Does this match the color and thickness of the Lifeproof Choice Oak flooring?

Asked by Matt February 26, 2019

Answers

It matches perfectly. It is the exact same pattern used on the Lifeproof planks. Unlike the planks, plan to receive the same pattern offset laterally on the treads. You can further deviate the pattern by not always cutting the same side of the board. If you order an additional board a week or two later, you'll get a different pattern entirely. Don't ask me how I found out :)

Is this for 1 single step?!

i ordered 12 of these cap a treads in the choice oak finish and had them sent directly to my home this month ( July 2020 ) , you can order this product online without any problem, they were delivered within 5 days of being ordered.

can you install the cap a tread without installing the new riser?

Asked by sam November 19, 2020

Answer

Yes, but it depends on your stairs. You can try them and see how it looks without the riser. I did that and ended up going with the riser. It's more work, but looks much cleaner.

I don't have a technical answer, nor a vendor approved one, but I will say our Boston Terrier just barely navigates our cap-a-tread stairs at 4 yrs old. As she gets older I do have concerns about her ability to successfully navigate them. She kinda commits and just plows down haphazardly. She does pause on her way up from time to time, but more often then not, she plows right up them too. And it's far from quiet. We always know when the dog is on the stairs. I have considered running a one foot wide continuous thin rubber mat (1/16" to 1/8" of an inch) the distance of the stairs for her but haven't gotten around to it yet. My apologies for not giving you a better answer.

Why is the type 2 cap-a-tread not offered on the web site?

14 treads and 14 risers later I have completely transformed a carpeted stairwell in my home. The transition between the treads and matching LVL is seamless. Would have given 5 stars if the product offered more variations. It appears shipments are aligned to production runs. 13 of my 14 treads were the same pattern, but offset sufficiently so that with the right edge cuts it is hard for the untrained eye to notice it is the same. I ordered a 14th tread a couple weeks later and the pattern it came with was vastly different than the one included with the rest of the steps. I found this a little frustrating because its variation is sufficient to stand out from all the other treads. Ideally there should be more variations between production runs and shipments, the same pattern (offset as delivered) always used, or some options provided to the buyer regarding patterns to choose from. Overall, I am happy with this purchase. It took me (an average DIY'er) about 8 hours to individually measure, cut, and install the tread/riser system. A miter saw is critical. While your stairs may look straight they likely are not. On about 3/4 of my boards I had to do a 1/2 degree cut on the edge to ensure uniform placement. I also highly recommend usage of a finishing nail gun (I used 1 1/2" finishing nails) to secure the treads at the back of each step. 3 nails is all that is needed to ensure the tread remains secure as you work your way up the stair case. Make sure your nails are fully sunk and close enough to the existing riser so that the new riser covers them completely. Carbide tip finishing blades are also critical to a clean cut. Always cut with the finished portion of riser/tread at the outside tip of the blade.

Product is excellent the way they ship them is not excellent! If it wasn’t for the shipping I would give them a five star. Product is easy to work with and goes on easy. We did have to ship some back to be replaced because of the way their packaged.

this is the fastest and easiest way to update your stairs,we removed the carpet from our stairs and installed the Cap A Treads which was a big improvement. the completed project turned out beautiful and looks like expensive finished wood steps that match our flooring. we are very satisfied with this product and i would definitely recommend them. i installed 12 treads and risers in about 6 hours, just make sure you read and understand the instructions before you get started and you won't have any problems.

I bought these to match the LiftProof Choice Oak flooring as it is what was recommended for the stairs from Life Proof. The color matched nicely however my only complaint is that the Cap-A-Tread pieces are thicker than the flooring so this caused problems. They were easy to install and look great after troubleshooting the thickness problem.
