Is this visible for outdoor use?

Yes, I have used it outdoor many times. It works best when using a light colored target though.

Does it calculate the distance in Square feet?

Asked by CQ November 8, 2017

Answers

No, you have to do the square foot calculations from the length and width off of this tool. I will say it is very accurate though. I've gotten within a couple of square feet of a perfect measurement for most of my projects.

Will it measure from the ground straight up. I am a track official and am looking to use it to me...

Yes if you can get the beam zeroed in on the pole. If outside you might not be able to zero in on it.

VERY ACCURATE
I CHECKED 6 FT DISTANCE AND WAS VERY ACCURATE, AT LEASE WITH IN 8 INCHES AS THE MANUAL SAID IT WOULD BE. WHAT EVER MEASUREMENT YOU WANT TO GET, YOU MUST TURN ON THE LASER UNIT, THEN TAP THE- ON- BUTTON TILL ACTIVE LASER ICON FLASHES, YOUR READY TO GO. TO GET AREA OF WALL IS FAST AND EASY, IT WELL SHOW THE TOTAL AREA AFTER YOU HAVE THE LENGTH AND WIDTH READING OF A WALL. THE DIRECTIONS ARE EASY TO READ. THIS UNIT IS VERY GOOD FOR FAST ROUGH ESTIMATES. I TRIED IT AT NIGHT AND MEASURED 71 FEET IT WAS THE RIGHT DISTANCE. I THEN MEASURED IN THE DAYTIME A LITTLE LONGER DISTANCE AND MEASURED 87.6 3/4 AGAIN THE RIGHT MEASUREMENT.

Super accurate and so easy to use
The Laser Dimension Master 130 is a great addition to the tool box. If you do a lot of room or opening (windows, doors, etc.) measuring, this product will not only make your measuring much faster but also much easier to perform. The product has four buttons and a great color display. One button for on/laser/measure; one for mode/recall; one for measure reference (tip/butt)/units (Feet-Inch-Fractions/Decimal Feet/Inches/Meters); and one for clearing measurements/turning off the device. The key to this device is the ability for the laser to reflect off a surface (the whiter the better) up to 130 feet away. As a result this device cannot entirely replace a tape measure (think measuring a board, there is no surface to bounce off at the end of the board unless you attach something to the end the laser can hit). However, for measuring rooms, etc. this is a great tool. Simply put the tip or butt at the edge of a wall and set the appropriate mode then press the power button to turn on the laser. Once you see the laser dot and are confident it is measuring to the right surface, press the power button again and the measurement is taken. If you want to take an area measurement, you set the area mode then perform measurement of the X direction then the measurement of the Y direction and it shows both measurements plus the calculated area on the screen. A similar process is performed for volume by setting the mode and adding the Z measurement. It even keeps the last 10 measurements you made in memory for easy recall. The display is easy to read. It includes two measurements, calculation, battery status and mode indicator. I found the product to be very accurate and easy to use.

Great Measurement Tool
The Laser Dimension Master 130 ft. Laser Measure is a good substitute for a tape measure in many applications. Instead of a tape, it uses an infrared laser beam and a visible red laser to help you aim at your measurement target. Just like a tape measure, you can measure from either the front or back of the instrument. This thing is easy to use. You can quickly learn how to use the 10 measurement memory, get length, area and volume measurements from one page of simple instructions. I compared the accuracy to a tape measure on lengths up to 20 ft. Had no problem coming within 1/8” accuracy. Don’t expect the display to be as clear as a smart phone, but it does the job. It’s bright enough to see outdoors. I tried the Laser Measure for a couple of jobs: Outdoors, I measured for a mulch order. Accurate as the tape measure. Was able to measure distances to stucco walls with no problem. I couldn’t see the red dot, but took my best aim and it worked. I did an indoor measurement to estimate paint for my living room. Much faster than a tape measure, especially when I had to measure the height of a 17 ft ceiling. That kind of vertical can make a tape measure flop all over. Not a problem with a laser! The Laser Measure box also contains the AAA batteries and a carrying case. Carrying case features a Velcro closure and a Velcro belt loop.

An easier way to take measurements
Calculated Industries' Laser Dimension Master 130 ft. Laser Measure with Color Display is a different way to measure distances instead of using a tape measure. I can see where it would be handy for contractors and DIYers who do a lot of measuring. Its really a reliable one hand operation device. If you are measuring areas with obstacles like furniture in a room the laser light goes right over them and you don't have to fight with a tape to lie flat. Just put it at the start point, indicate whether the measurement is from the front or back of the unit and shoot a line to the opposite wall. I found the display easy to read, the laser light bright and was easily able to point it accurately. The device has four buttons, but once its setup you only use two. Use One to turn it on and mark the distance and another to shut it off. The other two are to set defaults. It measures the distance down to a fraction of an inch. It also stores several readings and will do a square foot or cube calculations for you on the display. Its really easy anyone can quickly pick it up. Its small, light weight, a little over four inches long. Just put it in your toolbox or carry along on your tool belt. It comes with a case that has a Velcro belt loop and a lanyard. I carried a 30 foot tape measure on my belt and this thing measures to 130 feet and weights like nothing on my belt. Forgot I was wearing it its so light.

Laser Precision in a Clever Compact Package
When laser measures were first introduced years ago I had friends in real estate sales that bought and used them. They praised them highly. Then, without notice, they were using tape measures again and not keen to talk about the laser measures. Eventually I learnt that the tools proved to be inconsistent and caused several incidents on claimed and actual sizes. I obtained this laser measuring device because I was tempted by the area and volume functions but I was also a bit skeptical because of my earlier experience. To test the tool I pointed it at a wall at the side of my workbench. This is in an unfinished basement and the insulated walls are covered in heavy plastic sheet. Eight or ten times I tried to get a reading but no luck. The instructions do say that strongly reflecting and very dark surfaces can affect the ability to obtain a reading. The recommended solution is to use a piece of white paper as a target and when I taped a piece of paper to the wall I got a reading straight away. The distance from the far end of the workbench to the wall was measured with a tape measure at 76 ½” and that is exactly what the laser measure calculated – see photos. The display is large enough to read easily and the tool bleeps when a measurement is obtained. The memory can store up to ten measurements and the compact screen is large enough to display the last three. Measurements can be obtained in inches, feet and inches, decimal feet and meters. The tool was used on both long (up to 70’) and short distances (see video) and worked very well inside. Outside in strong sunlight it struggled a bit and needed to be held very still to get a reading from a paper target. I would like to see a tripod bush fitted so I could attach the measure to a steady support. It is handy to have the paper target to hand as well. The error code section of the instruction sheet provides all the reasons why the tool may have difficulty obtaining a measurement. Using the area and volume functions is easy and the results were accurate. The measure needs two AAA batteries and the manufacturer claims this is enough power for 3,000 uses. In use the tool is secured with a wrist strap and it packs away into a heavy duty pouch that fits on the belt. I will check the accuracy of this tool from time to time but have no reservation in recommending that it is worth strong consideration if you are in the market for a fast, accurate and consistent laser measure.

MEASURE UP TO 130 FEET ACCURATELY AND INEXPENSIVELY
The Dimension Master 130 is a relative newcomer to the laser measuring device line. It has been refined from the ones available even just a few years ago. The biggest change is the price. The features this one has would have cost at least twice as much a year ago. The other great improvement is the simplicity. It's real easy to use. As noted by the name, it reaches out 130 feet accurately (within 1/8" at that distance). No mechanical device or tape could be that accurate even if you had all day to set it up. This device does it instantly. The buttons and screen are very easy to read and understand. It will take only a few minutes of following the instructions to master all of the features available. It holds 10 previous measurements in memory. It can quickly determine square footage (area) and cubic footage (volume). It is much faster and easier than tapes or wheels. You can switch from feet/inches, to decimal feet, to metric (and more), with the push of a button. It only takes one person to use. It makes measuring difficult spaces much easier. It's very light (2.5 oz.). It also comes with batteries and a rugged carrying case. This devise allows you to take incredibly accurate measurements instantly, easily, and inexpensively. When your done, just throw it in the tool box, slip it in your pocket, put it on your belt, or drop it in your purse.

Very easy to use. Can be used one handed. However the manual told NOTHING about the functions. I still don't know how to switch on Metric readings.... The laser is much too dim for outdoor use unless you are in shade. And even then the range and visibility is drastically reduced. I do like the large color display which is easy to read. And the function which allows measurement from the back of the unit. No need to subtract the length of the tape measure that way! I'd say this is good value for the money and easy to use.
