HOW MANY OF THESE HEATERS CAN BE INSTALLED ON ONE 240 VOLT CIRCUIT

Asked by: TONYD
Sorry, customer support person, you are referencing the wrong section of the NEC. You are mistaking 210.23(A) and (B) where you should be referencing 210.20 (A). 210.20 states "Where a branch circuit supplies continuous loads or any combination of continuous and non-continuous loads, the rating of the overcurrent device, or circuit breaker if you will, shall not be less than the non-continuous load plus 125% of the continuous load." So as long as these heaters don't run for more then 3 hours at a time non-stop, making it a continuous load, they are non-continuous and you could hook up 4 of these heaters on a single 30 amp 2 pole circuit, because their total ampacity is still only 25 amps or 3 heaters on a 20 amp circuit at 18.75 amps. The only time you have to use the 80% rule is for a single receptacle. Typical duplex receptacles null and void the 80% rule as well. In short you can have 4 of these heaters on a 30 amp circuit or 3 heaters on a 20 amp circuit.

can this heater stand on its own and does it have a thermostat/

It either needs an independent thermostat or one can be bought that attaches directly to the heater.

SoftHeat 83 in. 1,500-Watt 240-Volt Hydronic Electric Baseboard Heater Left Hand Wire White is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Impressive product so far This is our fourth SoftHeat Hydronic purchase . Three have been installed in our finished basement and this last one in the dining room. Well packaged for shipping and no damage on any of them. Very easy to install as a DIY and they look good. Note that on existing installations you might have to reinstall baseboard mouldings as the sizes are a little bigger than conventional baseboard heaters. They work great with our existing electronic thermostats. They do take a little longer to heat up but are totally noiseless and I believe provides a more uniform heat than our old (10 years old) baseboard heaters. Not sure why Home Depot don't stock these in their stores.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from My recent purchase of the EBHN1500W 240 volt heater replaced... My recent purchase of the EBHN1500W 240 volt heater replaced a 16 year old EBH1500W 240 volt ENTERTHERM heater. The new heater is no way near being efficient as the 16 year old one. Thermostat has to be set much higher to achieve the same level of heat as the old one and this means it uses more electricity. I am not happy at all with it.

It arrived in great shape, looks good, seems strong and reliable and probably is delivering all of the heat it’s designed for. Unfortunately, my expectation was that it could replace a conventional unit of the same length. It can’t.
