Questions & Answers

We have a heater similar to this in our kitchen, but it is very noisy when running. Is this one quiet?

We have an open kitchen/dining/family room area and must speak up when conversing if our heater is running. It is an older model, installed in 1998-99, so maybe there's been improvement in the technology since then? Thank you for your help!
Asked by: CoolMomma
Yes, this one is quieter than the one I had in before replacing it with this model.

Can I install a thermostat on the face of the UC102B, 240V model? It doesn't come with one and has no instructions for installing and wiring one. It only describes use with a wall mount thermostat.
Asked by: Tony
Yes you can, when ordering select the mode with the built in thermostat.

Perfectoe 1,000-Watt 240-Volt Fan-Forced Under-Cabinet Electric Heater in Black is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 36.

Very loud, noise level is much worse on level below the installation level (basement in my case). Otherwise unit seems fine. I expect that the noise is due to design and lack of vibration isolation. Sounds level about that of a hair dryer, this is much louder than the unit that it replaced which did not have a squirrel cage fan. I expected the squirrel cage fan design to be either quieter or at least no louder than the rotary conventional fan ... wrong. Heat output is mediocre, hard to believe the output is 1000 watts, but no way to test. By subjective comparison it is far short of the 1200 watt unit it replaced for heat output.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect for the bathroom. The contractor installed this in our bathroom and it's perfect. takes very little space, very quiet and heats the bathroom quite nicely. It also requires very little room to install.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice unit, just a little short of perfection The unit was very simple to wire and install. It works fine and is extremely quiet. Because its designed to fit on a toeboard, the unit is both narrow and short. The cover plate is the same height as the hole that you need to cut... so you need to cut your hole precisely the correct height for slide the unit in, or you will see a gap above and/or below the unit. Make sure you use a template to cut the rectangle out. It would have been nice if the installation instructions included a cutting template. If you make one yourself (like I did) consider that the heater has a top that screws onto the body - and you'll need to make the cutout a little wider to leave room for those screws to slide into the hole. I installed my unit under a kitchen sink which had a support under the middle of the cabinet that runs from the toeboard back to the wall. This isn't something that you can see. I had to position the heater under the right side of my cabinet. My point is - make sure you know what is behind your toeboard before you start cutting the mounting hole. The unit mounts to the toeboard with two screws. The back end of the heater is hanging in mid air. While this seems adequate, it would have been nice for them to include something to hold up the back of the unit so that it doesn't hang from the front screws and sag. Nevertheless, a template and spacer are nice-to-haves and don't take away from the quality, quietness, and effectiveness of the heater. Seems a tad pricey.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works better than the ealier model This was purchased to replace the same heater that wore out. That earlier model under cabinet heater was louder than the the standard in-wall heater, and the screws would become loose and it would vibrate noisily. So far the replacement heater is working much more smoothly and quietly.

The install for this was easy as I was replacing an existing unit which was recalled back around 2000. One of those fun things you realize after taking ownership of a home where recalls weren't taken care of! It is somewhat noisy, just make sure the face place isn't to tight or you might get a metal-vibrating sound from it touching the body of the unit. It's as good as I can ask for out of such a compact unit that fits under the cabinet in the kitchen!
