Asked by: JC
No, this paint does not have high odor. It even says low odor on the label. I have done 2 different projects with this paint, both indoors and no special ventilation was necessary. This is an excellent quality paint.

Customer Reviews

1 gal. White Trim and Cabinet Interior Enamel is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 275.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A really good paint for cabinets We had old pine cabinets, around 40 years old or so. We stripped them down, primed and attempted to use a regular latex enamel paint. The latex enamel just didn't hold up. It was already chipping off and we knew with the use our kitchen got, this was not going to work. We did some research and found the Cabinet Coat enamel. It's a little more expensive than a gal of Behr and I could only find it online. It was delivered quickly and packaged to withstand the journey. This stuff is awesome.2 coats and it's hard as a rock. Cleans well and has held up to chipping and scratching so far. It goes on a little differently than regular paint, I guess it's more leveling so it seems thinner, make sure to catch those drips quickly. This paint does dry to the touch fairly quickly, but the downside is the 6 hour wait time between coats vs 2 hours for regular paint. Took a little longer to finish the project, but I believe the result was a much better result. Plan on using it for our baseboards and trim now.

Durability over time on high traffic areas (around door and drawer pulls) is just NOT THERE. If I'd have written my review after just applying, the only complaint would be that it's thin and takes lots of coats for coverage, but that is partially because of its formulation for high leveling. But here's the thing: I did LOTS of prep work to make sure the cabs, drawers and doors were ready for paint. It all looked good when I was done. The parts of the cabinets that do not get high traffic still look fine, but this paint is simply not hard enough to tolerate high use areas/women with fingernails, etc. Every door/drawer that gets more than just occasional use has missing paint after JUST ONE YEAR of use!!! This would be disappointing if it were priced the same as some other mid-range paints. It's unacceptable when you consider the ridiculously high price for a gallon. I can only assume that people giving it high marks haven't had to live with it for any length of time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A product that far exceeded my expectations. Finish is almost like original manufacturer! This is not the first time I have used this paint. I had previously purchased it locally. Sadly, the store that stocked it closed it's doors and thus I started a frantic search for it. It is an amazing product that is easy to use, easy to clean up and produces a high quality finish. Dry time is fast and it can be used on a multitude of different surfaces without need of primer. Like anything painted, the more attention given to prep the better the finish but from can to surface the result is still great. The only drawback is this paint cannot be tinted to dark colors. It is a self leveling paint so that brush marks are not an issue. I have used dense foam rollers and brushes and love the final outcome. Note that once the paint cures the finish can withstand just about anything without being compromised. Can't say enough good things about this paint. What makes it even better is that you can order it online from H.D. with no shipping charges and it can be delivered right to your front door. How can it possibly get better than that?

This paint does a pretty good job as it covered everything that it was supposed to. My only recommendation is to NOT use a primer, which I did, as this paint covered a dark cherry finish with 2 coats, and the parts I used a primer on showed streaks after everything was finished. Additionally, I bought 2 gallons for my small/medium sized galley kitchen and I still have 1/4 gallon left; 1 gallon goes a long way. IMPORTANT: The only reason this product has not received 5 stars is that it states it should not be applied if the ambient temperature is under 50 degrees (F) or above 90 degrees(F). I live in southern Arizona and it's May; ambient temperature is WAY above 90 degrees (F) and the only place to paint our cabinet doors was in the garage, without any AC. The paint seemed to dry too quickly, which didn't allow it to self-level; lines can be seen on some doors, at certain angles. However, as this is the only negative thing I can say about the paint, it's not too bad.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! I moved into a place that had white kitchen cabinets and although the doors and drawer fronts looked fine, parts of the cabinetry had turned yellow. It was really noticeable in some areas and was really starting to bother me, so I decided that I needed to fix it or get new cabinets. Since the cabinets had a melamine finish, I knew I couldn't use regular paint or it would most likely look awful, so I did some research on the internet and found this product. Since it was rated well, I thought it would be worth a try since this was the most economical way to fix the cabinets. Needless to say, I was not disappointed! The parts I painted looked so good that I am thinking of painting the doors and drawers anyway, even though it's not really needed. I would recommend this product to anyone looking to refresh older melamine cabinets or would like white cabinets with a nice finish.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Updated white cabinets I used to paint tan cabinets. I used a sanding block to give all surfaces a quick sanding. Next time i will do the sanding outside in the yard for the doors and drawers. Wiped down with damp cloth. Once dried I started my painting. First thin coat went on like a primer. Used 2 more thin coats to cover. It dries quickly within an hour and finish is smooth and semi glossy. No strong orders. I allowed to cure for a full day before attaching hardware. I first did the small bath rooms and will be doing the kitchen. I only used about a 4th of the gallon. Make sure to tape off since i didn't and had to stop to do the taping. well worth prep work. This was my first time doing any painting or a DIY project. I was happy with the results. This item was a buy on line only. The stores don't offer too many options. I plan on doing the counters next, not sure what i will be using to give them a granite look....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Cabinet/Trim Paint You Can Buy! This paint is excellent. I applied it with the Wagner Power Sprayer and it has a beautiful finish that looks like it was done at the cabinet factory. First, I lightly sanded everything, then I applied the paint. After the first coat, make sure you wait 24 hours so that it will act as its own primer. After that, I did 2 more coats which went really fast with the sprayer. (I used a foam roller on the door frames to avoid hours of taping things off, and you can't tell the difference). The paint is self-levelling so there are no brush marks or patterns from the sprayer. I painted some of the cabinets last year, and now I am changing the upper cabinets to glass fronts so I'm painting those now. Everything matches and the ones I painted last year are holding up well.

I lightly sanded them first and as they were white, I did not prime. This paint is awesome! It is not thick and needs to self level. I used a foam roller, put it on and then go back after 5 mins to gently roll in long (with grain) strokes. It levels really well on flat cabinets (taken off) I did 2 coats and a few third touch ups. Once cured for a day , its a hard smooth finish. When you wipe off spills, comes off clean with no stains. best cabinet paint i have used.
