diminish the integrity of the metal and, if it's accomplished its purpose of being an effective border, the rust is no big deal. Not as noticeable on the brown as the green edging. Plastic/rubber/thin wood will have played out long before the rust is a concern.

How do you handle the end piece? Fold it over or use the splice stake to archor the end?

I had to use a reciprocating saw with a metal blade to cut it when I needed no more border. It wasn't folding over for me...it was hard trying to bend it in half (as that is how I planned to "break" it - but nope, that ain't happening); however, with the right tools it was a breeze.

I need about 2ft to finish my project. How do I cut to the length I need?

A reciprocating saw with a metal-grade blade did the trick for me. Quick and easy.

Is the top sharp or “rolled” to reduce risk of being cut if accidentally stepped on?

The top of the edging wall itself isn't sharp, it's smooth, but the stakes are sharp (after being broken off the ends of the metal barrier, of course) so just make sure you hammer them down BELOW the top of the edging wall. Hammering them (directionally, the right way) also can help get rid of some of the sharp pieces.

What tool do I need to cut the stakes loose?

The stakes on the edging will come off with plyers.

Can a 4' length be combined with a 12' length? Approximately what would be their combined length?

You lose about 8" at the joint so you will have about 15' 4". Hope that helps.

Do you stock this in longer than 4 ft sections, and do you have it in green?

Very easy to put together and install. I'm a chick and I did this whole project by myself with no help from my hubs or son. It took me about an hour and a half to complete this 24' section on my back patio next to the gazebo. Breaking off the stakes is simple too - just use a pair of pliers and stand on the other end and bend it back and forth until it breaks off...maybe 3-4 times is all it took. Make sure you do it in the grass, or on a towel or cardboard though, or you can use the side that will be on the inside of your garden and not outside, so it doesn't scratch the paint. I had a slight ~30 degree angle to go around along the route, and it was easy to bend with my foot standing on one side and my hand grabbing the other end. It's a strong barrier and will keep my elephant ears from expanding their roots beyond the soil this year (they kept creeping onto the patio and we lost almost two feet of patio due to it). Lol We did lose a lot of our plants to the Texas freeze this past February, but some elephants and others are starting to sprout back up and I'm hoping they continue to populate! You could hardly see the wall last year. Sad part is I only bought 6x pieces (24') and needed one more piece to finish the last 90 degree turn in the back. I'll grab another piece next time I'm there, but so far so good and I'm happy with the outcome. It was simple - that was my favorite part. I'll likely buy more for some other garden areas and flower beds too!

Easy to install sometimes it has to be cut to lenght but its not hard to do with jig saw or a saws all. Using the corner stakes makes the 90 drgree turns look great. It cost little more but its can take on a weed eater with no damage Also you need more stakes. Waiting for rocks and project will be completed.

These are great for my lower walkway that gets covered in dirt and mud every winter. After being out of the house for 10 months because of a tree, the yard was terribly overgrown and is taking weeks of work to get under control, these are making a HUGE difference.
