Can I use this to clean an outdoor electrical outlet?

Can I use this to clean an outdoor electrical outlet?
Asked by: CC
Whoa... if this was me I'd be a bit careful at what I use where with electricity. Now, it is not that you couldn't use this great product on your electrical receptacles, however, you would be wasting the expensive CRC Contact Cleaner for these types of jobs. First off, never use metal on the inside of an electrical outlet regardless of where it is; use plastic or wood like the handles of small brushes turned around [You holding the brushy end]. Take the cover off the receptacle, this is called the receptacle plate. If it is truly an outdoor receptacle it will have a rubber type gasket between the cover plate and the electrical box. Don't mess up that rubber type gasket. Instead of sticking a screwdriver between the cover and gasket or the gasket and box, spray WD40 around the outside of the box at the gasket area ONLY. Remember, you have to take out the screws that are holding the electrical plate on the front. There may be a plastic cover also as part of the front. Be careful not to crack the cover. The Sun will bake plastic to the brittle point. WD40 and 'Plastics' get along great. TIP: Bring a couple of shop type rags with you to wipe up excess fluids that may get at the receptacle face; in other words, don't get fluids [except CRC contact cleaner] from getting into where you plug anything into the electrical box. Now, tap on the outside of the electrical box where you sprayed the WD40 with a rubber type hammer or a stick one inch wide or larger and then spray the gasket area again with the WD40; wait about five minutes. After your wait time, try twisting the electrical cover back and forth. Still stuck? Spray WD40 again, wait a minute or two and try twisting again. Tap on the edges to help loosen. Be careful with plastic covers and taping. Think about this phase as being as gentle as possible. You can use the small plastic or wood type brushes turned sticks to help pry off the cover. The gasket may come off with the cover or the gasket may stay on the box, it doesn't really matter. Once the cover is off, you can use some kind of air to blow loose debris out the box, if you can get the small sticks in the box without pushing wires around to loosen debris, then blow out. I know this has been a long way around to answer a somewhat simple answer, however, I didn't want your small project to turn into a three-day tragedy. You can spray the CRC Contact Cleaner into the receptacle spade and ground plug area as well as the screws where the wire attaches to the receptacle. Don't waist the CRC spray on plastic, wood, and housings. If it was me cleaning electrical outlets wherever they were, I would use CRC 11 oz. QD Electronic Cleaner found at Home Depot also. Here: https://www.homedepot.com/p/CRC-11-oz-QD-Electronic-Cleaner-05103/205021975 With this stuff, you can just about spray it on anything. Please read the directions, it'all help.
