Questions & Answers

I’m wanting to put this in my sons bedroom. Want it mounted so he can’t touch it but the room is carpeted. Is that ok?

Want to be sure it’s safe in a carpeted room unlike floor heaters.
Asked by: Kayla142013
The manufacturer recommends mounting the unit so that the bottom is about two feet above the floor. The outside (face plate) of the unit does not get very hot at all (at least when powered on the 120v setting. There is no problem if the floor has carpeting. Your son may be able to reach the controls, however, which would only be about 26" above the floor. You can probably mount it a little higher than 24", but if it is too high on the wall you will not get good air circulation to heat the room properly. The heater cannot be mounted in the floor or in the ceiling.

Is this unit safe to use in a workshop that will have wood dust in the air?

Asked by: Larry
Nope. One of the biggest problems with any fan forced heater is maintenance. They need to be cleaned at least once a year, depending on usage. In a dirty environment, this unit would have to be cleaned every day. Any electric fan forced could overheat and cause you to have a really bad day if they get plugged. Use an infrared type heater or something with a filter you can clean periodically. Even baseboard heaters need to be vacuumed every once in awhile. Dust bunnies love baseboards.

Customer Reviews

EnergyPlus 1600-Watt 120/240-Volt In-Wall Electric Wall Heater in White is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 145.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not Your Typical Heater I was sold before I opened the box and here's why: 1. Made in the USA 2. 5 year warranty. 3. The box was heavy. The heater is very well constructed and can be used either 120 or 240 volts. I installed it in our bathroom that has a lot of ceramic and gets pretty cool in the winter. Keeping in mind that we are in the south and haven't had a lot of cold weather to use it so far so good. On the cold mornings I turn it on and it warms the room up nicely. The heater has a digital thermostat that keeps room temperature nice and even. It also has a night or away switch that you can program the temperature on. Pressing the button toggles the night mode on or off. A switch for fan only that has 3 speeds is also nice when you have the shower on. The smart temperature controller doesn't just cycle the heater on and off to control temperature. It varies the power output as needed keeping a constant temperature in the room. This thing is full of very nice features and I would highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than I Expected The box is heavy for its size. In this day and age of skimping and shaving as much off as possible, that is a good thing. This is really a very simple install for anyone that is comfortable with simple home wiring. The device has a grounded wall box, then just two conductors to attach power (see photos). The toughest part is cutting the wall hole and getting wire from your power source. In 110V mode it is 1000W, so power requirement is around 8.5 Amps. I replaced the default outlet box with a deep box to join wiring up to the heater. This is a great addition to our recently closed porch. It generates enough heat to keep it comfortable. The only thing I would like better is a complete off mode. You can turn off the heat and fan, but it will still power the control circuitry, when not being used for the warm months. The fan is fairly quiet in operation and a great addition to the room. We might have to get another for the office.

Good at keeping the room at a steady desired temperature. Installed two of these. One of them had poor screw alignment for the pre-drilled holes, which I had to fuss with. The other unit was better in this regard. Also did not like that the metal encasement box is not square (has camber like a trapezoidal shape), so when attaching to a wall stud it does not install square. Had to install spacers as shims to get it back to square. I don't know, maybe I misunderstood the intent of the design, but I knocked off one star for this reason. Otherwise, it works as advertised and I'm happy with the purchase so far. Longevity would be my next concern.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Back up heat This is a great supplemental heat source for an average sized room or larger bathroom. It is quiet and has many energy saving features that will help you save money. I installed the Cadet Energy Plus unit in a wall in my master bedroom 15'X15'. I heat my home with a wood burning stove. There are times when I forget to fill it up with wood before going to bed. This unit is a fail safe for heat in my bedroom. The install was for the most part painless. It took me about an hour to do. I tapped into a 120V outlet. Then ran my wire behind the wall to the unit. It's up on the wall at three foot high. You will have to cut an eight inch by ten in whole in the wall next too a stud. The box the Cadet heater fits inside of will contain the heater. This makes the unit safe and adds to it's seemless apperance. I can tell you it will keep you warm on those cold nights. I would not use it for a main heat source. For a back up or too supplement your needs it's perfect.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great in-wall heater for a bathroom This heater lived up to the information in its description and specifications. It was easy to install and shouldn't be a problem for anyone with moderate DIY experience. I like the LCD display and the simple operation. I like the fact that the heat is proportional to the difference between the set point and the current temperature in the room. I added this to the master bath as the final piece of a remodel. I had already added a separate circuit for the radiant floor heat and connected this to that circuit. The floor heat is 300 watts and this heater is 1000 watts when connected to a 120 volt circuit. After reading all of the documentation I was impressed that this unit will detect when is isn't configured correctly (120 vs 220) for the power supplied to it. It supplies the right amount of heat and is very quiet. After turning it off the fan continues to run until it cools off. All in all I'm very happy with it.

Found they are very sensitive to common dust, and as a result, they stay operating and do not shut off. This costs a lot of money on my electric bill. Cleaning only lasts for a week or so, then it happens again. I do not recommend these smart heaters due to their dust sensitivity, and not shutting off.

It could be colder than the rest of the home we needed to keep the clients warm. We used a space heater for a while, but it did not look professional. We choose this heater since it looked nice and provided enough warmth.

Our water pipes freeze when it dips into the single digits. This will help keep the room at a 50 degree temp to solve the problem. It was fairly easy to install and seems to be doing the trick.
