Applied this back in July and it has still held its color in November. This has saved me a lot of time and money. We usually pull out the mulch every year or add mulch to it to give it a dark clean look. Figured I would give this a try and so far am very impressed with it. Application was super easy and I am anxious to see how much longer it is going to last.

We have five areas on our front lawn with aging black mulch that the Texas sun has bleached over the years. This colorback liquid mulch colorant (in black) brought back a nice flat black color to the mulch in only one coat. You only need 4oz per gallon of spay mix, so this bottle goes a very long way (they claim up to 6000 sqft). We only covered about 500sqft and used about a gallon and half of the the mix. It is very staining, so use an old sprayer. We found an old 1 gallon HDX sprayer that we have used over the years and it had no problem spraying the mixture. Quite pleased with the result.

Excellent Coverage from this one half gallon on Colorback mulch dye concentrate. I was able to reuse an old battery operated sprayer from another brand for swift, even coverage. I suggest you use something that offers a continuous spray flow for the best coverage . I live in South Florida and weeds grow everywhere and fast. Mulch alone will not stop them here so I used a trick from a Master Gardener. Newspaper blocks weeds when wet. It just smothers them. I run mine through the shredder, use the mulch dye for better camouflage, then cover with mulch. I love this product because it lasts through the rain, is easy to apply, and makes a frustrating job a little easier. Recommended

I have placed mulch in flower beds around my house and decks and after time the natural color of cedar mulch will turn bland after a time. I have black handrails so I thought I would try the Colorback in black to see if the mulch being black would accent the rails on the deck, the end result looks great. It is easy to apply just mix in a garden sprayer and get with it.

I’ve not used this mulch colorant in the past. A neighbor suggested I give it a try. My mulch has not degraded in substance but has lost some color. I followed the instructions carefully and the application turned out nice. I do hope it lasts. Be careful where you mix the colorant as it can temporarily stain anything it comes into contact with. I mixed about 4 ounces per gallon in my garden sprayer. I tested the spray pattern and found that the “cone” setting was the best for my sprayer. I made sure the mulch was as dry as I could, no rain or watering in the last couple days, and it turned out great. If you spray near your house or building foundation, don’t spray the foundation. I used an old piece of cardboard to protect the foundation from overspray. Do your best to not get any of the solution on you or your shoes/clothes. Be sure to use all the mixture and thoroughly rinse your equipment when done. The half gallon size goes a long way at 4 ounces per gallon mixture that makes 32 gallons of solution. I like it and again, time will tell if it lasts.

Love the idea of this COLORBACK Mulch color restorer but it was a bit of a mess. Careful when and where you do your mixing, a drop spilled does tend to stain. Similarly, when spraying, be mindful of your target and the wind. Our flower beds are bordered by red landscaping blocks and the stain readily absorbed into the block. It's been a couple weeks and it's fading but lesson learned. Directions could have been more clear about the "use within 5 days" statement. I assumed it was the mixture, not the concentrate, that had the 5 day recommendation. This was not a problem as I sprayed one day, racked the beds the next day and applied another coat to get the other side of the mulch. Bed preparation is important. Be sure to remove leaves, pine needles and other debris or items you do not want stained. Overall, a good product for a mid-year spruce-up after a few months of sun fade.

Ok so, I usually throw down fresh mulch every other year. This year being the off year I decided to give COLORBACK 1/2 Gal. Black Mulch Color Covering up to 6400 sq. ft. a whirl. Directions are pretty self explanatory as far as the mixing. I used a 1 gallon Round Up sprayer with the fan setting as directed. Before spraying I recommend raking and dead leaves and pulling up any weeds as this product is for the mulch only. Spraying went on pretty evenly, but as a precaution when spraying sections close to the house or plant/tree trunks, spray close to the ground as to prevent the spray from getting on the thing you don't want it to get on. You also may need a second spraying for extremely faded mulch, but that is mentioned on the bottle. The color also withstood the first rainstorm after applying. The one thing I'm not quite sure of that I read in other reviews was, it says must use within 5 days. I'm not sure if it meant the portion that you mixed already which is the way I took it to mean or you must use the whole opened container within 5 days. Maybe COLORBLACK can chime in on this review. All in all, this is a good product to refresh the color of your mulch for the season. Posted some before and after pictures. The before pictures are blocked by some shadows but you can pretty much make out the before color.

First off, I checked that I am recommending this product but only if you have a lot of mulch to spray with it because once opened, you have about a week to use it as its shelf life is short. As for the product itself, it is a dye concentrate that mixes with water and sprayed onto mulch to retain or restore its color. It works. I used it in front of my house and it did a very good job on the mulch but the leaves and grass remain did not absorb the dye and didn't cover well but the product does not make these claims so I can't find fault. I was careful not to get this on my cloths but did get some on my hands and it did come off after some serious washing. In summary, the product does what it claims and restores color to faded mulch. It is a bit pricy but compared to the cost and labor of reapplying mulch, it may be worth it.

I needed to cover a large section of mulch and tried the premixed solution first & that worked well so I got one of these to continue (I used this in the originalbattery operated trigger sprayer). I didn’t need solid black coverage but more to just make red mulch look ‘less red’. Worked out good for our purposes, it was easy to mix and easy to apply.
