Good with some odd design elements.
I’ve only had it for a day, so I can’t comment on its long term durability, but it seems to be well made. I’ve not found any leaks and everything seems to be working as advertised. Something I found rather odd; the safety/pressure/air relief valve that you are supposed to use to empty the tank is placed in a way that makes it inaccessible (see attached photos). It’s positioned so that it points directly under the motor with no way to access it without using a tool, such as a screwdriver - and even that is questionable.
I attached a ziptie to the ring on the valve which extends under the motor, out through the rear of the unit, making it much easier to activate the valve (see photo). These kind of obviously bad design elements makes you question the overall quality of the product. Time will tell.
I implemented another great idea shared by another reviewer and picked up these 3 wheel dolly wheels to place under each leg to make the unit portable - they make a world of difference as this thing is heavy. Home Depot sells them.

Quality Machine, Best for Stationary Use
In addition to OUTSTANDING noise control, based upon my preliminary use of this compressor to power a variety of pneumatic nailing guns and inflating car tires, I believe this is an above-average compressor for its size. In terms of noise, this unit is quiet for a compressor of ANY size – a terrific benefit if you are confined to working near the unit. I have other compressors, both larger and smaller in size, and they all make such a loud racket that I try to place them away from my work area. That isn’t necessary when using this unit.
A couple of other things I like:
1. The gauges are large and legible (see picture), and the PSI adjustment knobs are easy to reach and set.
2. The tank drain valve (see picture) is easy to operate with a twist, and it seems like it will not be prone to rust or getting frozen in a closed position.
Unfortunately, there are a few things about this unit that are not as appealing:
1. At 55 lbs (nearly twice the weight of some competing units), it’s fairly heavy for a 6 gallon model, and the placement of the carry handle at the middle of the unit (see picture) adds to the difficulty of moving the unit, as it bears against your leg. Unless you’re a very fit person, you’re probably not going to want to move this compressor by hand very often or very far. A hand-truck or small dolly situated under the base will be needed in order to make it truly portable, which leads to a concern about the potential damage that could be suffered while moving the unit, particularly the tank, and/or the delicate switches and gauges that are all exposed. It seems that the unit design would have been better served by incorporating some type of “roll cage” into the handle design to protect these delicate components. However, if you’re looking for a small stationary compressor, the small footprint of this compressor would make it a very good candidate.
2. Only a single air coupler connection is supplied (see picture), so although it is probably capable of supporting the simultaneous use of at least two pneumatic tools (depending upon what they are and how hard you use them), you would need to add a coupler-splitter to do that.
3. I thought that the user’s manual was written in a peculiar way – more like a primer on air compressors for a high school student, than as a useful guide to using the product. There is a section showing an illustration of the compressor, and definitions (such as Volts, Amps, etc) which might be interesting I suppose, but yet there is no indication of the location of the on/off switch. Really? I’m no novice to using compressors, but I was puzzled as to the location of that switch, not knowing if the red “lever” I was looking at was a power reset switch, a pressure switch, a safety valve, or the on/off switch – there was no marking anywhere. A user with a manual in hand, shouldn’t have to resort to trial and error to figure out a basic function.
4. The manufacturer points out the need to minimize the use of extension cords to prevent a potentially harmful power reduction to the motor. The unit is supplied with a 6’ power cord, which I think should be a little longer (at least by 2’), to assist users to meet this limitation.
5. The manufacturer touts that this compressor has a life of 4 times the life of a “standard” compressor, yet the one-year warranty is similar to most other standard compressors, and there are some competitive brands that offer a longer warranty period. The length of the warranty speaks volumes about the manufacturer’s confidence in their product, particularly products of this kind that endure some heavy, constant use. Based upon my familiarity with the CH brand, I’m quite comfortable with the general reliability of their products, which is very good in my experience – but if they boast of the longer life expectancy, why don’t they offer a longer warranty period to support this?
Overall, this is a good product but due to its weight, I would restrict my purchase recommendation, to those folks who will use it mostly as a stationary compressor, rather than a portable one. The outstanding noise control would make it a valuable addition to a home shop or automotive work area. You would actually be able to listen to the radio while working!
An excellent air compressor for home or on the job use.
This is an excellent heavy-duty air compressor suitable for both home and job site use. The unit is very quire when running. The operating instructions are well-written and easy to follow. The only thing the manual does not explain is the location of the ON/OFF switch. It took me about five minutes of searching the unit to find it. The switch is labeled but in black on a black background. For years I have been using a small 2 gallon compressor that was easy to carry around but would only last a few years before wearing out. It also had a very limited compressed air capacity. This unit has a 6 gallon tank allowing me more use before the compressor restarts. This Campbell Hausfeld compressor is heavy weighting in at about 55 pounds. In the past I would carry my small 2-gallon compressor to wherever I needed it. To make this compressor more mobile I placed a 3-wheel dolly caster under each foot. Now I can readily roll the unit to any point in my garage or work shop without too much effort. In addition, I now can keep my pneumatic hose length short and not have to invest in 30 plus feet or more. It would be helpful if Campbell Hausfeld sold the unit with casters attached to its three feet. This unit is very-well built and should provide many years of service; well-done Campbell Hausfeld.
Air Compressors come in many styles and sizes. Pancake compressors are well suited for smaller tasks such as nail guns and inflating tires. Oil-Less Compressors are more convenient, but the tradeoff has always been the loud, annoying noise. The new Campbell Hausfeld 6 Gallon Pancake (Oil-Less) Quit Compressor provides the convenience of an oil-less design with half the noise. The noise reduction is very apparent when performing side-by-side comparisons with an older style oil-less air compressors.
Performance wise, the new Campbell Hausfeld Quiet Air Compressor is more efficient than similar sized oil-less air compressors. It uses two cylinders running at 1750 rpm and produces 1 hp with a current draw of only 7 amps. A similar traditional oil-less air compressor operates at over 3600 rpm, and produces only 0.8 hp with a current draw of 8.2 amps. The dual pistons and lower motor speed results in half the noise and approximately four times the lifespan compared to traditional oil-less air compressors.
On the negative side, this small air compressor is quite heavy (62 lbs) and does not include wheels. I use a dolly for transporting it more than a short distance. Recommended for anyone needing a small air compressor and has a strong back.
My dad was a contractor and always had at least one compressor on every job and nobody could talk over any of them. My husband has a really big air compressor in the shop which is also really loud and takes forever to fill up, then he uses it for two seconds, and then the air is drained. All of that to blow the sawdust off of one little thing. I have a better compressor than both of them because it fills up quick, we can talk while we stand right next to it, and it's small enough that I can pack it around if I'm feeling semi-tough for a girl. Mind you, this isn't a girly compressor because it packs 125# of pressure, but it outshines the boys by far (even my husband says so). The instructions are good and easy to follow and it requires almost no maintenance. The only assembly was screwing the air filter (which is included of course) and attaching a hose (which is not included). I scored on this one!
This compressor is a great addition to any workshop or garage. It's compact, quiet, and easy to use. The gauges are nice and big so they're easy to use and it packs plenty of power to take care of most if not all household tasks. This is my first compressor and the included manual does a great job of explaining how to properly use this tool. I'd highly recommend this to anyone who wants to expand into air compressed tools, it's a great way to get started
I grew up always having a compressor in the garage and I’ve since wanted one for myself. We don’t have a ton of tools to use it with, we mostly just use it for filling tires, tubes, and to run our air nailer when doing trim work in the house. For that reason, its size is perfect. It easily tucks away under a work bench in the garage and is portable enough to move around for different jobs without breaking your back. Previous compressors I’ve used sound like jackhammers but this one is reasonably quiet—especially since whatever room I’m working in amplifies the sound.
I can’t speak to using larger tools, like framing nailers and such, but for doing trim and miscellaneous smaller jobs it is perfect!
You’ll need need to pick up some attachments, quick connectors, etc. to get full use of it right away. It’s a great addition to the garage.
I can go and rob a bank with this compressor on!!! Super quit !!!!
Can’t stop , won’t stop, work hard , don’t chase girls focus on your self! This compressor is a BEAST !!!!
